I am running windows 2k pro and I just recently did an online renewal for Mcafee anti virus. After I finished the online renewal and the upgrade was downloaded I was prompted to restart my computer. I did. Now my computer is in a continuous reboot loop. There is a screen that flashes an error message " physical memory dump" during the continuous reboot. I no longer have my windows 2k pro disk to do a restore

I had left my computer on logged in on Windows 7 and when i got back the computer was in a continuous boot sequence (starts to boot, then after about 4 seconds shuts down and then over and over again). I reset the power from the back and turned it back on and it started up but with a different boot screen (Dynamic Energy Saver Quad6 Screen lol) and not the "black" one that normally comes up. It happened again last night and I think it happens when I leave my computer logged on in Windows 7. The weird thing was that after I reset the power from the socket (which stopped the loop) and turned it back on, it had me still logged on as a user and everything was like it was before I had left (basically like hibernate, except that hibernate is disabled on my computer

Upon turning on my PC, the I get as far as the Windows icon showing the system booting up, then an hour glass, then back to a black screen as the computer automatically reboots and begins the cycle again. I've done some research online and found others have worked on this problem with check disk commands and safe mode start ups. The problem is, even when started in safe mode, it reboots. I am not able to get to a command prompt at this point to try anything!
The machine is an HP pavillion 513n running windows XP. XP came installed when this desktop was purchased new 2 years ago. This particular computer is not even used to access the internet so I have a hard time believing its virus related. I've checked that the power supply is secure and the fan seems to be operating as usual. The only change I made to any software or systems today was to add several legitimate fonts to the control panel.

I recently reinstalled win xp pro sp2 on my old desktop (dell optiplex GX1). The only problem (it's more of an annoyance than a problem) is that on the advanced tab of the Power Options Properties I do not get any power button options. In my previous installation I was getting those options and I had configured it so that pressing the power button for less than 4secs it would put the system in hybernation mode. Is anybody aware of any registry tweak that will enable the power button options? (I really wouldn't want to go through the installation all over again).

I am trying to help a friend with his computer and I love to learn stuff so this is still kind of fun... but it is getting old. When the computer is turned on we get the Window's splash page, then the compaq splash page, then a text screen with "Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking... etc" I have tried all the options, none of them work.I have used F10 to get into the system utilities to try to boot off the CD. I cannot find an option to make the CD boot first, only the option to enable of disable the different IDE devices. I have played with all those options and nothing works. I have even disconnected all the IDE devices except the CD drive and tried to get it to boot like that.

I got an old, free system from work with no manual, etc
1) I am curious if this board came with an onboard graphics system. Under device manager, I only show Viper V330 under display adaptors.
2) 2 separate 64 MB strips are installed and I did a barclay advisor profile. It shows that I have these two strips installed, but under 'my computer' it shows only 135,010 kb of RAM

very quick question here. I was recently updating one of my laptops with drivers and wmp11 and things of that sort. I guess I made the mistake of installing a version of SP3 that was not final and now it keeps rebooting. It goes past the Windows boot screen and restarts itself. It is very frustrating. I have tried safe mode - same deal. I have no tried the last know good configuration - failed. I am almost 95 percent sure it was the SP3. My question is, is there a way to do something like a system restore or maybe even uninstall Sp3. Of course I can not even get into Windows

After downloading the most recent firewall update to Mcafee personal firewall plus the computer kicked me out and rebooted. I contacted McAfee support and was - after numerous attempts - able to load their latest DAT file on the system and run a DOS scan which took 55 minutes. It found at least one trojan (the Multidropper .F trojan). I thought this would solve the problem. No. Went into SAFE MODE and was able to remove Personal Firewall. Rebooted the sytem. Bam! Once my desktop loaded, the computer rebooted again. McAfee's Security Center is still on my system, but the firewall has been uninstalled. The Computer is still rebooting continuously. Even SAFE mode takes forever to boot up. Before I take the computer into the local PC shop what can I do

Alright I have a problem. I removed a bunch of spyware from this computer which included Aurora, WinFixer, Surf Side Kick, and many others. What happened was after rebooting into WindowsI was prompted to re-activate Windows even though I hadn't changed out any hardware. I thought this was rather strange. I went ahead and did an overlay of the operating system. Upon doing the overlay I was prompted to activate Windows, so I did. Upon getting into Windows I found out another culprit which was giving me problems, it was a directory within Program Files. I went into safe mode and deleted the directory. After that I restarted Windows and it kept rebooting after the Windows splash screen.

I encountered a reboot loop due to backdoor.sdbot.ab or the viruses that come with it. I caqn't get into safe mode, I can't use the command prompt, can't use safe mode, I can't do anything basically. Everytime I boot up it goes to the windows 2000 screen then reboots to the beginning and keeps on doing it.

I had to store my PC for a couple of months due to some home renovation. Hooked it all back up yesterday, and it booted fine. Only thing out of the ordinary was a message "new hardware requires windows to restart". I figured it was my TV tuner, it's always been touchy after a complete power-down. I chose not to restart right then, and used the pc for an hour or so, then selected shut-down. It powered down, then re-booted on its own. No problem, the TV tuner causes this, I waited to get into Windows to turn the DVR function that I know causes this, but it refuses to boot! I get to the windows screen with the progress bar, and after about 15 seconds, the screen goes black and it reboots.

This is kind of a long one, so please bear with me. In the last week I've been getting a lot of pop ups (almost every time i clicked a link or visited a new site) which i never used to get before. Many of them were things saying my computer was at risk and i should download such and such software, but i didn't know if they were legit so i didn't do it.Then one morning a couple days ago i woke up with the computer running the windows loading page. It took me to the password screen, i entered my password and windows started. But then once all the programs had loaded, it flashed a blue screen error, too quick to read, and then went black. Then it started loading windows again and took me back the password screen. I logged on and the same thing kept happening over and over.I started it in Safe Mode and did a full scan with my virus protection software (Symantec). It found six threats and i deleted them all. Restarted the computer but the same thing happened. I tried the disk defragmenter in Safe Mode but that didn't work either.
Finally i changed the System Config Utility in Safe Mode to diagnostic which allowed me to open windows outside of Safe Mode, but not use any programs. So i went back to the system config and turned off all the programs that i could recognize as unnecessary (AIM, Kodak, winAmp, etc) and restarted. This time windows started fine and stayed up for awhile. Just to be on the safe side i disabled the automatic restart so that if it happened again i could write down the blue screen error. After about a half hour of working fine it went to the blue screen error again.

I have a gateway desktop with windows xp home and it is constantly going into a reboot loop. Within 15 to 20 seconds of the computers start up it reboots itself and if left on it will continuously go into a loop. I get no blue screen flash neither, which I've heard a lot of people get with this problem. I have taken out the RAM cards and placed them in one by one seeing if RAM was the problem. It worked the first time, but after having one card in the second time it went straight back to a loop. So I crossed out RAM, I then took out my hard drive to see if it was causing the problem. I took it over to a friends house and it worked perfectly on a different PC. So that was out! I then thought maybe it was the PSU not sitting right, but it seems to be sitting fine. I cleaned my fans out as well thinking maybe it was just a simple problem. There are a so many different things that can cause this If I am correct? I just haven't the slightest of idea how to test my MOBO nor do I want to even go close to even touching it. I've also heard that WINXP service pack 2 suppously could cause this but I've just heard this. After trying everything in my personal arsenal I just did a clean reinstall of WinXP Home and everything seem to be working perfectly fine. The PC stayed on for about 2 and half hours after I installed the Wireless card then I turned it off for the night, thinking everything was fine. So I woke up to turn it on and to my surprise, it went into a reboot loop.

decided to fix up one of my old computers...I am running an Asus A8n32-SLI deluxe and just my luck they have problems with sp3 install causing the reboot loop. Over the last few hours I have found out the following information:
The loop happens when I have my usb mouse plugged in, doesn't matter which spot and no other usb device causes. Have tried multiple types/brands of mice they all cause the loop. My flash drive also causes the loop but my keyboard does not.
When I reset the CMOS the loop did not occur until I sync'd my computers time, SP3 only

So I downloaded some Windows (XP SP2) updates as usual on my Dell Dimension C521 Desktop, and after being nagged every 10 minutes to restart the computer, I finally gave in. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair. I tried the Recovery Console as suggested, but it wouldn't let me past the Admin Password prompt. (And besides, Microsoft says not to do that on an OEM-installed operating system. )Soon, the error message disappeared and turned into a reboot loop, going endlessly back and forth between the Dell screen and the Windows screen. I tried a Repair Installation and it looked like it was working but it just added a new screen to the loop that says: "Setup is being restarted."

I had to a repair install of xp as I suffered some suspect sys file corruption after HW upgrade. Installation went fine but only came with SP1. Obtained SP2 and it bugs out with error message about 3/4 way through install (when doing cleanup) If I restart without removing sp2 XP will enter a reboot loop on presentation of desktop.Any ideas at interpreting below log files? Looks like I have some hotfix migration issues but don't know whether they're critical or not!

It used to, on my old computer, but now I have a new one, 250 GB 'split' into two drives of 125GB each, with Windows XP SP2 OEM Software.

Using XP Home, If I click on Start>Run after a reboot, the Run window opens normally. If I open any program and then click on Start>Run, nothing visible happens! Nothing. I have tried to correct this by right clicking and using: Properties>Customize>Advanced, but without success.Haven’t been able to fix this with Tweak UI or by using sfc. AVG has not found a virus.Observations:Switching to Classic View the link works normally every time.Clicking Start>Run and nothing happens, then looking in Task Manager gives the following information: under Applications, Run is shown as running right clicking this entry and selecting Go To Process shows the explorer.exe processRun opens every time by holding down the Windows Key and pressing R.

Picked up a computer from my parents the other night that has stopped working. When it is turned on it goes throught the normal process of recognising the BIOS, running some checks on processor, memory clock, primary master etc., but once these checks are done it jumps to the screen that says: We apologize for the inconveneince. Windows did not start successfully etc., and then asks me to select from
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with command prompt

Not sure what brought this on but today when I did a reboot to get reconnected to my network, the f8 boot option screen appeared. I selected 'normal' which failed ending back at the boot option screen. However, I can boot in safe mode (or safe with networking). I have tried eliminating things by using msconfig but I have not had any luck. One clue may be that while booting, the MS logo screen appears as normal for about 15 seconds and then I see a blue screen flash just for an instant. I have only managed to read the word 'detected' on it. System immedietly goes to blank screen and does a hdw boot. Boot never gets to the GUI interface. Is there some way to stop the system when an error is detected or a way to log errors? Am I correct in assuming that a hardware problem is not too likely if system runs in safe mode?
