I have 2 errors which are shutting down my pc several times a day. The only info' I have is that they are events 700 and 7023. After reading your answers to an earlier query on this subject, I tried to disable the reboot due to system failure option but with no success, it just ignored me.
View 1 RepliesWhen Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, ofter it will restart too fast for you to see the error message. You could check the error log in this case but that is too easy. We are going to disable auto restart on system failure.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
i am using xp pro with a Labtec wireless keyboard & mouse and the scroll wheel has broken in the mouse so i have bought a usb wireless mouse. The existing keyboard/mouse connects with a black square receiver box of which then has 2 leads so it can be plugged into the mouse & keyboard port at the rear of the pc.
I have plugged in the new usb wireless mouse ok but the system still works with the old broken mouse. In the mouse settings box both mice are listed but is it possible to dissable the broken mouse so the new mouse will work,there is no option to dissable the mouse on the screen like there is for the new usb wireless mouse. Failing that how can i uninstall the complete keyboard/mouse as the only listing in add/remove programs is the labtec wireless desktop of which is just somekind of add on software as with this removed the keyboard/mouse still works.
In my computer task manager ,gpedit.msc,regedit,folder option are disable.

It gets to the windows logo and crashes, a quick flash of a bluescreen which i can't see the error, and restarts. I also do not have the option to disable the restart so i can see this code too.I booted the windows recovery and at the DOS prompt i tried doing chckdsk, fixboot, fixmbr.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNot sure what brought this on but today when I did a reboot to get reconnected to my network, the f8 boot option screen appeared. I selected 'normal' which failed ending back at the boot option screen. However, I can boot in safe mode (or safe with networking). I have tried eliminating things by using msconfig but I have not had any luck. One clue may be that while booting, the MS logo screen appears as normal for about 15 seconds and then I see a blue screen flash just for an instant. I have only managed to read the word 'detected' on it. System immedietly goes to blank screen and does a hdw boot. Boot never gets to the GUI interface. Is there some way to stop the system when an error is detected or a way to log errors? Am I correct in assuming that a hardware problem is not too likely if system runs in safe mode?

If I restart the computer and go into the bios it does not show the hard drive but when I come out of the bios it then boots up.It will only bootup if I go into the bios first?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 hard disc system, Windows XP pro and most programmes run from the C Drive. A few, plus all my data run from the F drive. Over the last few days I have encountered a massive slowdown in getting the computer started - form certainly less than 5 minutes to over 20 minutes. I have not added anything to the autoruns at all.
Programmes and data (eg music) run fine if they are on the F drive, but if they are on the C drive they run incredibly slowly so music is fragmented and at times its like trying to wade through treacle to get anything done. I have been getting crashes of the PC with a message about a kernel problem... but haven't yet copied all the data from that to get the detail. When it crashes the next boot reports a disc boot system failure, when i reboot ahgain it loads up but painfully slowly. The C drive was defraggged just afew weeks ago. I'm thinking the drive is about to pack up....
I have become quite irritated by the various strange noises which happen at a "system event". I have found the dialogue box where additional events can be added to the sounds but I cannot see how to turn off the ones already there. I do not want to use "mute all" on the volume control as I frequently listen to music.
Any suggestions welcome.
While in that area of the screen, I want to remove some of the icons. The dialogue box is set to "always hide" the offending Icons but they are still showing.
Recently i had my computer wiped and now i have no sound i go to my drivers and i have ATI Function Driver for high definition Audio but it doesn't work at all because i have no sound i never had this until after the wipe i was using realtek AC'97. I have tried to get it back but when i downloaded it i got the error 10.I have a Windows XP Media Center Edition.Version 2002 Service pack 3.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS 410, running WinXP, has a problem (or at least an annoyance)which seems to be getting worse. Very often -- maybe even most of the time lately -- half or more of my system tray icons fail to appear, even though the programs are running. It's very inconsistent, sometimes it's fine, at worst only 2 or 3 of the expected dozen or so make it. And the whole startup program-loading is really bogging down.I know that it's software related of course, as all is fine when I boot up to my back-up WinXP OS on another partition. But *where* is the glitch? I scan constantly for viruses, trojans, spyware and all, and also keep the registry clean and def ragged.It would be great if any of you might have some ideas for things I should look for, as any day now I'm going to decide to just bite the bullet and do a clean re-install of Windows. Everything's backed up, of course, but it will take days to re-install all the programs and configure everything again.

Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hastento add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windowsinstalls however when i have finished windows will only boot up withthe CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but stillif no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and stops,put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.

I use Windows XP SP2. Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.

However, the second choice is also Window XP HomeEdition and if I take it it tells me there is a disk hardware error and it cannot boot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my System from P3 to P4, also added a new 120GB SATA Hard Drive which I kept as a Primary Master.I also attached my old 40GB IDE hard drive which is the secondary master. I had installed Windows XP Pro on the IDE HDD and now have installed the same O.S. on the new drive also. In my old system which also had two hard drives (both IDE drives) I used to get a boot option. But with the SATA + IDE combination the boot option has disappeared and it boots directly from the SATA Drive.
