I tried to boot my computer and after the HP logo i got a black screen that reads ;
"SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: Toshiba MK6025GAS-(PM)
1720 - S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive detects imminent failure (Failing Attr :05h)Please back up the contents of the hard drive and run HDD self test in F2 setup ress F1 to continue"
My computer won't boot...the master HD had a SMART failure. I've decided to replace my current master HD with a WD 80gig. I also have an identical WD 80gig slave on my system (which I do not want to reformat). Seems simple...however, My slave is the current c: drive. For some reason when i reformatted last time it automatically named my root drive g:...no idea. And to get my computer to recognize my ipod i needed a c: drive so i ended up changing my slave to that via a program in xp. Does anyone know if this will be a real problem when i go to format and partition the new drive? Will it show both HDs without assigned letters? Should I install, format, and setup xp on the new HD without a slave attached and then add the slave later?
My Laptop was working just fine last evening, and this am is now not booting successfully.Once powered off, when the on button is pressed, the following message appears."We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this. etc, etc."
When safe mode is pressed, a bunch of prompts run, and then it freezes. You must then shut off the PC and then restart to get back to the menu choices. Another message we see now is General help in the Bios. "Set up systems behavior by modifying the bios configuration. Selecting incorrect values may cause system boot failure; load setup default values to recover
a while ago my computer failed to boot repeatedly and I took it to the repair man who got it going but when I first switch it on I get the message invalide boot.ini file - booting from c and what has happened to create this problem and can I restore my PC to boot from the original file
I have a dwsktop vaio When I boot from cold it does not find hard drive. I get an error message Disk boot failure Insert system disk and press enter. If I restart the computer and go into the bios it does not show the hard drive but when I come out of the bios it then boots up.It will only bootup if I go into the bios first?
I have a 2 hard disc system, Windows XP pro and most programmes run from the C Drive. A few, plus all my data run from the F drive. Over the last few days I have encountered a massive slowdown in getting the computer started - form certainly less than 5 minutes to over 20 minutes. I have not added anything to the autoruns at all.
Programmes and data (eg music) run fine if they are on the F drive, but if they are on the C drive they run incredibly slowly so music is fragmented and at times its like trying to wade through treacle to get anything done. I have been getting crashes of the PC with a message about a kernel problem... but haven't yet copied all the data from that to get the detail. When it crashes the next boot reports a disc boot system failure, when i reboot ahgain it loads up but painfully slowly. The C drive was defraggged just afew weeks ago. I'm thinking the drive is about to pack up....
A clueless coworker of mine decided to take my administrative laptop and use it for something without asking my permission. The end result is a laptop that now requires a smart card to log in but won't proceed to PIN verification when a card is inserted. It is not connected to the domain that enabled the smart card policy, and I can't log in to attach it to that domain to remove the policy. I'm reminded of a program that can reset a windows password by rewriting the HD sector it resides on, is there something like this for group policies?
For some reason when I try to go to certain websites, i get a smart filter 403 forbidden error. I never installed any smart filter software on my computer? What could tbe problem be? My parents never installed anything on my computer. I'm confused. I cant find anything on add/remove programs
I CANNOT OPEN ''SMART RESTORE'' AS A MESSAGE COMES UP SAYING ....:THE SYSTEM FILE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR RUNNING MS DOS AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS APPLICATIONS, CHOOSE ''CLOSE'' TO TERMINATE THE APPLICATION I NEED TO REBOOT MY PC ,AS THERE IS A PROGRAM ON ''SMART RESTORE'' WHERE I CAN REBOOT IT!
Are there any disadvantages for having smart drive active. I have some concern about hard drive failure and would like as much of a head's up as possible.
As far as I know, I've always turned smart drive off in my bios. But I couldn't give you any good reason why?
I have been wanting to purchase a smart phone or a pda, so I may review, answer emails and check internet sites while I am out of my home office. I have been told that pda's are slow. My current carrier is Cingular, and I do like the Treo 650 and don't mind paying $350 but the monthly charges are horrendous $45 for an unlimited data connect this is beyond your monthly voice charge. I am looking for alternative and I am willing to change carrier but don't know who to go with for less expensive charges. With technology where its at, I thought I'd be able to be constantly on, a la Dick Tracy through my watch.
I have tried and tried through hp online help but no one has been able but to show me pages on how to use it. And uninstall and reinstall the program. But I cannot use it because no short cut at the top of the page.
I am so glad I found this site. Secondly I am not very ''computer smart"... ok..here's what is going on...hopefully I can explain clearly enough. My computer is a Dell.. I am operating Windows XP...I just had a new video card put in it..things don't seem right, as in my font is really small ( i have changed that under "apprearance and themes" and under "view" on my tool bar..but when I type regular it is so small and light..also when I open anything to do an email or a message at a group the body where the message goes is really small as well... especially if I go to an MSN Group. Before the body was larger and I could see everything I typed. Could this be a setting problem that I don't know about or could it be that the video card is not right. They had to order it and it took months to even get it back. I am so at a loss on what to do and aggravated at the same time.
My Dell XPS 410, running WinXP, has a problem (or at least an annoyance)which seems to be getting worse. Very often -- maybe even most of the time lately -- half or more of my system tray icons fail to appear, even though the programs are running. It's very inconsistent, sometimes it's fine, at worst only 2 or 3 of the expected dozen or so make it. And the whole startup program-loading is really bogging down.I know that it's software related of course, as all is fine when I boot up to my back-up WinXP OS on another partition. But *where* is the glitch? I scan constantly for viruses, trojans, spyware and all, and also keep the registry clean and def ragged. It would be great if any of you might have some ideas for things I should look for, as any day now I'm going to decide to just bite the bullet and do a clean re-install of Windows. Everything's backed up, of course, but it will take days to re-install all the programs and configure everything again.
I have (or, rather, had) an eMachines desktop running XP Home. I fried its motherboard but the HDD remained intact. I pulled it out and found another system running XP Pro (a Dell Precision desktop). However, simply swapping the HDDs to boot up from the eMachines' drive on the Dell did not work: it complained about hardware mismatch and I could not even start Windows in Safe mode. Is there any way to do this? What else do I need to do to get it to work?I am trying to avoid getting a new computer at this point, so getting the Dell to "be just like" my old eMachines would be ideal.

Using remote desktop to connect to my computer. It all works fine, but I have a problem with using my e-bank software. It uses smart cards for verification and all works when I am logged in locally, but when I try to use it from remote computer, it expects that the smart cards are on the remote pc, and doesn't see those that are already on the host. I tried to turn off the smart cards redirection in the group policy, but that didn't help.
Trying to get the Photosmart C6280 drivers to install for the past few days. Whether it's installing from the CD or downloaded drivers, I still get the same message. Right before it starts to install the drivers, it says that some files need to be deleted and that I have to restart. So, I restart, and the installer comes back up, only to tell me to restart again. I got past this when I ran the installer in safe mode, but I was unable to start the Print Spooler to continue the setup.
computer failed to reboot. I used a boot disk to get started. I then noticed that the system does not recognize the drives C (where my Windows XP OS is installed) or D drive which is a seperate physical drive for my data.
I have 2 errors which are shutting down my pc several times a day. The only info' I have is that they are events 700 and 7023. After reading your answers to an earlier query on this subject, I tried to disable the reboot due to system failure option but with no success, it just ignored me.
when I try to start up windows I get the screen with the windows xp logo and the bar thingy that runs through the box. It looks something like this picture I made in MS Paint. Yeah, well you get the idea. I'm thinking it could have damaged one of the system files, something similar happened to my uncle. He was shutting down his computer and he all of a sudden pulled the power and his computer went dead because it was the exact wrong time to pull the power.
When Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, ofter it will restart too fast for you to see the error message. You could check the error log in this case but that is too easy. We are going to disable auto restart on system failure.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
I used System Restore to restore my pc to a previous date. It restarted and updated, then when I turned on my pc it started up normally and went to the log-in screen. Except both the keyboard and mouse weren't functioning. I read some other forums and posts about this, but it seemed other people who had this problem were able to use the kb/mouse during safe mode. I can't use them in either normal nor safe mode, so I can't even log-in. I have a Dell desktop pc, any ideas on how to fix this?
I am using XP home and when I start my laptop the following message came up: STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

I followed the link from other threads to the microsoft site explaining repairing the registry using the installation disk. I got the computer from my brother in law and do not know where the installation disks are. Also it was factory installed and the microsoft instructions say they do not work with OEM software. Is there a way to fix this without the disk? If I find the disk Dell supplied will it work since it it was not a XP install disk?
After running a defragmentation, I received a message that 6 mb of system 32 did not defrag. the system ran, closed, then when booted up the next day I received the windows 32 error. I have an OEM windows xp installed in the computer, a pentium III gateway, and i understand that common recovery proceedures cannot be used with success, because the OEM versions have embedded passwords and such. I have not heard strange sounds from my hard drive, previous to , and subsiquent to the problem. I wish to run chkdsk,to see if this can resolve the problem, if the OEM version will allow it. Is this possible, and the fact that I have a D drive slaved to the c drive matter?
I went into BIOS and I found that my PC hard disk C & E are set as preimary disk both. Then the DVD-CD rom was set as escondary disk.So I try to make changes and when I start PC, Boot failure: System became Halted. What can I do? As a mtter of facts that why when I try to update WXP SP1 to SP2, the last one kick out disk E.
I am receiving the following error at startup: "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" There are no CD's in the CD drive. However, I ran the System Diagnostics and when it got to the Disk section - it is not recognizing the disk - it said Warning...and to check the cables. I have done that, and everything seems to be connected correctly.
i am trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine. it is not booting. i know that i could take the easy way out and format the HD, then reinstall windows. but i want to actually FIX IT, if you know what i mean. This is what happens.1. i press the power button on the laptop 2. the first screen that pops up is black with the words: SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: TOSHIBA MK4025GAS-(PM)Cannot_Find_Strin Cannot_Find_StringPress F1 to Continue3. when i press F1 it says that windows did not start sucessfully. it also gives me a choice to enter in Safte Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Config, or Start Windows Noramlly.
My son's computer has Windows 2000. It keeps starting over and over. It will only get to the Windows 2000 screen and then it restarts. It does this constantly. It won't even get to the desk top screen.
