My son's computer has Windows 2000. It keeps starting over and over. It will only get to the Windows 2000 screen and then it restarts. It does this constantly. It won't even get to the desk top screen.
The pc normally runs when i open for the first time and when i restart it shows "a disk read error press ctrl + alt +del to restart " at booting and when i do the same it shows me the same error again... i have to power off whole my system and then have to on it again... cannot restart.. please help ... and also i am not getting the dvd drive option shown at the selection of boot, means at 'to boot from where' ... instead it shows the cd drive which is not connected.
i Bought a new Motherboard, processor and power supply and then used the rest of what i already had and built the computer. i booted up and it starts goin through the P.O.S.T and gets to the bit where it say about DMI Pool Varifing (or something like that) and then says NTLDR is Missing Pres Cnrl, Alt, Del to Restart. iv tried booting from cd with windows in to reformat, but still says the same.
i have xp pro sp2 on a disc and when i try to install it, i get to the partition screen and it shows i have only one drive, with 2gb on it, in FAT format, which is my USB drive i have plugged in,then below it, it says theres an unknown disk in there, no drive is plugged in (or something like that). So, it wont let me reformat my main drive and install xp on it. I have vista x64 already on it and i wanna go back to XP. When i use my Vista install disk, it can find the disk and format it easily. So would it be possible to format it using the vista disk, then restart with xp disk in and boot from there?
All of a sudden, in the last couple of days, I find that I have to go through my Start>Turn off Computer > Restart twice in order for the computer to restart. Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.
I have 2 windows on my pc. Now i want to install some programs without restarting to the other win sys. how can i trick current win to think that i'm now actually at my c:windows & not e:windows (something to do worth system variables?).
I have (or, rather, had) an eMachines desktop running XP Home. I fried its motherboard but the HDD remained intact. I pulled it out and found another system running XP Pro (a Dell Precision desktop). However, simply swapping the HDDs to boot up from the eMachines' drive on the Dell did not work: it complained about hardware mismatch and I could not even start Windows in Safe mode. Is there any way to do this? What else do I need to do to get it to work?I am trying to avoid getting a new computer at this point, so getting the Dell to "be just like" my old eMachines would be ideal.

i am trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine. it is not booting. i know that i could take the easy way out and format the HD, then reinstall windows. but i want to actually FIX IT, if you know what i mean. This is what happens.1. i press the power button on the laptop 2. the first screen that pops up is black with the words: SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: TOSHIBA MK4025GAS-(PM)Cannot_Find_Strin Cannot_Find_StringPress F1 to Continue3. when i press F1 it says that windows did not start sucessfully. it also gives me a choice to enter in Safte Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Config, or Start Windows Noramlly.
I've been having a re-occurring PC problem that is driving me nuts! I'd appreciate it if someone could look over the following "error messages" that I get on my PC, perhaps diagnose the problem, and hopefully suggest solutions that I could try. For your reference: I use Windows XP Home Version - Service Patch 2 as my operating system. The PC is a Gateway 700XL that I purchased in February 2002: Intel Pentium IIII 2.2.GHz processor, Intel 850 chipset, & 400 Mhz front side bus. I keep my operating system updated as well as my Norton AntiVirus program. I have "intermediate" PC skills. Usually I help others, but not this time
I clean my computer with many programs and still doesn't turn off.here is my HJT.. I infected ??Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.Scan saved at 12:15:56 AM, on 5/5/2007 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16414)Running processes:C:WINDOWSSystem32smss.ex
Whenever I start up my computer, right after the windows xp display, my toshiba laptop gets the bsod and restarts, repeating the process over and over again. I can't go into safe mode or anything, it'll just do the same thing again. I've written the error code and it is 0x000000ED (0x84340E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) the problem is that i don't have my recovery disks or anything like that when i got it, but I do have this boot cd called ultimate boot cd which i got from timatebootcd.com, this will allow me to wipe out my hard drive but im just unsure if that will fix the problem.
At random times my win xp pro system either locks up or restarts by itself. It doesn't really matter what software is running. It then comes up with a System has recovered from a serious error message upon restart which invariably looks like this: C:DOCUME~1WINDOW~1LOCALS~ 1TempWER45c3.dir00Mini012605-01.dmp, C:DOCUME~1WINDOW~ 1LOCALS~1TempWER45c3.dir00 sysdata.xml.
Just starting having problems with my computer restarting on its own, figured out it was doing this because of an error, when i turned off the auto restart on system fail i got a message saying And it said it did a Physical Memory Dump.I have no idea what's going on plz help.
This afternoon i turned it on, it started booting up, then restarted, it then gave me 4 options, to boot up my computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, to boot up with my previous settings or to start windows normaly. Whatever option i pick, my computer will start to load and restart before it gets onto the windows logon screen. Ive tried turning it off and on again, using the restart button, everything i can think of but nothing seems to work.
I just did a fresh restore of Windows XP Media SP2 from manufacturers restore DVD, and downloaded all of the Hot Fixes and updates from Microsoft. Everything was fine for about a day, but now the system boots, I get to the black screen where it asks you if you want to start Normally or in Safe Mode, or last known configuration that worked. No mater what I choose, it just shuts off.
This is the reason I did the full system restore in the first place.I dont know if this is related, but when I hook up the hard drive to my laptop to scan for viruses and spyware (you never know), the hard drive keeps shutting on and off. But it doesnt do that when its hooked up to the tower in which it came from, so it might just be the device Im using
I am having problems booting my laptop, it is a HP Pavilion ze4111s laptop, installed with Windows XP Home edition. I have tried using all the system recovery disks that came with the laptop and tried rebooting from the cd-rom but nothing is working. It says eventually when it does something after test bios that HP EEPROM has been reinitialized and to resume or enter setup. when booting from cd-rom and pressing to resume, it says "wrong CD for this notebook".
I tried to boot my computer and after the HP logo i got a black screen that reads ;
"SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: Toshiba MK6025GAS-(PM)
1720 - S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive detects imminent failure (Failing Attr :05h)Please back up the contents of the hard drive and run HDD self test in F2 setup ress F1 to continue"
I had some failure and have recovered everything and upgraded to SP2.However, now after the POST as we go to load windows it tells me tohighlight which O/S I want to use.I always take the first (Windows XP Home Edition) and it boots andoperates fine. However, the second choice is also Window XP HomeEdition and if I take it it tells me there is a disk hardware error and it cannot boot.
After Booting XP I get the blue screen with this message C0000221 {Bad image checksum} The image msvcrt.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum
I have a Toshiba Satellite running MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002. I have been receiving the following error for quite some time now. I had emailed Microsoft couple of times to ask what else I could do to resolve this and they did not respond.Error after booting up:Windows cannot find C:WINDOWSsystem32,egsvr32.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then Search.
System was working fine last night when I went to go on it this evening it would not boot fully so I tried to boot it in safe mode and all the other modes avalible but it would not work. I pressed F10 to reset but that failed as well I am running windows xp it never came with a recovery disc when i first bought my computer.
Turning off my laptop and instead it restarted and froze. Will not boot in safe, last known config or anything. I can go into BIOS and debugging and such but will not boot up sys. Here is the last line it sticks at: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2) WINDOWSSystem32Drivers Mup.sys. I then tried PC Restore (nothing) have no recovery CD so tried to boot useing XP Home SP2 disk and got this STOP MESSAGE : ***STOP: 0X00000007E pci.sys address F85480BF base at F8541000, DATE STAMP 3b7d855c.
I have a Dell laptop and since today, when i turn the computer on, it goes past the dell screen, then goes to the screen where it says "We apologize for the inconvenience" then gives me options of safe mode, with networking, with command prompt, Last known good configuration, or start it normally. No matter which option i pick, it just comes beck to the same screen.
Friends computer, Windows XP Home. She's been having trouble with it restarting on her a bunch lately, but she was always able to at least get to the Desktop before it rebooted without any error message or countdown (like the 0:60 blaster countdown). When I was finally able to take a look at the computer, it won't even get to the windows loading screen. I'm thinking the HDD is dead or not able to boot from some reason. The drive will not boot. Gives a blue error message after the bios POST. Bios can check the drive and it fails. I tried putting a disc in which I 'thought' was a bootable PartitionMagic disc, but it's not booting to it. So I'll try using a bootable copy of Partition Magic and see what it is before we buy a new drive.
I'm not too knowledgeable about the technical side of computing, so please bear with me.I'm running Windows XP Professional (SP2) on an AMD Athlon XP 3200+. My grandson showed me a game called Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which I fell in love with and subsequently bought for my own computer. As I only had 'on board' graphics, the game obviously wouldn't run, so I bought an Nvidia 6200 graphics card.Following the instructions which came with it, I installed the card successfully. The only thing I couldn't do was disable the 'on board' graphics, but as my computer recognised the new card automatically, I went ahead and installed the driver. The new card didn't need an extra power source, as there was no connector on it. Incidentally, I did find the 'on board' graphics in the System > Properties list, but nothing happens when I click on it, so I assume I can't disable it.
Everything appeared to work well and I got the Roller Coaster game up and running beautifully. Some time later, after I had closed the game and gone on to other things, I needed to restart my computer, so I went through the usual restart sequence.Things went well at first but some way through the Windows XP loading screen, where the little blue bars scroll across, my computer simply switched off, totally! I tried again (obviously from a cold boot this time), but the same thing happened. To cut a long story short, I eventually removed the new card, and restored my system to a safe point, and it's now running perfectly again, although I can't play my game now.I'd be really grateful for any advice you can offer as to what the problem might be, as I want to build some more roller coasters!
For approx. the last 3 weeks, every night when I turn off my computer (XP Op. Sysy., service pack 2), it says that it is installing 1 of 1 updates. It seems to me that it is the same update but not getting fully installed and restarting each night.
Problem with my PC. It booting very slow-30 min and does not show any text and pictures. After completing booting it works fine. If I re-boot PC it booting normal in 30 sec. I did a lot of things but no result.
