Whenever i boot the system,it says scan C drive.even though i shut down it properly.
I recently did a virus scan on my cpu and deleted an important system function now i get a system error c0000218 (Registry File not found)
So i have the windows xp cd but my drive hasnt been readin anything lately ! it wont boot it at all. i dont know what to do. my drive isnt dead i dont think it still makes noise and opens and closes on command and it lights up still. i need to get my drive to work so i can fix my hard drive.
I am having trouble booting my windows xp laptop. I am in the bootcfg. I cannot get any further.Any bootcfg /rebuild command it states- Failed to scan......use chkdsk to detect errors.
It then displays volume appears ok
c:> bootcfg /rebuild brings me back to- bootcfg commands for boot configuration
After almost daily cleaning, my computer's C: drive fills up with little or no use; is now at "0 available bytes", so I can't even scan w/ AVG. During last scan, the available memory went from 300 mb to 0 in about forty minutes, and the program couldn't complete the scan. Can I sart in safe mode and resolve this, or other options.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI keep getting the error message "Windows No Disk". In the error box is the message "There is no disk in the Drive, Please insert a disk into the drive" No drive letter is specified. I've tried putting disks in every drive, & still get the message. I have to hit the "cancel" or "continue" key several times.I read a lot on this and have tried many things, but the error still comes back.I have scanned my computer in safe mode with AVG antivirus and antispyware. Nothing appears.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI went to use PerfectDisc yesterday, it suggested I do a bootup scan, I did, allowed it to do pagefile scan too. Ran fine. Then rebooted, went to do regular scan. it locked up on the Blue Screen of Death.
"Bad_Pool_Header" and gave some error info... 0x00000019, and so on.
Computer runs fine though otherwise, which is funny.
Then when I try to go to Registry Mechanic and scan, it goes all the way through, and on I believe the deepscan, it always goes to BSOD there. I think while it's in the HKEY section of current user.
There may be other programs that will cause the BSOD, but these 2 are the only ones so far. Please guide me through this....Anyone.
I have McAfee Managed Virus Scan. When I scan my computer or a folder it takes a very long time. How would I speed things up?

I use V-Com Fix It as my suite to handle system maintenance including antivirus protection. When I try to run a scan, it goes through memory scan fine and starts working on the actual files. At some point it chokes on a file and the system starts acting strangely. The icons in the taskbar either disappear or duplicate, but when I run the cursor over them they usually disappear. If I try to launch a program I'm given various error messages like it's a bad image or not a valid system 32 file. The only solution is to reboot and that can usually only be accomplished by hitting the reset button on the case. (After posting this message, I'm going to do it again and post more of the messages I get) My CounterSpy programs scans fine, with no suspicious problems. I got Karsperky's online virus scanner to run and it didn't find anything suspicious either.
I think the problem surfaced shortly after installing .NET Framework, but I'm not sure that's the problem. I've tried uninstalling .NET Framework, re-installing version 2.0, but the same problem occurs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Fix It. I've tried using MSCONFIG to do a diagnostic boot with no mandatory service running, but still had the problem. The problem has also happened on its own without the virus scanner running. The autofile scan was probably running in the background though. The PC had been sitting for a few hours.I REALLY don't want to do a complete reinstall of XP if I don't have to. So, I'm hoping somebody here can come up with some other stuff to try.I'm running XP SP2, Fix It 7, CounterSpy 2, Kerio Personal Firewall.
I just performed a full system scan on my computer using AVG Spyware. The process (doing nothing else and having no other programs running) took 35 minutes and scanned 245,000 + "objects". My question is simple, and may leave me looking foolish, but I have to ask...is it "normal" for a computer used by only 2 people for only 3 months to have that many "objects"?

View 14 Replies View RelatedAbout temporary internet files, I regularly delete them by going to tools>internet options>general>delete temp files, but I noticed that when I run either my virus scan or my adware scan, it scans the temporay internet files for close to 2 hours, how can there be so many if I regularly delete them? I noticed the files it scans for so long are .IE5. Searching through the net I read that by going to tools, not all files are deleted, namely some index.dat files, and that it's hard to get rid of them. I read about a program, Mil Shield, that deletes them but haven't tried it yet.My main problem is that whenever I scan my comp, it takes hours to scan because of the temp files. Can anyone advise on how to solve this issue? Is it good to delete index.dat files or would that cause problems?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use windows (home) XP system with SP2.Run an anti virus program (Avast 4.6) about two-three times a month. Use to take about 140 min looking through 304000 files. Ran it today, took 270 min (41/2hrs) and looked through 515140 files. It has been upgraded several times since I last ran it, however for something to take 41/2 hours seems a bit long. Just a home PC, not that many songs or data on it.
View 7 Replies View Relatedit now wont go past the windows loading screen. I have tried to boot from his windows xp disc (to perform a repair) via changing the boot order in the bios but it wont do it. I even set all the boot orders to go from the cd and still nothing. I have tried multiple xp discs to no avail. If I get into safe mode the drive seems to be working fine. Windows recognizes the drive and that a disc is in there.

The weird thing is the Start Menu folders and their contents are in tact.Initially I thought I accidentally deleted them so I manually created a few shortcuts back to some of programs, but after restarting Windows, they were gone again and only that mysterious blank shortcut appeared again!I did a full system scan with Norton AntiVirus 2007 and AVG Anti-Spyware and they didn't find anything.

Found I could open and print by running Word and opening the files from the 'open file menu' -- did this 12 times, fine. But try to double-click the same file that just printed -- hangs (and same for other files e.g. image files). the Folder showed on two lines in TaskManager Applications ''Not responding'' and no other applications; I did try cleaning registry ist time ever in nearly 4yo computer, restart seemed fine. But still hung on any particular file even with other applications (ie not just Word). Defragged but no better. Then thought of ChkDsk....It asked for restart to access certain windows files......now I canot tell whether CHKDSK is doing something or its just stuck in failing to boot.
View 3 Replies View Relatedbasically I need to know how to make a pc boot from the HD and install XP by copying the XP CD to the HD. Details & reason below:I've formatted the hard drive on a a friends emachine (by putting the HD into my machine) due to mess with viruses etc.Put HD back into e machine and tried to install XP from an OEM XP CD (genuine windows) - it boots and starts install, copying files to the hard drive fine but when it reboots it doesn't continue the install, but just goes back to the start, wanting to copy the files again. So what I'm going to do is put the HD back in my machine, copy the XP CD to a partition on the HD and then put it back in the machine, boot from HD and install XP all from HD. Question is- how do I get it to boot from the hard drive and start the install?I don't have a floppy boot disk or a floppy drive on my machine to make floppy boot disk. I can set the machine to boot from the HD 1st, that's no problem, just don't know how to set up the HD to let it boot from that so I can run the windows install which will be on the partition on the HD.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had some bad sectors on an IBM thinkpad. The computer was booting just fine. I used ghost32 to ghost the drive (not just the partition) to an image and then back onto a brand new drive. Now I cannot get the new drive to boot. The partition is setup just like before and is active but once I get past the IBM bios screen it just doesn't do anything. If I put the old drive in it works fine.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a problem with a laptop that will not boot up.
Lenovo 3000 C100
Windows XP Home
After powering it it up it seems like it does not recognize that the hard drive is there so XP does not boot. No error message. It brings up a Boot Device menu screen with the options to boot from Floppy (does not have one), HardDisk (does not work), CD-ROM or PXE. Choosing HardDisk does not work.
In the BIOS screen the hard disk has the status: "Disable" and there does not seem to be a way to change that. In the BIOS boot sequence the hard disk appears as it should. I've tried reordering the sequence but it makes no difference
Every 3-4days my computer would freeze up while booting up at windows XP screen and scroll bars would freeze. What bohers me about this is i am sure what could be causing this. I use avg as my antivirus, and run A2, spybot, regcleaner, tweaknow on a weekly basis. I keep my system really clean, so now i am wondering is it my HD. PC: Win XP-PRO, 800MHZ AMD Athlon, 1024mb,80gHD. I did what cleaning i could in safemode, it still freeze on scroll bars. I tried last good config, result is the same. The last time i got pass the freezing was by doing a restore.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI didn't open any suspicious emails, shared on P2P networks and certainly made no changes in system files. Only thing I did was what I do periodically. I defragged my hard drive, uninstalled games and went into msconfig and stopped 3 programs from start up (DEAMON tools, PowerISO and SQL service) I was also having problems with the SpyCop package so I uninstalled and reinstalled.
So I restarted (like I should) and the only process it goes through is the DELL start up "splash screen" After that it usually does the Windows XP "splash screen" but it never does the Windows XP screen, it just stays black, nothing. I pressed F2 to see if anything changed and nothing seemed to, as far as I know. I tried F8 to enter safe mode and a couple lines of text show up and stop and hang. I even tried to let it sit there to see if maybe it's just getting used to the defrag job(s) I did, still black. It's still black as I type this.
I had a two seperate versions of windows installed on two seperate hard drives, when i turn the computer on it asks me which one i want to boot from. well the second hard drive is now dying and somtimes it tells me DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT BOOT DISK AND PRESS ENTER. now this only happends when the second hard drive doesnt work. I have tried to just unplug the second drive to see if it would boot off of the original copy on the first drive but i get the same thing.

I did not have the operating system on that hard drive but, that hard drive contained the xp boot record or ntldr .
