View 2 RepliesI am sure you will need a HJT log but can't remember how to get one. This computer has been starting up fine but if i walk away I comp back to :1962 no operating system found. Press f1 to repeat boot sequence and when I do that I get a weird graph and more errors. I don;t know where to start. If you advise how to get a log maybe that's where I should begin.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWhen i installed winXP on my new rig, something happened in the middle and the install failed. When i rebooted with windows CD, i re-installed winXP.What happened is that i had the regular win install on drive C:, and another win XP install on drive D:formatted the D: drive, to delete the bad installation.
My problem is that, whenever i start up my computer, just after booting, it brings me to the Operating System Choosing screen, where you need to choose which OS you wanna boot. The first one is the normal windows which i use, the second option im guessing was made with the corrupted installation, and appears even after i formatted drive D
On bootup, after selecting XP in the OS Selection Menu, it refuses to boot. There is not BSOD which i can see even after "Disabling Automatic System Restart on Failure".I cant boot into any of the Safe Modes and the "Use last known good configuration that worked" does not work. Some of the things i did before this started to happen are as follows:
1) Ran an online virus scanner, namely OneCare
2) Used gpedit.msc..Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System
Don't know what found it's way into my PC last night but I was suddenly hit with the BSOD showing the following error:
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0x87AB43B2, 0xF79AD270, 0xF79ACF6C)
Normal reboot results in the same screen and trying to boot up into sfae mode just returns me to the setup (F8) screen. So, I figured on a repair for which I've managed to get hold of an XP disc from my mother of all people.
So far I have, based on what I have found from searching the net, via the Recovery Console on the disc I have:
run chkdsk /r
followed by a reboot - no change
COPY D:i386NTLDR C:
COPY D:i386NTDETECT.COM C:
FIXBOOT
followed by a reboot - no change
FIXMBR (yes to proceed)
followed by a reboot -- no change
bootcfg /rebuild
WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
/Fastdetect
Those procedures sounded pretty safe to me and I don't think I've damaged my PC any further but ...
I have a strange problem which I can't seem to rectify, I've searched around but can't find a solution. I have a Dell Demension 8400, it has 1GB RAM installed, an 80GB C: drive and I have a 250GB external USB drive (which I use for back-up, I store pictures music etc there) and I'm running Windows XP PRO with SP3+ all fixes installed.
he problem is I can NOT boot info safe mode. (I can boot normally though no problem). When I tap F8 key, I get the safe mode choices just fine (just safe mode or safe mode with networking etc) when I make a choice it starts to load then I get a BSOD with the following message/information
A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to the computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen (it's NOT it happens every safe mode boot no matter if I choose just safe mode or save mode with networking etc.)restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for Viruses on your computer (I do always have Avira's AntiVir running and fully updated, I ran Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and spybot search & destroy). Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers (no new hard drives or controllers). Check your hard drive to make sure it is configured and terminated (I assume it's working I can boot into windows fine normally just NOT in safe mode). Run CHKDSK /F (I did that no problems detected) to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer. (the problem of course still exists)

I'm not 100% sure what to do, I really don't want to format & reinstall Windows from scratch because I have so many "things" which I use alot that I'd not want to try to replace.
Using safe mode isn't 100% essential, but there have been times in the past I needed it to remove a malware that could not be removed in normal mode.
bsod at the starting of the hard drive and need to be fix and i can't go to safe mode and here is the bsod code: 0x000000d1 (0x00000000, 0x00000007, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) on a acer veriton 5200 running windows xp home with sp2 or sp3 i don't remember which service pack
View 3 Replies View RelatedEverything was lovely with my boot.ini file,I have XP Home, XP Pro, Longhorn and Windows 98SE. All on one hard drive, different partitions, of course.I installed Windows ME ( not sure what gave me that brilliant idea)and now my boot menu is messed up. It initially eliminated 98 and put Windows ME there, so I added 98 back, but if I choose 98 it still goes to ME, which is on an external hard drive. I installed ME by booting with a 98 bootdisk with cdrom support, and installed ME to the external drive. Is there any way of getting my 98 boot option back? 98 is still on my main drive, I can see it, I just can't boot to it

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I start up my computer, right after the windows xp display, my toshiba laptop gets the bsod and restarts, repeating the process over and over again. I can't go into safe mode or anything, it'll just do the same thing again. View 7 Replies View RelatedIt all started when a friend gave me a 4 port USB Hub come clock and cup warmer!!! which I plugged into my pc. I plugged my printer into it, when I switched off the printer the system crashed to a BSOD. On reboot, as I remember, it came up with a splash screen I have never seen before (ASUS I think) then a BIOS set up page! I left the settings as they were and clicked ok, I think it was set to 700mhz. Since then it has been going to BSOD every time I switch off, or when I play Tiger Woods 2006 and go to save or move on to the next level of the game. It recently rebooted with the BIOS set up again which I changed to 933mhz hoping it was just that causing the problem!! Also when it reboots I get the voice telling me it has gone thru POST and booting from operating system. I have recorded stop errors from the last two crashes if it helps.

I have (or, rather, had) an eMachines desktop running XP Home. I fried its motherboard but the HDD remained intact. I pulled it out and found another system running XP Pro (a Dell Precision desktop). However, simply swapping the HDDs to boot up from the eMachines' drive on the Dell did not work: it complained about hardware mismatch and I could not even start Windows in Safe mode. Is there any way to do this? What else do I need to do to get it to work?I am trying to avoid getting a new computer at this point, so getting the Dell to "be just like" my old eMachines would be ideal.

Ive been getting a Windows XP Pro BSOD with the following technical information:

Then i gave up, but tried again after 15 mins or so, it booted up.I only started getting the error after i replaced my comp's PSU (the old one died - i tested the old one on another comp) a few months ago. First of all, System Restore never works. Ever. Not a single time in the 2+ years I have had this machine. I have it set to automatically make restore points, but when I try to restore to them it just tells me that it was incomplete and no changes have been made to my system. Then, recently (in the past few days), I've been getting BSOD's with errors of either win32k.sys (0x08E) or NDIS.sys (0x0DI, DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). Microsoft Crash Analysis has twice told me it was a RAM issue, and twice told me it's a driver issue.
View 14 Replies View RelatedFor example, today when I started the computer it kept shutting off and wouldnt stay on longer than 2 seconds. Then eventually it stayed on, but has crashed several more times since then. Some other things:-Recently my Dvd drive has been disapearing off and on lately (it's showing at the moment, though). -Also my windows updates have been failing lately as well. Even though the BSODs were occuring way before that, it's still odd.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have the problem with the bsod error (0x00000007F or something). I can't get the other specific details because I can't catch the numbers fast enough before my comp restarts. I even checked off the automatic restart button too! Usually, the system crashes randomly, when I have alot of programs on, or when im playing counter strike in particu I almost forget, it started just recently when my comp suddenly froze (except the mouse). So I restarted it but my system wouldnt boot past the logo screen. I've did almost everything people suggested but I just gave up and decided to start up new. Bad idea. So now I got everything installed. I am almost sure that it has nothing to do with software because it worked with the same things before (Even though my audio driver didnt pass the XP certification thing, which is odd).

Dumping physical memory to disk: xx’
I’ve booted Windows several times and the hex addresses all stay the same. I’m thinking it might be useful to upload the memory dumps, but don’t know how to do this. I have made several small attempts to repair the system. Firstly I started the computer in safe mode and scanned the hard drive using AVG Free, which (surprisingly) found several Trojans and other viruses. This made no difference when starting the computer, so I pressed F8 again when Windows was starting and chose ‘Last Known Good Configuration’ which again made no difference. Finally I started the computer in ‘Safe mode with Command Prompt’ and ran ‘chkdsk’ which found no errors...........
i am trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine. it is not booting. i know that i could take the easy way out and format the HD, then reinstall windows. but i want to actually FIX IT, if you know what i mean. The PC is a Gateway 700XL that I purchased in February 2002: Intel Pentium IIII 2.2.GHz processor, Intel 850 chipset, & 400 Mhz front side bus. Whenever i boot the system,it says scan C drive.even though i shut down it properly.
I just did a fresh restore of Windows XP Media SP2 from manufacturers restore DVD, and downloaded all of the Hot Fixes and updates from Microsoft. Everything was fine for about a day, but now the system boots, I get to the black screen where it asks you if you want to start Normally or in Safe Mode, or last known configuration that worked. No mater what I choose, it just shuts off.
This is the reason I did the full system restore in the first place.I dont know if this is related, but when I hook up the hard drive to my laptop to scan for viruses and spyware (you never know), the hard drive keeps shutting on and off. But it doesnt do that when its hooked up to the tower in which it came from, so it might just be the device Im using
