BSOD Upon Logon - Browsing Internet - System Locked Up

Dec 23, 2008

I’m having problems with my laptop, which started today. Whilst browsing the internet the system locked up, leaving me with no alternative than to hold down the power button until the system turned off. When I turned the computer back on it froze shortly after logging on, before going to a blue screen saying,

‘A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc00000005, 0xEE1A8B3A, 0xF70E97E8, 0x00000000)
Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk: xx’

I’ve booted Windows several times and the hex addresses all stay the same. I’m thinking it might be useful to upload the memory dumps, but don’t know how to do this. I have made several small attempts to repair the system. Firstly I started the computer in safe mode and scanned the hard drive using AVG Free, which (surprisingly) found several Trojans and other viruses. This made no difference when starting the computer, so I pressed F8 again when Windows was starting and chose ‘Last Known Good Configuration’ which again made no difference. Finally I started the computer in ‘Safe mode with Command Prompt’ and ran ‘chkdsk’ which found no errors...........

BSOD While Browsing With Firefox 3

Oct 18, 2008

Updated to Firefox v3.0.3 but I had problems with BSOD, randomly, when I click on some links, I would just get a blue screen of death with a stop message and saying DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ADDRESS BD2ABD7E base at BD29E00 (or OO I don't know now) Modname: afd.sys and a dumping phisycal memory to disk message,so today I downgraded back to firefox v2.0.0.17 I will write if the BSOD shows again, Oh and I found out that afd.sys is an service pack file located in C:/WINNT/ServicePack Files/i386 so it's a service pack file, but I have the newest service pack.

Slow Internet Browsing: Takes 30 Seconds To Load A Page?

May 13, 2006

i just bought this new computer for 1 of the staff and i have configured his profile. but then i tried to browse the internet and found it very slow, not in opening the IE, but in loading the pages. it takes around 20 to 30 seconds to load a page. when i use ping to check the connectivity, it takes a long time to display the first line, but it gives me a 1ms when pinging the server, which is good.

now i login with the administrator account and find the internet browsing is fast, but again the ping takes a while to display the first line. i did give that user Administrator permissions and tried again, but it's the same issue. i thought it would be higher permissions which could affect the user. So, i added the user to "domain admins", "administrators" groups, and i tried again, but the same situation

Dell Inspiron Laptop Wireless Internet Locked Up

Jul 23, 2007

As fate would have it, the warranty expired on the 15th of July - The computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop - running windows XP. After being left online overnight in a hotel with wireless internet it locked up. Currently we get different results (but all results end in a lock up at the windows screen) - usually it comes up with a screen saying "we apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" (no new hardware or software was installed prior to lockup) It gives you options to try to start - (I can't remember what all it said - but safe mode was a choice and going back to a prior time was a choice) Usually it is just locked up and you can't click on anything.

Once I did get it to go to safe mode and I tried to do a system restore - It did go through all the motions of doing a system restore - but when rebooted - the same "we apologize" error was there - WHen I can click on a starting option it goes to the windows screen - the blue line runs for a few seconds - then it just locks up. Dell wants a small fortune to help me over the phone. This is my son's college computer. I was thinking he probably picked up a virus when he was online in the hotel. Is that possible? It has let me get into set up by pressing F2 during boot - but I have no idea what to do there (if anything) F12 is another option it gives - but it wont do anything when I push that.

System Haults On Browsing?

Apr 18, 2007

I have a problem that I just can't figure out. I 'll be on the internet, and when I click on a link(not every time), the page that I'm on just freezes. My mouse will indicate that it's busy, but it just stays like that. I first thought it was Spyware Terminator, so I uninstalled it. But to no avail. It did it again. Now remember, it's not every time. I keep a copy of my important files on an external drive, so reinstalling windows is nothing more that a pain in the behind. Which is what I did. I have an oem vesion of Windows MCE, which I've never had any problems with before. So here I am, thinking that I've taking care of the problem, when you guessed it, it did it again. And this is with barely anything installed, because I uninstall almost everything that MCE comes with. And this is where I'm at. I just can't figure out what's causing this to happen. I 've been coming to TSG almost every day for a very long time, because I really learn a lot and enjoy reading the many posts, and the members who respond to them. I didn't include a copy of Hijack this because it did it on a fresh install.

Computer Slowed Down: System Froze While Browsing?

Feb 9, 2009

A couple of weeks ago I was searching the net and everything froze. Trying to shut down properly, NOTHING would work, including the power button. I removed and reconnected the battery to shut down and restart.Well, since then my computer has been unbearably slow. Every task from start-up (20 minutes, if at all) to loading Firefox (10 minutes) in awful. There are times where nothing even loads, all I see is my background and a cursor, nothing more.On the lucky chance that I do get everything up and running, it is slow to the point where even the clock is behind other clocks around me (cable box, other laptop) by 8-20 or so minutes.

Logon Scripts Internet Access

Apr 12, 2004

I need to block internet access on a per- user basis, easy enough, use a logon / logoff script probably by redirecting that users gateway to an invalid gateway, like 127.0.0.1 sounds good, problem is, what command do I use to do this? Been searching technet, COTSE etc. for days. I know it can be done, a sadly departed sysadmin had two closely - guarded 'internet on' and 'internet off' scripts he used to run on miscreant users profiles in the old days when I was just a power user.

Program Cannot Closed - Locked System

Feb 1, 2007

On my Toshiba laptop running W-XP SP2 it keeps getting 'locked up'. It locks up on shut down, booting, and launching programs. I had to wipe out my hard disk because I had to use the recover disk that came with this Toshiba junk Right now it is locked up with the Spysweeper screen up an the error message is "THIS PROGRAM CANNOT BE CLOSED BECAUSE IT IS LOCKED BY THE SYSTEM"!!! Got that when I did Ctrl/Alt/Del. When it locks on shut down I get same message, and same when locks on boot. Only way out seems to be UNPLUG!!! I've already lost everything anyways so it don't matter. Is this a TOSHIBA issue or a W-XP Home Edition SP2 issue?

System Restore A Good Idea - Logon Operating System

Apr 29, 2008

The situation: A reasonably new PC, clean and working properly. Several new programs are installed, including Firefox, Winamp, desktop publishing, photo manager, and security software (not the antivirus, standalone scanners.) Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.

Locked System - Cannot Load Safe Mode

I installed "The Lock XP" on my system and when I restarted I was locked out of everything. I have already contacted Tech Support for "The Lock XP" and I was talking to her for three days trying to figure this out...and well she was unable to. So here is where we left off...

I cannot load Safe Mode, Safe Mode w/Networking, or Safe Mode w/Command Prompt. When I do try to load a Safe Mode, except "Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)" it loads, says it is starting windows and then restarts. I cannot access C: Drive, cmd.exe, notepad.exe, I cant download, but can access the internet by double-clicking on Windows Internet Explorer. Here is a list of Running Programs on my system when Windows Loads, which is the same when loaded in "Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)" :

Infinite Logon Loop / Immediatley Logs Off To The Logon Screen

Sep 22, 2004

My computer starts up normally. It always just autologs on since I'm the only one using my windows xp computer. However, before anything can be displayed it immediatley logs off to the logon screen. I click my username and start the login process (i have no password and before even switching to my wallpaper or anything it says stuff like logging out and saving your settings.

I tried booting in safe mode too and the same infinite logon loop occured to, even with the default administrator account. The last thing I remember doing before this happened is I was playing City of Heroes when it crashed forcing me to restart my computer. This happens occasionally in certain programs but I've never had anything like this happen before. I tried unplugging my keyboard, mouse, usb devices, ethernet cable, no luck. Intel Pentium 4 1.7 ghz Geforce 5600 FX 256 mb windows xp home service pack 1, in case any of that matters

System Restore Locked CDROM Drive Into D:/RECOVERY

Logon Error - Command Length Incorrect - (NO ONE CAN LOGON)

Jul 15, 2005

I've seen another post somewhere and someone else had this problem, but I haven't found a solution. We're using WXP Pro, SP2. After doing a repair install (the other person just had it after using Windows Update), at logon, after entering the correct, AND VALID, password either for a user Or the Administrator, Windows Logon displays the following Logon Message in a box: "!The system cannot log you on due to the following error: "The program issued a command but the command length is incorrect. "Please try again or consult your administrator."

No matter how many times logon is attempted, or with what account, the message continues to be issued. Thus, NO ONE can logon to the GUI. The Recovery Console can be used to logon as Administrator, but no password is requested even though there is one in place. I've searched the MSKB but didn't find any reference. Implementing "Last known good configuration" does not fix the problem.

System Get BSOD And Restart

System Haults In BSOD?

Oct 6, 2006

It all started when a friend gave me a 4 port USB Hub come clock and cup warmer!!! which I plugged into my pc. I plugged my printer into it, when I switched off the printer the system crashed to a BSOD. On reboot, as I remember, it came up with a splash screen I have never seen before (ASUS I think) then a BIOS set up page! I left the settings as they were and clicked ok, I think it was set to 700mhz. Since then it has been going to BSOD every time I switch off, or when I play Tiger Woods 2006 and go to save or move on to the next level of the game. It recently rebooted with the BIOS set up again which I changed to 933mhz hoping it was just that causing the problem!! Also when it reboots I get the voice telling me it has gone thru POST and booting from operating system. I have recorded stop errors from the last two crashes if it helps.
