Turning off my laptop and instead it restarted and froze. Will not boot in safe, last known config or anything. I can go into BIOS and debugging and such but will not boot up sys. Here is the last line it sticks at: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2) WINDOWSSystem32Drivers Mup.sys. I then tried PC Restore (nothing) have no recovery CD so tried to boot useing XP Home SP2 disk and got this STOP MESSAGE : ***STOP: 0X00000007E pci.sys address F85480BF base at F8541000, DATE STAMP 3b7d855c.
I was asked to work on a laptop that was having issues staying on, I finally fixed the power switch and got the thing running. It started to boot and then I got the error "C:WINDOWSsystem32configsystem is corrupt or missing" And then it rambles on about the recovery console, thats fine and dandy and all but the problem is that this machine was from compaq -_- so the recovery console was built into a secondary partition.
I get this error loading DOCEOC16B1 after boot along with an unwanted little winodw in the right corner above tool bar on desktop, it sat Search the Web on it. I have run the latest versions of spybot SD, ad aware, CW shredder, and also Counterspy 1.0. The boot takes much longer than normal now too.
A friend is receiving anytime he turns his PC on this error message: "Frequency out of Range". The Pc can lauch the boot process ( asking you to press F10 to access the Boot Menu or F2 for the Bios Settings) then the operating system, but some how the above error message always closes the process up. Then nothing else can be seen on the dark black screen but this error message. I tried to run the Pc on safe mode to access the control panel, but in vain.
I'm considering turning off System Restore (SR), but I wonder if there are consequences beyond the obvious? For instance, do Microsoft security updates ever need to set a restore point, and if SR is off would these updates fail?
my computer works perfectly until i try to download anything, the computer still runs but all i have is a blue screen stating that it has shutdown for safety reasons.I cannot restart the system unless i switch it off at the wall, the operating system is windows xp
When I run a scan with Super antispyware on windows xp my system tuns off. I hear some beeps before it dies. The system runs fine if I don't run the scan. I ran the scan in safe mode and the same thing happened.
I am trying to update my EVGA 7800GT's BIOS as well as my motherboard's. I have done this a few months ago, same disks and everything. When I create a floppy with the required files and restart, I get the following message:"Non-system disk or disk error. Replace and strike any key when ready."
When booting up my PC, I am receiving the following error message 'STOP: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): SystemRootSystem32ConfigSOFTWARE or its lor or alternative. It is corrupt, absent or not writable'. I understand that the OS needs to be recovered from the XP bootup disk but the OS was pre-installed so I do not have a copy of this.
when I had a second HD for storage and format it in Vista, everything is fine, I can move files in and out of it, no problem. Then I shut down and boot up into XP. When I go to access the drive its says its unreadable. Then I shut down and go back into Vista, it now says its unreadable. So I have to do a full reformat for it to work again
Error:cannot find file:///program%20files/motive/tuner...kercallin.htmlHowever I do get in, very slowly. What does this message mean? I have Verizon DSL and am running on Windows XP home edition version 2002 service pack 2. Does this error message also have anything to do with the incredibly L-O-N-G time it takes for my computer to boot up?
The pc normally runs when i open for the first time and when i restart it shows "a disk read error press ctrl + alt +del to restart " at booting and when i do the same it shows me the same error again... i have to power off whole my system and then have to on it again... cannot restart.. please help ... and also i am not getting the dvd drive option shown at the selection of boot, means at 'to boot from where' ... instead it shows the cd drive which is not connected.
I just reformatted my hard drive using Windows XP re-installation CD. After successfully formatting and installing xp, it goes to restart to continue with the setup. Once it starts to boot it says that press any key to boot from cd but I don't do anything cause it's not supposed to so it try's to boot from hard drive but says: Disk read error Press ctrl + alt + del to restart. I don't understand whats up. I had Windows 7 installed before but do to unfortunate circumstances I have to install XP for now, but I can't complete the installation.Priority Boot Sequence:1.CD 2. Hard Drive.
I'm trying to dual boot Windows XP Pro 32-bit and Windows 7 with Windows 7 installed first; but this isn't the problem.
The problem is trying to boot Windows XP so it can install. I booted XP from an installation CD, then a blue setup screen appears, with some files apparently being loaded at the bottom of the screen (this is around the time pressing F6 to load drivers comes up). Then boom, I get blue screened with this error and cannot proceed:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
I'm having a problem with a laptop that will not boot up.
Lenovo 3000 C100 Windows XP Home
After powering it it up it seems like it does not recognize that the hard drive is there so XP does not boot. No error message. It brings up a Boot Device menu screen with the options to boot from Floppy (does not have one), HardDisk (does not work), CD-ROM or PXE. Choosing HardDisk does not work.
In the BIOS screen the hard disk has the status: "Disable" and there does not seem to be a way to change that. In the BIOS boot sequence the hard disk appears as it should. I've tried reordering the sequence but it makes no difference
When i boot up my system(wind xp pro)i get message that says 'metadatamonitor has encountered a problem and must close' with the usual ,send error report or don't send.I click on don't send and carry on my merry way without any apparrent problems. What does it all mean people
I have (or, rather, had) an eMachines desktop running XP Home. I fried its motherboard but the HDD remained intact. I pulled it out and found another system running XP Pro (a Dell Precision desktop). However, simply swapping the HDDs to boot up from the eMachines' drive on the Dell did not work: it complained about hardware mismatch and I could not even start Windows in Safe mode. Is there any way to do this? What else do I need to do to get it to work?I am trying to avoid getting a new computer at this point, so getting the Dell to "be just like" my old eMachines would be ideal.

A client w/a laptop tried to boot his PC and got the error that the ntoskrnl.exe was missing. Is this a candidate for repair install or is it possible to copy the file from CD back to its original folder?
I cannot bootup the computer. It gives me the following error STOP:- c0000218 Registry file failure. The registry cannot load the hive (file) or systemrootsystem32configsecurity or the log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable. Cannot boot to safemode, also tried last known good configuration without success. I have also tried the microsoft KB 307545 fix but could not copy or delete the security file.

i am trying to fix a computer for a friend of mine. it is not booting. i know that i could take the easy way out and format the HD, then reinstall windows. but i want to actually FIX IT, if you know what i mean. This is what happens.1. i press the power button on the laptop 2. the first screen that pops up is black with the words: SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: TOSHIBA MK4025GAS-(PM)Cannot_Find_Strin Cannot_Find_StringPress F1 to Continue3. when i press F1 it says that windows did not start sucessfully. it also gives me a choice to enter in Safte Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Known Good Config, or Start Windows Noramlly.
My son's computer has Windows 2000. It keeps starting over and over. It will only get to the Windows 2000 screen and then it restarts. It does this constantly. It won't even get to the desk top screen.
I've been having a re-occurring PC problem that is driving me nuts! I'd appreciate it if someone could look over the following "error messages" that I get on my PC, perhaps diagnose the problem, and hopefully suggest solutions that I could try. For your reference: I use Windows XP Home Version - Service Patch 2 as my operating system. The PC is a Gateway 700XL that I purchased in February 2002: Intel Pentium IIII 2.2.GHz processor, Intel 850 chipset, & 400 Mhz front side bus. I keep my operating system updated as well as my Norton AntiVirus program. I have "intermediate" PC skills. Usually I help others, but not this time
I just did a fresh restore of Windows XP Media SP2 from manufacturers restore DVD, and downloaded all of the Hot Fixes and updates from Microsoft. Everything was fine for about a day, but now the system boots, I get to the black screen where it asks you if you want to start Normally or in Safe Mode, or last known configuration that worked. No mater what I choose, it just shuts off.
This is the reason I did the full system restore in the first place.I dont know if this is related, but when I hook up the hard drive to my laptop to scan for viruses and spyware (you never know), the hard drive keeps shutting on and off. But it doesnt do that when its hooked up to the tower in which it came from, so it might just be the device Im using
I am having problems booting my laptop, it is a HP Pavilion ze4111s laptop, installed with Windows XP Home edition. I have tried using all the system recovery disks that came with the laptop and tried rebooting from the cd-rom but nothing is working. It says eventually when it does something after test bios that HP EEPROM has been reinitialized and to resume or enter setup. when booting from cd-rom and pressing to resume, it says "wrong CD for this notebook".
I tried to boot my computer and after the HP logo i got a black screen that reads ;
"SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk 0: Toshiba MK6025GAS-(PM)
1720 - S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive detects imminent failure (Failing Attr :05h)Please back up the contents of the hard drive and run HDD self test in F2 setup ress F1 to continue"
