When I boot my computer up my computer is freezing up once in a while at the loading screen with the blue loading bar. The bar goes across about three times and the on the fourth time it stops and freezes and nothing happens after that. Once in awhile it will go to a blue error screen witht the following codes: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF9787C09, 0xF9677FE8, 0x00000000).

After that, his computer crashed and I haven't been able to get passed the screen with Windows XP Professional and the moving blue bar and then it freezes. Last Good Configuration doesn't work; it ends up at the same place and the blue bar stops also. I System Restored it to the day before he installed the program; once again, the blue bar stops moving.Could this be a hardware issue? Virus (unlikely)?

When I start the computer, it asks if for the choice of Safe Mode, w/ Networking, w/Command Prompt or Normally.
I've tried them all and if I try it normally, it won't get past the XP loading screen. It's loading and then it flashes a blue screen for a second and then restarts the computer again.
I tried pressing F8 at boot and selected 'Disable automatic restart on system failure' and this is what I get

I even tried using this http://forums.techguy.org/6669592-post28.html to get to chkdsk At boot, F12, chose CD/DVD, but still nothing, I even tried disabling boot from +HDD, FDD and LAN from the bios setup menu to see if it works and this is what I got, it just keeps going on and on unless I enable boot from +HDD

I couldnt start up windows. It would hang at the windows loading screen and go no further. So I was told to try a repair-install. And thats where even more trouble has started. So I started to repair-install. During the Windows Install setup, it gets almost to the point of being completed, but gave me a blue screen error STOP message at around the "18 minutes left" mark. During "Registering components". It would do this every time at the same spot. So I searched a bit about how to solve the problem. One suggestion I found on the interwebs was to try it with only one stick of ram installed, I have four overall at 2gb. So I tried that, next time I boot up to the comp, it loads up the bios, and then goes to the black windows loading screen with the loading bar, then starts with a blue screen saying "Setup is being restarted" So I figure its restarting my windows installation since it never was completed, after that message, the screen goes black with a cursor, and stays that way forever. I immediately put all the ram back in, and no luck, same thing. I tested each individual ram stick, same thing, just goes black. So now, I can't even seem to re-install windows. Did my hard drive just crap out? Some hardware issue? Im already thinking about buying a new fresh hard drive, installing windows on there, and just moving all my files from the old hard drive over to the new one. Though that would be a pain, I really want to save my current drive! And all the data on it.
View 12 Replies View RelatedFirst I run Windows 2000 and keep it updated as much as Microsoft releases updates. I also reguarly run anti-virus, anti-spyware, defrag, etc. The problem started 2 weeks ago when I booted the computer it showed the MB splash screen and then instead of the 2000 loading screen it just showed "Error loading OS." in the top left. Well I figured the hard drive was going so I pulled it out, blew it off, tapped on it, checked connections and stuck it back in. Rebooted and everything seemed fine and has the past 2 weeks. Well today I was playing Civilization 4 and the screen went blue. Yes the dreaded blue screen, but no error messages on the screen or anything. Just a solid blue screen. The computer didn't respond to anything so I pushed the power button on the case. Well upon restarting nothing happens. Just a blank screen. No MB splash screen or anything. Everything is powered up and I can hear the hard drive spinning, but nothing is on the screen.

Now I've had this problem before and I fixed it with putting in the Installation CD and hitting setup Windows XP then repairing my Windows XP. After that I wouldnt lose all my files but I would have to go through this annoying 30-45 min setup every time.

I have read most of your fixes BUT in my case no matter what I do it ALWAYS boots to this screen. Trying to boot to Safe Mode results in a list of drivers prefixed by ?multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)c:windowsdriver.sys etc The machine will not boot from Floppy or CD and I?ve tried every combination of boot sequence under the F12 menu. In the BIOS it will not allow me to change any relevant settings, only the ?system date?, ?system time? and ?quiet boot?.and I cannot select the dropdown menu items either. Booting under Normal Startup, I see the Windows Logo and all that, but then the blue screen appears. I?ve tried removing the hard disk to get it to boot to floppy, removing the battery (which is totally dead), memory module, etc. Only thing left I think is to sling it in the Caribbean Ocean and go drink a bottle of rum.

But now, If I try to press F8 it just ignores it and carrys on into loading windows normally, which causes the PC to freeze. This also happens when I try and boot from my windows setup disk. I have checked all the lights on my keyboard and they are all on and working whenever I press Caps Lock etc.As for Viruses etc. I had not downloaded anything new onto the PC since this last hapened and I have been running regular Anti-Virus scans every 2-3 days.

However, when I boot up I get the Windows XP Home loading screen, the 3 green dots pass by 3-5 times, then freeze. I can get in via Safe Mode, and my apps seem to run OK.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt seems like ever since the first xp pro installation i made on this computer i have had nothing but problems. every time i turn on my computer, i see normal computer information before the windows screen, when the windows screen comes, the loading bar freezes at a certain point. It will sit at that point until i restart the computer by the button on the tower. Once it happens once, it will continue to happen until i reinstall windows using the cd. After i reinstall, it will boot up fine, but next time i restart my computer it starts all over.

First i tried to boot from disk and then it told me that i dont even have a hard drive installed. I fixed this problem by pressing F6 when my windows cd was booting up and now it loads some RAID drivers off from a floppy disk i made up so that the HDD is there.
Just as some other posts have mentioned, i did not try the recovery console and went straight into setting up windows. When it asks me to choose a partition. I selected the one that i created when i built my computer (the one i have very valuable files on) and from there it gives me the "blue screen of death" or so my friend used to call it...the one that says the computer has been shut down to prevent damage to my computer.
Any ideas?
Also, with no other ideas i went into the recovery console... it asks something around "on what volume do you want to recover"...so i press the number 1 which is drive C then from there goes to the blue screen again.
Another thought i ran across is that the disk i am trying to use is a windows xp home and i set up my computer with xp pro....i seem to have lost the disk!!! Im hoping that's not the reason for the blue screen.

I tried booting into "Safe Mode" to defrag my computer. Before it goes into "Safe Mode" I get a blue screen stating that "I must remove improperly installed software to proceed". I have not installed any software. I have replaced my cd-rom burner and it is working properly. Any ideas on how a I may access "Safe Mode"??

I set up a friends computer with 2000 and I didn't enter a password. Apparently, someone else has entered one but can not remember it, thus their computer is useless without the password.

I ran an anti-spyware program, and it said it would run again when I restarted my computer to finish the job. I restarted my computer, and it never finished booting. It goes to the black screen with the Windows logo and the blue scrolling line just fine. Then it goes to the light blue screen with the dark blue borders and the words Microsoft Windows XP in the middle, and just stops. I know it is not frozen because there is a mouse pointer on-screen that I can still move. It stops at this same point no matter what mode I try to load in. I am using XP Home SP2.

When I turn my computer on this morning, it started to boot, but after few seconds, the long message appears, something like: "We are sorry for inconvenience but Windows can not start... " and it tells me to either boot into Safe mode, use last configuration, or start Windows normally. The last option is highlighted. But after that, blue screen flashes for just a moment (long enough to see there is some text but not long enough to read it), and then it goes back to start... detecting hard drive and stuff. It keeps looping like that forever. I tried to go to safe mode, but the same things happen. It goes back to start and then a "Start Windows normally" is Highlighted again.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen booting PC up, there is a problem with URLMON.DLL, i took the harddrive out and copied over the file, and was given information that some other DLL files were damaged also, i painstakingly copied the files over, untill it booted up, ran all the scans I could - MS AntiSpy, Adaware, Norton AV, and Norton WinDoctor, Spy Subtract. Rebooted the computer and the First URLMON.DLL error message came up and would not allow me back into windows.

Any program I tried to open would not open, and then the shortcuts on my desktop changed icons to the folder icon and the text dissapeared. I couldn't do anything, so I just figured it was some freak bug or something. I couldn't run any spyware or virus programs because it wouldn't let me open any programs. So I try to shut it down, and no matter how many times I clicked on shut down I still had to hold the button in to shut it off. Now, when I restart my computer, it seems to load just fine but when it gets to the blue screen with the windows xp logo on it, it just stops. The mouse cursor is there and I can move it but it never gets past the blue screen. I tired loading it in safe mode and it loads all the files up through mup.sys, which I have learned is the last file that loads so it is something after that. I have tried to start it using the last good configuration and still no luck. Any ideas? Do you think it is spyware/virus or just a corrupt system file?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI turned on my PC this morning to find it would restart after the Windows Loading screen and give me the list of safe mode, etc. I went into safe mode but it done the same. This is also the case for all of the other options, including last configuration. The previous night I received a BSOD (Blue screen of death) and there was a count up showing memory dump to hard drive. I read the instructions and as it said it was my first event and so I restart. However, I did restart when the counter was at around 34. Im guessing thats really a % and I should have waited until 100%?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy XP desktop locks up/freezes randomly. Everything is still on the screen. Looks normal, fans run in the PC, but is it frozen. I have to shut it off and restart. Then it works fine until it randomly locks up. It sometimes gives the blue screen if im in middle of using it but most times it will just lock up. Other times it will reboot itself. Started happening a few weeks back but seems to have gotten progressively worse. I used to last for a few hours but now it can happen seconds after I log in ...other times it will let me use for 15-20 mins.

There was an instance of Windows XP installed, and seller asked me to format it before I started using the computer, I agreed and headed home. To test it out I installed Prince of Persia and ran that, everything went smoothly and I was satisfied. I then went out and bought a nice $200 widescreen monitor (the 15" crt wasnt cutting it) and the wireless card as it only had ethernet. iv gone into BIOS, i ran the HD self test, and both the short and long test fail before really even doing anything.
the computer freezes at start-up on the blue screen that shows the Windows XP logo, and the words "Windows is starting up". I found that I can navigate

I am using a Gateway Tablet PC. XP PRO; 2Gig ram; 80 gig hd; Within the last few days it has fallen apart. I have added nothing new. I boot it on and all seems well. I can run an app, work in it and then close it. Then the mouse freezes or slows to a crawl. I can not open any thing else. I registered several DLL's such as urlmon.dll,etc. because of a Micrsoft fix listed elsewhere but this did not work. All spyware and virus checks have been negative. CTRL-ALT-Del gives me an error that the taskmgr.exe could not be initialized. Now the only way to shut down is to totally power off and if reboot I get the blue screen while the disk is checked and it is always negative
