I have a Dell laptop and since today, when i turn the computer on, it goes past the dell screen, then goes to the screen where it says "We apologize for the inconvenience" then gives me options of safe mode, with networking, with command prompt, Last known good configuration, or start it normally. No matter which option i pick, it just comes beck to the same screen.
View 14 RepliesI had some failure and have recovered everything and upgraded to SP2.However, now after the POST as we go to load windows it tells me tohighlight which O/S I want to use.I always take the first (Windows XP Home Edition) and it boots andoperates fine. However, the second choice is also Window XP HomeEdition and if I take it it tells me there is a disk hardware error and it cannot boot.

I just got a new motherboard and wanted to reformat one of my hard drives so I could actually get into Windows but when I boot from the disk the Windows Setup gives me no option to format or install Windows. It just starts loading files, then it restarts the computer. If I try to boot without the WinXP cd it starts to load windows then blue screens because I got a different motherboard than my hard drives are used to, even in safe mode it will crash and restart. The new motherboard I got is an ECS Elitegroup GF8200A Black Series, the old one is an ASRock ALive NF6G-VSTA. My processor is an AMD Phenom 9650, I have a 650 Watt PSU, an XFX GeForce 9600 GSO, and 4 GB of RAM. The HDD I am trying to reformat is an 80 gb Maxtor, my main is a 200 GB Seagate but I don't want to reformat that one because it has all of my things on it. Any help regarding either reformatting the one hard drive or making it possible for me to boot into Windows on my main hard drive to install the neessary drivers for this new motherboard.

I did a search for the boot file and found it and change the time to 3 seconds and deleted the second entry of XP. But still nothing changes and still has the otpion of booting to XP twice and counts down from 30. Maybe i change the wrong file. Does anyone know the exact file name and ext. to chang ethis option.

View 6 Replies View Related(1) When I start up my computer, I get a menu asking me to choose from either (a) Continuing to install XP or (b) Use 98. I don't want this menu, I just want to go straight to 98.
(2) When I choose the option to go to Windows 98, I get another menu (every time!) telling me to choose between NORMAL or SAFE MODE or a bunch of other options. I just always want to go into Windows 98 using NORMAL, I don't want to have to choose NORMAL every time.
(3) Once I get into Windows 98, I cannot shut it down without holding down the power button on the computer. If I choose the Shut Down option, it just restarts the computer. If I choose Restart it also restarts the computer. I can choose Standby and it will go into Standby mode, but I want to be able to shut down my computer.
(4) Internet Explorer is not displaying websites correctly. In addition other windows on the computer look funny. For example, all of the text on Yahoo's website looks too large, even though I set the text size to "Smallest". Also, if I open up any folder, the icons are all overlapping.
just formatted the hard drive and installed xp pro on a hp 533 computer.it had xp home on it originally.now when i boot up i get the option to start xp home or pro.how can i get it to just boot to xp pro and not even ask about xp home which is not on there anymore?

Recently I was experiencing a bit of slowness when playing a MMO, and I figured that perhaps this was a Windows update that wanted to install so I tried restarting the computer. At that time, I got a message (disappeared too quickly to remember) telling me that something was "dirty" and it performed so sort of cleaning on all my files. Afterwards, the taskbar and the start menu did not boot with windows. I attempted to restart it again but still the same. The boots take a longer than usual time and the icons on my desktop show up quite slowly. As well, every 5-10 I lose my active window as if a program is about to open, but nothing ever does.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Acer Veriton M410 UD5000P, 1 x AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ / 2.6 GHz ( Dual-Core ), 3 gibs DDR2 of ram and a sata 300 hd with win xp pro, I remove fom the msconfig startup all those utilities that acer installed to speed up the booting, plus some other tweaks, the partitions from factory came as FAT32, and Norton internet security is installed for 60 days, i am wondering if the delay is cause maybe Norton is checking during boot time or cause the the file system is fat32, any opinion is vey appreciated in orde to speed the boot time, by the way, I don't now if i should remove the register keys related with those utilities that are not any longer on the startup

Pressed F6 and installed sata drivers for the mobo etc. Now i hastento add that i have tried this 3 times now, set up runs smoothly windowsinstalls however when i have finished windows will only boot up withthe CD in the CDROM. Been into Bios and changed boot sequence but stillif no CD it just gets to boot from cd in the boot up screen and stops,put the disk in and windows boots straight up and away we go.

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
i was having the windows 7 then i install windows xp sp2. the windows xp hide the windows 7. now system boots only on windows xp. it does not show the option for operating system and start the windowx xp. now how could i get both the operating system without formating again
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my System from P3 to P4, also added a new 120GB SATA Hard Drive which I kept as a Primary Master.I also attached my old 40GB IDE hard drive which is the secondary master. I had installed Windows XP Pro on the IDE HDD and now have installed the same O.S. on the new drive also. In my old system which also had two hard drives (both IDE drives) I used to get a boot option. But with the SATA + IDE combination the boot option has disappeared and it boots directly from the SATA Drive.

My son's computer has Windows 2000. It keeps starting over and over. It will only get to the Windows 2000 screen and then it restarts. It does this constantly. It won't even get to the desk top screen.
