i was using both window 7 and xp but now i have deleted the drive containing window 7 but still when i turn on my laptop there comes two options to start either window 7 or xp. so how can i delete the option to start window 7

View 3 Replies View Relatedi had Win xp sp2 on my hard-drive i installed windows 98 on my remove-able disk... after that i formatted my removeable disk now i just have Win xp but when start up it still shows the os choice menu. I just want to know can i delete that option of choosing win98 which doesn't exist. And so i can save 30 sec of booting time in case my pc reboots after an update or so when i am not around.

View 14 Replies View Related(1) When I start up my computer, I get a menu asking me to choose from either (a) Continuing to install XP or (b) Use 98. I don't want this menu, I just want to go straight to 98.
(2) When I choose the option to go to Windows 98, I get another menu (every time!) telling me to choose between NORMAL or SAFE MODE or a bunch of other options. I just always want to go into Windows 98 using NORMAL, I don't want to have to choose NORMAL every time.
(3) Once I get into Windows 98, I cannot shut it down without holding down the power button on the computer. If I choose the Shut Down option, it just restarts the computer. If I choose Restart it also restarts the computer. I can choose Standby and it will go into Standby mode, but I want to be able to shut down my computer.
(4) Internet Explorer is not displaying websites correctly. In addition other windows on the computer look funny. For example, all of the text on Yahoo's website looks too large, even though I set the text size to "Smallest". Also, if I open up any folder, the icons are all overlapping.
just formatted the hard drive and installed xp pro on a hp 533 computer.it had xp home on it originally.now when i boot up i get the option to start xp home or pro.how can i get it to just boot to xp pro and not even ask about xp home which is not on there anymore?

Lots of things were deleted, but the shutdown option is still missing. I have not been able to shut my laptop down for two days.

When I put a dvd in the dvd-player for a game or anything, it used to autostart that dvd. But suddenly, it doesn't autostart anymore. I have to start it manually, by clicking the drive and choosing "autorun". It is the same for other drives as well, such as cd-rom drive. How do I fix this?if it's possible, I would like not to install any programs. So are there any configurations or properties I can check?

Recently noticed that when I left-click on any of the icons of the Hard-disk drives and/or Devices with Removable Storage within 'My Computer', the 'Search' Option opens up by default instead of the 'Open' option, like in other folders. Likewise, when I right-click on the said icons, the 'Search' option is topmost & the 'Open' option has been relegated to second position. I would like the Search option to come first. Can't remember whether this was so from before or changed recently.
I have used Norton Partition Magic 8 recently to resize my partitions.
Lost a program I used to delete commands in my start run . I know I can do it in the registry but this was a nifty little program that let you pick the ones you wanted to delete . Anyone know the name and place to dpwnload such a program ?

It starts to delete but it realy does not start then like 5 or so mins later ill get the pop-up "do you want to delete this file" then i click ok and it will start to delete then. View 4 Replies View RelatedI didn't find an existing thread to the topic, so i apologize if the question has already been answered. at one point in time i had a mahjongg game installed on my windows xp run pc. i placed a shortcut on the start menu (above the frequent programs list). somehow or other, the shortcut was not removed when i uninstalled the program. my attempts to get rid of it since then are as follows:
1. when i right click on the icon, and select "remove from this list", nothing happens.
2. i attempt to run the shortcut and it says "the item you selected is not available. it might have been moved, renamed, or removed. do you want to remove it from the list?" i select yes, and nothing happens.
3. i attempt to rename the shortcut and it says "cannot rename file: cannot read from the source file or disk."
4. i open the properties and there is a message in the target type field saying "this is not a valid shortcut". i cannot change any of the fields without getting the error message in #3.
5. reinstalling the game doesn't change anything. i get the same error messages as above.
6. i searched through the registry for anything named "mahjongg", and it doesn't turn anything up.
I have a basic problem with many programs running at start up, how do I stop the ones I don't want to run automatically?

Netzero is constantly downloading ads that show up when I go to log on. Now the ads are using audio which is even more annoying. Anyway, I found out where the files are kept and I know the names. I'd like to write a file that auto exe's when I turn on or off the computer. It would also be nice to have a function key that would operate the auto delete. Any ideas on how to make this work?

If you load a program in the start menu? startup folder? upon re-boot it will not start the selected program. My question is how do I delete the? startup?folder in my start menu? I am trying to delete mp3 from my c drive because I have an external disk where I have my music library. I can delete them one at a time without getting the error message but not a bunch of them. Some of them I have been able to delete in a bunch.
