I don't have any other Firewalls installed or any other Antivirus apart from AVG 8, but did have an infection with Anti Virus XP 2008. I can turn on the XP Firewall, but when I restart, it registers that no firewall
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was reinstalling windows xp home and it stayed in the same position for like an hour, so I had no choice but to either restart or turnoff. I did this and now I can even boot past the logo screen. I have tried inserting XP home disk but it does not have any previous version installed and only has the option to format the drive. GRR I tried safe mode, vga, last known config but all dont work . It seems that Windows/system32/config/system.log is the file (also get blue screen of death after trying recovery console, but hard drive is still in tact. Fortunately I have backed up most of my system. I would still like to get it back though. I havent got any servie packs so I cant turn of 'disable automatic restart..'

To turn off my pc,i usually click on start in the taskbar,then the options to stand-by,turn off or restart appear,I then click on turn off,and the pc does the rest,it turns the pc off and the monitor. Now when i go through the process of turning it off, i do everything as described above,but instead of shutting off,it just acts as if i did nothing,i am left staring at the desktop and can just continue to use it as normal.So i have come to the conclusion that some sort of virus or something (i am doing a virus sweep as i am writting) has turned off the auto shutdown function,What i'd really love to know is can anyone tell me how i can turn this feature back on,i also forgot to add,that u cannot log off either,the same thing happens.

Having problems with my Windows XP Pro (SP2) as when I go to "Turn off computer" (on the Start menu) and select "Switch Off" or "Restart" I lose the normal screens and it saves my settings but then gets to "Closing Windows" and then it sticks. Ctrl-Alt-Delete does nothing.

Unfortunately, I've made a LOT of changes in the past few days (new programs, a system restore, windows registry cleanup, startup configuration changes, etc.) so I have no idea what caused this.

So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. The higher watts didn't doanything. I am lost without my computer can anyone help? I have Win XP..Could it be the fan? When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

So i did a little researching and figured out that no virus remover will be able to remove it since windows wouldn't allow me to delete or remove it in the first place.Thus the alternate method being the turning off of the system restore function and thereby deleting all system restore points. Although i came across a roadblock in that even though i am the administrator on my computer i am unable to check or uncheck the turn of system restore option in the system restore tab in the properties of My Computer.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI Installed Windows XP profesional 64 SP1,fresh Install, all was going Ok , the partitions were done ok , I made the boot floopy disc cuz it is a new System and formated the hard drive I installed drivers for the system ,but i noticed I was no getting sound since the staRT I though i was goin to be able to fix it forward as I was going trough the drivers etc. I opened Device Manager and saw I ther was a device with trouble,was the "MicrosoftUAA drivers for High Definition Audio" ok so I update drivers and Instal drivers from Motherboard disc . XP profesional was working OK Installed with no troubles , so when i read the "REBOOT for Changes so drivers came in efect ,OK so turn off the computerthen I decide install the new video card Ati Radeon PCi -E in that instance

I can't go into safe mode or anything, it'll just do the same thing again. I've written the error code and it is 0x000000ED (0x84340E30, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) the problem is that i don't have my recovery disks or anything like that when i got it, but I do have this boot cd called ultimate boot cd which i got from timatebootcd.com, this will allow me to wipe out my hard drive but im just unsure if that will fix the problem.
