Installation Operating System - Disc Fails To Recognize SATA Hard Drives

Aug 5, 2009

I've got this old mobo Abit VT7. I want to install XP on it. However, the XP disc doesn't recognize SATA hard drives. So I downloaded official SATA driver from the Abit website http://tinyurl.com/kua5qz and tries to slipstream my XP disc following the instructions set forth here http://tinyurl.com/37anvn . I am not too clear how to incorporate the drivers from the official drivers, but Nlite seems to be able to find the drivers once I pointed it to the top unzipped driver directory, and I selected the XP folder for it. However, the newly created XP disc still fails to recognize the SATA hard drives. Alternatively, I believe I could have a boot floppy which would load the drivers in, then I launch the setup in the XP installation CD via command line. But I don't know how to create a boot disc which has those SATA drivers in.

Computer Won't Recognize Hard Drives - "Tuff Test", Running At Boot Up

May 19, 2007

The Dell 8250 Pentium IV computer will not recognize the new master 160 GHZ or the origional, now slave, 40 GHZ, Hard drives. All the connections and jumpers are installed correctly. I tried a new motherboard and a new cable, both did not resolve this problem. Even ran a diagnostic program called "Tuff Test", running at boot up and the RAM and all other items checked OK, showing all working properly. The BIOS, now set to boot up correctly, off the proper drive, seems to recognize both removable drives and the floppy, but not the hard drives.
When I received the computer it was password protected. after asking and waiting for a week, with no response, I therefore, in safe mode, entered the BIOS and chose for it to boot off of the CD Rw that I thought was the proper and shut the Hard Drive off. Here the CD RW was a slave and not the master. No luck in installing the OS. I bought a new 160 GHZ HD with the thought that I could load the OS, again no luck. I replaced the battery and tried again with no luck.

Two Hard Disc System - Crashes Boot Reports System Failure

Jul 17, 2005

I have a 2 hard disc system, Windows XP pro and most programmes run from the C Drive. A few, plus all my data run from the F drive. Over the last few days I have encountered a massive slowdown in getting the computer started - form certainly less than 5 minutes to over 20 minutes. I have not added anything to the autoruns at all.

Programmes and data (eg music) run fine if they are on the F drive, but if they are on the C drive they run incredibly slowly so music is fragmented and at times its like trying to wade through treacle to get anything done. I have been getting crashes of the PC with a message about a kernel problem... but haven't yet copied all the data from that to get the detail. When it crashes the next boot reports a disc boot system failure, when i reboot ahgain it loads up but painfully slowly. The C drive was defraggged just afew weeks ago. I'm thinking the drive is about to pack up....

Optical Drives Not Recognize

Nov 14, 2005

I have a problem with one of the XP Versions on a hard drive. The problem started when my C: drive crashed. I replaced the drive and restored from the back-up I have. Since the new drive is larger than I care to use as a boot drive, the drive is partitioned. The restored back-up has is in the primary partition of the master drive. During the restore the OS stopped recognizing the optical drives(to complete the restore I used the second OS created in the second partition to copy the XP CD onto a partition of the hard drive I use for back-up. This drive is in a drive cradle). I have a CD reader/burner; a DVD reader in the tower; and a DVD burner in a USB2 drive cradle, none of these are recognized in the restored OS. In the process of trying to resolve this problem I installed a second version of XP in the second partition, this version recognizes all of the drives.

Won't Recognize One Of My Hard Drives Connected By USB

Apr 26, 2007

I have a computer running Windows XP PRO SP2 with 2, 250gb hard drives. The operating system and programs are on the C drive and the second drive which is removable is supposed to be for my data, but Windows doesn't recognize it so I can't use it. Right now I have my data on an external hard drive, connected by USB.

The second hard drive is new from my manufacturer (I have a custom computer and this is a replacement hard drive--the original was faulty) and I haven't put anything on it yet. When I first put it in my machine, I was able to see it in "My Computer". The next day when I was ready to start copying my data over, it was nowhere to be found. I turned off the machine, pulled out the drive and put it back and rebooted--still no show.

Computer Doesn't Recognize Extra Hard Drives

The other two are nowhere to be found.I've tried mapping to them, but they just don't show up there as a mapping option.Anyone have any advice? When I added the extra hard drives I didn't have an available slot and did have to create a partition. I no longer have the software I had originally used though. Do I need it to make the 2 other drives visable?

Boot - System Partitions Placed On Separate Drives

Jan 6, 2007

Now I cannot boot without the 120GB plugged in (tried unplugging the drive and booting and it said the it was Unable to boot from disk or something). I eventually deleted the partition on the old drive in setup and then canceled setup, and I still couldn't boot. So I reinstalled winXP on the old drive and now it boots fine. Of course what I have to do is reinstall XP with the drive unplugged, but do I have to completely redo everything, or can I somehow reinstall without starting from scratch? I've tried using the setup disk in windows with the drive unplugged (I know it isn't safe to unplug drives with the computer running but I had run out of ideas), but it said that it couldn't reinstall windows because there was no valid System Partition (which is on the other drive.

However, it appers as the "system" drive, while the new HD (E) appears as "boot". BIOS Update Procedure - Doesn't Recognize Hard Drives

I expected that it would only be recognized as 137 GB, but I can't explain why it only sees 75 GB. I suspect that the BIOS needs to be updated, but I've never done this before so I was looking for a procedure and ideas for trying to find the latest BIOS online.
