My Laptop running on windows XP Home just fails to boot up. It also does not start in the Safe Mode, (system freezes).When I tried to boot using the Recovery CD, the system just shuts itself down. If I try using the CD to boot, it simply shuts down after a few minutes.
Ran smitfraud and rebooted but my computer keeps freezing both in safe mode and normal. I tried last good configuration but the same thing happened. Either just a black screen with the mouse icon or frozen on the long list.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am working on a Dell GX280 which had issues with its heatsink. Also, at the same time the machine continues to not boot up. It freezes at the Windows XP logo screen. It will not go any further. We think that when the fan started racing the user got worried, pulled the power cord and maybe did damage.However Im still working on fixing it. I can boot up into safe mode, I have disabled all non microsoft items in services and all items in start up and I continue to have the same problem, freezing at start up.

While i have been playing a game my screen would freeze and black out, or just suddently black out.so i would have to shut it off through the back switch. this was happening for about a week. This problem happened again last night only this time it wont let me boot back into windows. it will boot up to the windows logo loading screen and restart, after this restart it will tell me windows did not boot properly and ask to continue with safe mode with networking, and console.(still rebooted with all choices) and windows normaly (rebooted) and windows with last safest configuration (still rebooted). occasionaly it will get to scandisk, after the scandisk it will lock up or reboot, if it gets passed scandisk without rebooting it gives me a blue screen
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt goes to window loading screen, black screen with window logo, and in middle of that screen it shuts off and reboot I was successfully able to boot in to safe mode but even after going back to system recovery points it fail to work properly. I have boot from windox xp cd and went to recovery command and have recovered boot files and still fails to work... Repairing window installation from installation window of window cd isn't an option for me because obviously window cd doesn't work well with wubi boot setting.

This morning I attempted to boot the machine as usual, and I found that windows would not boot after repeated attempts in any mode. I borrowed a friends windows XP cd, i dont have mine on hand, and attempted to repair the installation. However, when it tried to copy files to the hard drive it said that it could not detect it.
Naturally, seeing this i assumed that the harddrive had gotten knocked around, bad power lead, etc. I made sure that the connecters were securely attached and booted again, repair etc, same problem. I believe that the problem lies with the configuration of using a PCI card to connect the hard drive to the motherboard. When its connected to the mother board, however, the boot agent wont run, saying that the "disk is not ready" or something to that extent.
Powers on to the normal blue screen. Black screen comes up that says We apologize for the inconvience...etc. etc. windows did not shut down normally and gives the option for last know good configeration, start windows normally, safe mode, etc. Tried them all and it just goes back to the normal blue screen and back to We apologize for the inconvience. F10 system recovery does the same thing.I would like to be able to fix this and not lose any of the information I have on my hard drive. I did a total back-up about 7 months ago (13 DVDs worth) and do have some backup through Norton 360

I ticked safemode under boot.ini in msconfig and my computer restarted, but only got as far as the Windows XP loadup page before rebooting itself. I have tried 'last known good configuration' etc, but to no avail... the computer simpl will not get past this point. I decided to reinstall (repair) Windows XP, but unfortunately, I cannot do this because it reaches a screen where it says setup cannot complete under safe mode. I can't turn this safemode off though, because I can't get the computer on to reaccess boot.ini.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA guy in the office was transferring images from his digital camera to his PC when the screen froze. He now can't start up his OS unless in safe mode. I've tried "last known good configuration", used an old restore point, checked for clashes in Device Manager, done a diagnostic startup using msconfig and still no joy. The machine is out of warranty and we can't find the recovery disks anywhere. Also, because the software was preinstalled there's no original disc to do an XP repair job on it. What more can I try?

Instead of doing the smart thing and clicking "delete" or "quarantine" she STUPIDLY clicked "ignore".When I went back and tried to log on later, the XP login screen won't take my password. It keeps insisting that it's wrong. I tried to log in on Safe Mode and access the Administrator account but whole system rebooted as soon as I clicked on it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedMy main pc is stuck in a boot cycle giving me the black screen with options to start in safe mode etc etc and when selecting one of those options it reboots to the same point. When I press return the system tries to start it attempts it, clicks then goes back to boot cycle. The Windows XP system disk won't cut in like it should so I cannot gain control of the pc.
System is a Dell, 2years old and has had various viruses despite having the usual protection. I am currently using my old trusty Advent Pentium 3 for this message (which has never had the same degree of virus prob's curiously). After the first virus Dell talked me through using Ghost - brilliant. Within a couple of days it was hit again and usinng Spybot got rid of the virus but PC kept displaying the message rundll.dll file damaged. So I used XP Recovery seemingly with no problem only to find it won't reboot.
So i turn on my computer and it tells me one of my system32 files is currupt and so i couldnt start windows so i put in my xp cd and repair the files and after it did that...it just kept retartsting over and over....then it went to the screen where it says windows could not load properly and this maybe because of a hardware of software change. So i tired "Start Windows Normally" and it still didnt work and now I am on "Safe Mode with Networking"
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i boot up, i can sometimes get to the desktop, then i hear a click from my tower and everything is frozen. all fans are still running. and power is still on.i've tried a clean install of windows to no avail. this happens everytime , but the freeze can happen before i get to the desktop and also in safe mode.
seems to be a hardware issue. i may be able to get a friends graphics card to see if that is the problem
I booted up my computer 3 days ago and logged in under my user name, and there were no desktop icons or taskbar, so I restarted my computer and tried every user, still nothing. I went to msconfig to restore it to a earlier point, and when it restarted I went to my user name, and still nothing so I went to msconfig again and booted it up in safe mode, when it restarted, right before the user names screen came up, a black screen with "SAFE MODE" in all four corners pops up for about 3 or 4 seconds, then the user name screen comes up with the ADMIN and the rest of the user names, it doesn't matter what name I log in as it always goes to the same black Safe Mode screen as before but it will freeze there forever. So I had to manually shut it down. When it restarted I hit F8 to get it out of safe mode and chose restart computer normally, then when it restarts the same exact thing thing happens. I've tried every option at the F8 selection screen. So I put in a cd with Mepis Linux on it that my cousin gave me, but I didn't install it I have been running it off the disk. And I have no clue what to do next.

Around a month ago I had some odd problems where the system would lock up when I ran the anti virus and explorer.exe would crash. Despite me trying numerous suggestions from eggxperts in a different thread, this issue seemed to go away by itself.
After a few weeks of moderate to heavy use (3 hour gaming sessions) with no issues at all, I all of sudden would get BSOD's immediately after boot up (this happened on two occasions, one shortly after the other). I did a system restore both times and that seemed to do the trick.

Well, Ive tried reinstalling XP 3 times. This third time, after a clean installation, I realized that Safe Mode works fine after 500 errors are thrown at me. I have always stayed up to date with my Windows updates deleting cookies, defrags and so on. I am running Avast anti virus and Armor 2 Net firewall. I have noticed over a period of about a mth that my system has been getting pretty slow to boot up and load up web pages. Now I am having to manually start my PC and I have to do it in safe mode F8 and click on debugging mode. If I don't do it this way then everything loads up and then my PC just turns itself off. I have PC doctor and I have done a complete diagnostic test and I have gone to antivirus.com and did a virus scan there as well as with my Avast. I am thinking that I may have to totally take everything out and reinstall everything back in. The only thing is -is that I don't know what to type in to get the whole thing going. Also I have been getting a message but only sometimes that says RTL cannot locate HPOIPMO7.exe (HPOIMO7.exe) I haven't a clue what this is. Might it have anything to do with what is going on. I don't mean to write a book here but there is one other thing, the other day I had a window pop up that said that windows needed me to reinstall my xp software and when I tried it said that the version that I was already running was newer than the cd software I was trying to install and wouldn't accept it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAn infinite loop it seems. i was trying to start my pc in safe mode, to delete a .exe file from C:WindowsSystem32 which was suggested by a post to fix the "windows not genuine problem". To be able to do that, i ran msconfig and selected /safeboot under BOOT.INI tab. now everytime i try to reboot my pc it asks me to select an operating system (windows xp pro/microsft windows) if i select windows xp then it asks me to select a startup mode (safe/normal/last successful) and then no matter what i select it will reboot it self, and do the same again. If i select microsoft windows (instead of xp) then it shows MS Windows 98 screen and then goes into DOS prompt. from what i have read in some of the threads is that, i have a virus which is preventing my pc to boot in to safe mode, and because i have selected /safeboot from msconfig windows will only boot in safe mode, meaning i am stuck. the workaround these threads were suggesting was to find the boot.ini file and rename it to something else, which would fix the problem, because this file holds the info about in which mode your pc should boot. i tried to rename this file from command prompt (i cant get into windows, thats why), using "ren c:oot.ini boot.ini" but it says file name invalid. i think this is because its a hidden file. then i tried "attrib -h boot.ini", but it says attrib cannot be used in DOS mode.
View 10 Replies View RelatedComputer restarts before login screen unless I interupt boot to choose debugging mode (or set it using msconfig). I've disabled everything in msconfig with no change. I've removed all hardward except the minimum. No change. The error I get if I prevent auto restart during boot is a "Multiple_IRP_Complete_Requests) error. This problem started without anything being installed or removed. If I go in to the BIOS and disable ANY devices (i.e. sound), then the Debugging mode trick to get the computer started doesn't work which seems backwards.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI went into MSCONFIG and checked the box to go into safe mode so i could run some virus scans and adware scans and stuff like that. Now when it gets to the desktop it has the window that says Loading Windows and then after like 2-3 min. it says password is incorrect and that i should retype it and becarefull of caps lock and stuff like that. The thing is don't have a password. It does this when i boot normally too but it lets me hit ok and hit Cancel without a password entered.
All of a sudden it tries logging me in automatically when I start up but the thing is i dont need to log in. So I try to go back into normal mode and Ican't. I hit F8 during startup and went to the Boot Normally option but it still does to safe mode. What do I do? How do I log on or how do I get rid of this password thing? One more thing, the window that tells me the password is wrong has an OK box but theres no mouse on the screen for me to click it and I can't use the keyboard to select it.
I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work

The basics: XP Professional Boot up screen, right before the windows loading screen, or direct after the F8 Menu if you hit "Start Windows Normally..." it will just lock up, no HDD activity, blank screen. now BSOD, nothing.
All 3 safe mods work fine.
Ran chkdsk /r in recovery.
Ran proper fixboot procedure.
Went into safe mode and checked the event viewer.
The only concerning message i got was: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
AmdK8
Fips
nod32drv
Formatting really isnt an issue since i can back up anything i need through safe mode. However its just the fact that the Windows gremlin has struck me again and i must defeat it once more.
I highly doubt this is a hardware issue as it is more of a driver/software issue.any help?
It never would start windows normal but would in safe mode,so now i did a diskcheck and restarted now it gets hung up on the system32driversagp440.sys...at least thats the last one that pops up before it freezes.
