This morning my stepmother checked her emails on my laptop (XP Home) and while she was doing it, a virus warning popped up from my Virus checker. Instead of doing the smart thing and clicking "delete" or "quarantine" she STUPIDLY clicked "ignore".When I went back and tried to log on later, the XP login screen won't take my password. It keeps insisting that it's wrong. I tried to log in on Safe Mode and access the Administrator account but whole system rebooted as soon as I clicked on it.
Went into msconfig and set up safe boot on restart.PC will not load in safe mode or in normal mode it just keeps looping back to the same screen.I have tried all the options on the screen. Is their anyway to get back to msconfig.I have the XP setup disk.
A guy in the office was transferring images from his digital camera to his PC when the screen froze. He now can't start up his OS unless in safe mode. I've tried "last known good configuration", used an old restore point, checked for clashes in Device Manager, done a diagnostic startup using msconfig and still no joy. The machine is out of warranty and we can't find the recovery disks anywhere. Also, because the software was preinstalled there's no original disc to do an XP repair job on it. What more can I try?
One of my kids ran my laptop until it died and now when i try to start it up it goes to the Window XP screen with the progress bar going side to side and stops there. I can start the computer under safe mode which i'm doing now but when i try to restart it does the same thing and i need to start under safemode again.
Just the other day i reset my computer but to my surprise it did not load up XP, instead it stayed with a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left hand corner. I thought it meant it was taking longer to load but it is just stuck there and i can't access my files!
So i turn on my computer and it tells me one of my system32 files is currupt and so i couldnt start windows so i put in my xp cd and repair the files and after it did that...it just kept retartsting over and over....then it went to the screen where it says windows could not load properly and this maybe because of a hardware of software change. So i tired "Start Windows Normally" and it still didnt work and now I am on "Safe Mode with Networking"
My Laptop running on windows XP Home just fails to boot up. It also does not start in the Safe Mode, (system freezes). When I tried to boot using the Recovery CD, the system just shuts itself down. If I try using the CD to boot, it simply shuts down after a few minutes.
I am working on a Dell GX280 which had issues with its heatsink. Also, at the same time the machine continues to not boot up. It freezes at the Windows XP logo screen. It will not go any further. We think that when the fan started racing the user got worried, pulled the power cord and maybe did damage. However Im still working on fixing it. I can boot up into safe mode, I have disabled all non microsoft items in services and all items in start up and I continue to have the same problem, freezing at start up.
I have an older somputer I use to Host Games online...seemed fine last few nite .however the last 2 oe 3 times I have started it...it takes forever to start and a screen appears saying sorry for any inconveinince but windows could not start..etc etc..gives options to start in Normal mode safe mode or last known good configuration..wich is what I tried after turning it off and back on again..still nothing..I can get it to start in safe mode....but it wont boot up in normal mode..just hangs at "Windows XP" screen...Its an older Pentium4 Dell Dimension4300.
this is the best way I know to explain all of this. I am running a 3 yr old Gateway with Windows xp and Sp 1 & 2. I have always stayed up to date with my Windows updates deleting cookies, defrags and so on. I am running Avast anti virus and Armor 2 Net firewall. I have noticed over a period of about a mth that my system has been getting pretty slow to boot up and load up web pages. Now I am having to manually start my PC and I have to do it in safe mode F8 and click on debugging mode. If I don't do it this way then everything loads up and then my PC just turns itself off. I have PC doctor and I have done a complete diagnostic test and I have gone to antivirus.com and did a virus scan there as well as with my Avast. I am thinking that I may have to totally take everything out and reinstall everything back in. The only thing is -is that I don't know what to type in to get the whole thing going. Also I have been getting a message but only sometimes that says RTL cannot locate HPOIPMO7.exe (HPOIMO7.exe) I haven't a clue what this is. Might it have anything to do with what is going on. I don't mean to write a book here but there is one other thing, the other day I had a window pop up that said that windows needed me to reinstall my xp software and when I tried it said that the version that I was already running was newer than the cd software I was trying to install and wouldn't accept it.
An infinite loop it seems. i was trying to start my pc in safe mode, to delete a .exe file from C:WindowsSystem32 which was suggested by a post to fix the "windows not genuine problem". To be able to do that, i ran msconfig and selected /safeboot under BOOT.INI tab. now everytime i try to reboot my pc it asks me to select an operating system (windows xp pro/microsft windows) if i select windows xp then it asks me to select a startup mode (safe/normal/last successful) and then no matter what i select it will reboot it self, and do the same again. If i select microsoft windows (instead of xp) then it shows MS Windows 98 screen and then goes into DOS prompt. from what i have read in some of the threads is that, i have a virus which is preventing my pc to boot in to safe mode, and because i have selected /safeboot from msconfig windows will only boot in safe mode, meaning i am stuck. the workaround these threads were suggesting was to find the boot.ini file and rename it to something else, which would fix the problem, because this file holds the info about in which mode your pc should boot. i tried to rename this file from command prompt (i cant get into windows, thats why), using "ren c:oot.ini boot.ini" but it says file name invalid. i think this is because its a hidden file. then i tried "attrib -h boot.ini", but it says attrib cannot be used in DOS mode.
Computer restarts before login screen unless I interupt boot to choose debugging mode (or set it using msconfig). I've disabled everything in msconfig with no change. I've removed all hardward except the minimum. No change. The error I get if I prevent auto restart during boot is a "Multiple_IRP_Complete_Requests) error. This problem started without anything being installed or removed. If I go in to the BIOS and disable ANY devices (i.e. sound), then the Debugging mode trick to get the computer started doesn't work which seems backwards.
I recieved the following message after a forced restart after windows updates were installed: "We are sorry for any inconvenience but Windows was unable to start successfully" My options are to start in Safe Mode , Last known config or normal. Safe Mode is the only thing that works. Also System Restore would not work Also System Recovery from Sony Vaio Recovery Wizard would not work
It never would start windows normal but would in safe mode,so now i did a diskcheck and restarted now it gets hung up on the system32driversagp440.sys...at least thats the last one that pops up before it freezes.
Ran smitfraud and rebooted but my computer keeps freezing both in safe mode and normal. I tried last good configuration but the same thing happened. Either just a black screen with the mouse icon or frozen on the long list.
stop working was a Microsoft update error or i deleted something wrong using regseeker. I had to install another system but i want to use my old windows media version. Every time i try to use my old system it automatically boots on safe mode. I press F8 on when i'm booting up and press run windows normally but it still runs in safe mode. I can't do anything. I tried checking the disk for errors and nothing helped. I tried too restore my system right after the system failure but for some reason there were no restore points. I took some screen shots of the 1st few system and application errors shown in the event viewer.
I have been trying to get a game to run on my computer, while attempting to do this I stupidly shutdown some tasks and then my computer shutdown. When I tried to restart it, I got a screen to say do I want to start in safe mode or normally or whatever. If I want to start in safemode it tells me to use the arrow keys but when I attempt to use them they don't work. It does a bit of a countdown and then trys to start in normal windows mode but it can't.
I woke up this morning and my pc won't start. It just keeps rebooting and taking me to the safe mode startup menu. I tried starting normally and it just reboots. I have been able to start in safe mode with networking as well as just safe mode.
My laptop is not working at all It's a Dell with windows xp When you switch it on, the start button doesn't work, and neither do any of the desktop icons Only the task manager works nothing else. And also, how do you start a computer in safe mode, And will that help
My computer, when started up in normal mode, just goes to a blank red screen....no icons, no nothing. The only way you can get anything to work in normal mode is by way of the task manager. In safe mode, however, I have access to everything except for sound. I have gone through the Microsoft website and ran all of the virus tests and scans. They say they find things and that they have removed them, but after restarting, it's the same old thing!! I'm pretty sure it's some sort of virus
I know a bit about computers but i ain't the best an ain't bragging. But i know a problem when i have one. I wanted to get into safe mode in windows but cant. I press f8 then select my operating system then the drivers start to load windows in safe mode. The problem i get is it hangs on one driver, so I'm thinking this driver could be missing or is corrupt. I have run chkdsk an have use the options to fix all errors but windows still wont start in safe mode. I checked for Virus and Spy-ware but still no joy. Also if this driver is missing or corrupt i cant replace it because i cant get into safe mode. I have also tried the sfc /scannow in cmd but keep getting the message please insert windows xp disk in CD drive D:
I got this message in the dreadful blue page this morning when starting my laptop (Acer), running WinXP Home. It does not respond when trying to start (F8) in safe mode etc. What should I do? I am not really tech-savy..I also cannot explain why this thing happened. Is this a virus/malware? it happened after i connected an external hard disk of a friend to my laptop last night. My girlfreind's laptop had exaclty the same thing when restarting last night...both laptops with the same error message above.
The problem is that windows freezes on a blank screen after the Loading windows screen. There were about 10 viruses on the computer, they have since been removed remotely. They included trojans, spyware and adware, and also W32.Conycspa.G@mm. However the computer can still only be booted in safe mode.
Right now I'm trying to fix a computer that recently became effected with the "Anitvirus XP 2008" virus. Its gotten so bad that we can't get onto the desktop, and when we press "f8" to start safe mode, the option will come up, but when we click "start in safe mode" the computer restarts itself. It's done this every time. I was digging around on the internet and I found something that said that I have to make a bootable cd. Is this right?
This all started in the "98 Forum" I had 98 and would only start in Safe Mode. I seemed to have fixed that. Then I tried to install XP. I unistalled the whole Battery Scope deal from Safe Mode. Then I restarted. It started in Normal Mode and stated it was going to re-install the Battery Scope. Then it worked just fine. Then I started getting cute. Instead of leaving it as is, I tried to install windows XP:I have got past the part with the Serial Number and I am now at the actual installation. It has completed "Collecting Information," "Dynamic Update," and "Preparing Installation."
i am working on a friends computer .she installed a program and all was ok after that . she turned off the computer and went on holiday for a week . came back started the computer and received an error message "Windows cannot start " if windows doesnt start normally . windows will restart " a mesage similiar tothis ..and she receives the same message everytime .. ( she isnt available ATM for me to get hte exact error msg ) i have tried to get into safe mode to remove this program . but safe mode isnt available . i have tried F5 on start up . and safe mode isnt in the options ..& the same with F8 no option to enter windows in safe mode . what would anyone suggest to try next ?
I've tried several times to start in safe mode on XP. All of the guides I've referenced say F8 is the key. However, when I boot, the only functions I see on the screen that only lingers for a moment are F10 and esc.I've tried the tapping method also. Nothing.I'm talking about an hp notebook
i hope this is in the right forum, but anyways ive had this problem for a while, i cant start my computer, when u turn the computer on it loads up the Emachines screen then the screen goes black then the computer turns itself off and on again and does it again, ive tried the restore cds and they dont seem to work says a few files are wrong or something, and also i cant seem to start it in safe mode,
I have a Great Quality ZX-3310 laptop. It recently froze up and would not reboot. I unplugged the machine and plugged it back in to restart and now I get either the windows start up page that freezez before it is loaded or I get this message: "RS482M- Test Bios BR#13207A". Sometimes I get nothing on the screen but I can hear the fan run. It will not let me start in Safe Mode. The DVD drive recognizes a DVD it there but it immediately freezes on start up.
I can only start my PC in safe mode as normal mode gives me the error message stated below each and everytime. I can not use the 'Last Good Configuration' mode as it gives me the same Blue Screen message. I safe mode it won't allow me to use System Restore as it tells me to restart my PC then use System Restore. I have not run out of hard disk space as I have 75Gb left on my hard drive. The only thing that I could imagine that could've created this problem is that I downloaded a few diagnostic programs including registry ones and wanted to clean up my PC. After I used the programmes I uninstalled them.
