View 12 RepliesEncountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

View 6 Replies View Related1) this pblm started after i did a reinstall of windows some time back. my system works fine now but for one thing. at every boot after its done post, the screen goes blank/dark/black for about 40 seconds, then a white progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen and only then does the windows logo with the blue progress bar appears. from then on its smooth sailing, a few seconds till the welcome screen and i'm in windows.2) this hasn't happen for a few weeks now. sometimes while in windows the pc reboots by itself but during post it wont recognize the hd. like nothing connected to the ide cable. fixed it by disconnecting/reconnecting the ide cable
View 12 Replies View RelatedLaptop new online so it came with Windows XP sp2 already installed. That I recall, it did not come with a disc or any included software. I've been having some major problems with my computer as of late and I'd just love to wipe the whole darn thing clean and reinstall everything, but I'm not sure if that's even an option if I don't have a disc. What other options do I have?

It says to reboot and start using my XP Pro and it still does not work. I have checked the BIOS and everything is right in it, i.e boot from CD. I for the life of me cannot format this drive so I can reload a fresh copy of XP PRO and all the updates, and then some other programs. I am pulling my hair out over this. View 7 Replies View RelatedLately my pc has experienced lots of different problems. It all started one day when I installed a program named xfire. It was running fine with xfire until I came home from school. Heres a list of the problems:
1. live messneger has forgot my email and runs slowly when i attempt to retype it.
2.Live messneger cannot connect at all. It just comes up with this message straight away
3. The copy of windows I'm running has been classed as an illegal copy by the microsoft website (my pc has a preinstalled installation of windows which was on when it was bought from a store).
4.Many installation programs now come up with errors about missing files.
5.I can't find any viruses with avast,ad-aware or spybot.
6. I uninstalled ie 7 which somehow allowed the normal windows messenger to work without the scripts errors I got before, but now I can't reinstall ie7. The setup always comes up with a missing file error.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.

This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
Received this message, Error Loading Operating System, when installing Windows xp pro? After loading the installation files from the CD, windows xp shuts down and reboots to continue loading a fresh install of Windows from the installation files onto the HD.Instead of loading the installation files an error message hangs the installation and reads Error Loading Operating System. The installation files are loaded, but Windows xp won't load up? Looked around the forums and searchs and no one had a definitive answer to solving this issue of Error Loading Operating System.
