I got back from class today and my computer was frozen. I forced a reboot. When it tries to load windows XP, I get an error message that says: Operating System Not Found Can/Should I load with the boot disks? I CAN NOT loose the info on my hard drive.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer tries to boot, it takes a while to detect anything from the CD-ROM (my first boot priority), and then when it detects the IDE, it says "error loading operating system" and after that I can't do anything but restart or shut down. I am running Windows XP Professional and it will load with a boot disk, but if I take out the boot disk it won't load.

(where box is actually a graphic rectangle charater)Second error message: Could not load or run 'box,box,box...' in the registry. Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry. This happens every time I start and I can click through to continue - but obviously something's off and I'd like to fix it. Though I'm not crazy about editing the registry, I'd do that to fix the problem, but I don't know what to search for.

Option is to click on OK, but right after message appears it will open the page and I can open all the other net links normally, but not internal pages until message is gone. I've re-installed Firefox. Only thing I haven't done is re-install windows.

View 11 Replies View RelatedCan someone tell me why, when I open a notepad file, whether from notepad or from Start Documents or what have you, I always get an error message: "Windows cannot find [file locationfilename.txt]. Make sure you type the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search." However, the file does open in notepad behind this error message and I am able to view it, edit it, etc.
I would like this error message not to appear every time (it is really just an annoyance to cancel it every time but after a couple of years I am tired of it) so I tried to find this answer in the archives but to no avail. However, I saw that it was recommended by more than one tech guy (or gal) to save a "hijack this" file in notepad, so I followed the instructions and did that just after my latest error message... The "hijack this" copy of the notepad file follows, and if you see anything else that I should make note of please let me know....
Ok I feel as if all i had is lost. I was playing a game and I rebooted my computer. When i went to start it it went to the a blank blue screen before the account screen in the beginning of XP . I know i can restore to new but i will have lost so much information that it would take about 3 months to retain it all back. It says it can not find operating system
View 1 Replies View RelatedI started to reformat an old laptop and made it through disc one of my recovery discs. I'm guessing one of my cats knocked the power cord out of the computer. The battery died before disc two could finish. Now when I turn it on it says it can't find the operating system. It was working perfectly fine prior to this, just really slow, and I can see the hard drive is still there through BIOS.

This computer has been starting up fine but if i walk away I comp back to :1962 no operating system found. Press f1 to repeat boot sequence and when I do that I get a weird graph and more errors. I don;t know where to start. If you advise how to get a log maybe that's where I should begin.

I wanted to install Linux to learn something new. I ran defrag and then went to do error checking on the disk ( C drive ) Halfway thru everything died. I got a message ' No operating system. I have the restore CD's ( 2 ) that came with the machine and tried to get them to boot the machine with no luck I never made an emergency boot disk. (I made the CD drive the boot drive ) I have a Ubuntu live CD but that would not boot either ( If I end up with only Linux w?o windows that's fine. )

I've been thinking about reformating the HD and reinstalling XP Pro. 2 questions: 1st is; if I back up my HD and then do a restore after reinstalling the os, won't I just restore the glitches I'm trying to get rid of? 2nd question; Since I've never done a reinstall and restore; will all my programs be restored just as if they have been installed (Drivers, programs, etc.); or do I have to reinstall all my programs and then do a restore so I get all the data that changed after they were installed?

I can't get anywhere into Windows, I've done F2, F8, F12, everything I could think of without risking more damage. I've booted from the system mechanic CD with the Hard Drive recovery, and while it said it found and fixed a problem, it didn't fix this one.

This is a six year old Sony, XP, AMD 1.0Ghz. Everything was working at the time I tried the System Recovery EXCEPT I was constantly getting low space messages for drive C. I have no files on this drive and very little software. It is a 20G hard drive partioned into two 10G partitions.
