View 6 RepliesHow difficult is the process of uninstalling XP on my old PC and reinstalling that same copy on my new one? I want to wait until the first service pack of Vista is out before upgrading. I've heard reinstalling XP on a new PC can cause problems but I don't see how it would if it's no longer on my old PC.

I've been having some major problems with my computer as of late and I'd just love to wipe the whole darn thing clean and reinstall everything, but I'm not sure if that's even an option if I don't have a disc. What other options do I have?

View 12 Replies View RelatedA fresh installation of windows xp. When I am having installed XP, then it comes to installing various software, is it necessary to allways do a reboot after each installatoin, even if the software does not request it. Most software does not seem to request it, is there any benefit in rebooting, or conversely can any damage possibly be done by not rebooting and then reinstalling another software without rebooting for the first one that doesn't specifically ask for it. My next question is this. If I use an image to restore my operating system, is this in any way of a lesser quality than if I do a manual installation using the installation xp disc.

I then checked System Properties and it said I was only using 251 MHz of 1400 MHz. I then installed the software called Speed Switch XP, and it got it boosted up to 599 MHz when it's on max performance. I'm now stuck there.
View 11 Replies View RelatedEncountered a Blue Screen of Death error. The error stated that I should run Chkdsk and then proceeds to restart and bring me to the Windows boot selection screen (safe mode, last known good configuration, normally). No matter which choice I pick, it always leads to the BSOD then restarts. Since this is getting me nowhere fast, I want to just format and reinstall windows. I do not have my recovery CDs, and when I enter the BIOS to change the boot sequence I cannot change it so the CD drive is above the hard drive in priority. The reason it gives me in the bios is that "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor. Any ideas on how I can boot off the cd and reinstall windows from scratch?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI shut off the computer and turning it back on couldn't boot up windows. It gave the windows wasn't shut down properly and I tried the normal restart option and it would just give a black screen with a blinking _ and then nothing happens. Tried loading in safe mode but it gets to mup.sys then "Press Esc to cancel SPTD.sys" flashes below and whether I press Esc or let it be, nothing happens after that.
I tried popping in the windows xp disc that came with the laptop, boot from disc, it starts up but then after loading everything, it then says "Windows is starting up" the disc stops spinning then nothing happens. I tried popping in a windows vista disc and it says "Windows is loading files" with a progress bar, when it fills up, I get stuck with a blank black screen the disc stops spinning and then nothing happens.
Some time ago I booted up my computer,to find that my XP switched to Windows classic style,I didn't take it seriously so I went to properties to change when I get an error message saying there is a problem with run32.dll,not only that, but the visual styles can't load I assume, becuase of run32.dll,so now I'm stuck with the piece of s*** style.

Everything appears to be fine.I log on to Windows Live OneCare to use their "Safety Scanner" to, as they say, check for PC health issues and optimize performance. Mind you, the site recommends users log on once a month for the full service scan. As you know, the scan includes the removal of what it refers to as invalid registry entries. "Oh boy," right? The registry. Except you'd like to believe the official Microsoft site won't screw up your programs.
