Increasing Virtual RAM
Apr 3, 2006
When I do alot of things on the computer, the PC freezes for a few seconds and a little bubble apears in the corner saying "Windows now increasing Virtual RAM", and I was wondering what this meant? Because I assume it means its using more of the physical ram I have, because according to my PC stats, I have 224MB of ram, which, by most logic is impossible.

I was wondering what is the best virtual memory setting that I should use for my laptop? The current performance option setup shows that I'm using 672 MB of virtual memory. Is it possible to increase this size? I have a large 60 GB HD which currently has 40 GB remaining. My laptop is running pretty smooth right now...I have all virus and spyware/malware applications installed which I run and keep updated on a frequent basis. I'm looking to squeeze as much performance as possible.

I am running Virtual PC 2007 on a Vista Platform. Everything is good with the exception of setting up shared folders. I have three guest PCs running. I have installed Virtual Machine Additions on all three. I am able to set up and access a shared folder on the host system on one of the three with no problem but the other two refuse to access any shared folder. When I configure the shared folder, it shows up in the guest PC under MyComputer, but it shows as "disconnected" and is inaccessible.

I'm have a Compaq Presario 2596US notebook running Windows XP.It uses DDR333 pc2700 sodimm. I had a 256mb and a 512mb chip installed, and had 768 total ram. I ordered a 1gb chip (transcend, from newegg), and the laptop won't recognize it.
I've tried running the 512 and the 1gb chip, the 256 and the 1gb chip, and the 1gb chip alone. With either of the smaller chips installed plus the 1gb chip, the system memory is equal to the smaller chip. With just the 1gb chip installed (tried both sockets), the laptop won't boo just spins out on the 'ol black screen of death

Have only tried this on XP Pro but it works great. Decreased my login time from 2mins to 15secs. Increased my network speed (ex. 170MB file took 15-20min. Now the same 170MB file takes less than 2mins). WOW!Here it is... Go into your network properties and then into your TCP/IP settings. Add your Server's IP address as Prefered DNS Server. Then select you Advanced button, go into your WINS tab and insert your Server's IP address for your WINS address as well. Reboot the system and you SHOULD see a difference. I have already tried this on several systems and have seen the same increase in speed

In life, the only way to succeed is to get your priorities straight. Well tough-luck, to all you slackers, the computer world ain't much different. Windows has setup a system controlled hiearchy which is notably called the Priority System. By increasing a programs priority, the task manager tells the system to pay more attention to it, by feeding it RAM and optimizing that program to use the system cache more effifiently. Lets explore into the wonderful world of priorities.1.)

I keep getting the error message that my Windows virtual memory minimum is too low. I have Microsoft Windows 2000 and the following settings: total paging file size 205 MB; minimum 2 MB; Recommended 190 MB; Currently allocated 205 MB; current registry size 21 I'm not the system administrator so I can't change these numbers. I also couldn't find the pagefile.sys that someone suggested looking for. My IT guys don't know what's wrong; they reformatted my computer but I got this error message again. What should I tell them to do?

why my Windowx XP sees only 1024 MB memory while I've increased the original memory of 512 MB by 2x 512 MB ?My motherboard has three DDR-slots. It had from the beginning a Kingston K 512MB PC2700 module in slot #1. This week I've added two Kingston K512 UDIMM 512MB PC2700 modules in the slots #2 and #3.All three modules has the type name KVR333X64C25/512, so I thought they would be compatible.

My OS is Windowns XP. Lately while on-line, I have been getting a "virtual memory is low" error message and then my computer either locks up or I am booted off AOL. Can you tell me what might cause this type error? I have noted added any new software in weeks. The last install was my IPOD Nano.

I don't understand virtual memory. I keep getting a message that I'm too low on virtual memory. Is it something that corrects itself? Also, I can't get anything on the disc cleaner. I've followed directions, but it shows up on the taskbar and I can't get it to open. I have Windows XP.

I've got a version of Nero that's not compatible with Vista and I've grown to really like, so I thought I'd install it on an XP virtual machine after I upgrade, but I'm trying it out now and it doesn't seem to recognize that my drive is a burner. But, the reasons I want to do it I suppose aren't really relevant. I realize I could write an iso and burn it in Vista, but is there just a way to get VPC to recognize my burner? My computer specs are in my sig, and my first burner is just whatever default comes with that computer (sorry, I honestly don't know how to tell anything more specific about it), and my second burner is an external usb dvd burner, called "ez-dub."

I have been receiving messages that my virtual memory is low. The computer is running slowly and frrezing at times. I ran a scan with a programme called RegCure and it found 996 errors. Of course I have to pay for the programme to remove the errors. Does anyone know if this programme is any good, or is there another one that would do the job - maybe a free one? My operating system is Windows XP.

I am having problem of virtual memory on this laptop, when I boot my laptop,it takes a long time to get to the desktop screen and then an error messege appears saying something like "The system is too low on virtual memory and need to increase the size of virtual memory".I do understand something about virtual memory usage I have checked the Peformance tab in Task Manager and the paging file usage is 960MB.Under Physical Memory(K),it says available memory is 35888 or something less then that. The CPU usage goes down and than shoots up to 60% or sometimes even higher. Could it be an over heating issue? Please note that the base of my laptop gets really hot.I have even checked the virtual memory performance in System Properties and the paging file is happening at Drive C:I wanted to know that should I change the setings of virtual memory?Should the remaining partitions like D: and E: be assigned paging file instead of C drive?

I am having repeated messages with low virtual memory for my desktop. I'll have programs stop working with low memory messages, can't load another program message, things wont print. I reboot, and all is fine for a while. I'll go into the control panel to increase the virtual memory. It was set at 764mb. I changed it to custom 3000 mb min,4096 mb max. rebooted. went back to control panel and virtual memory was still at 764 where it says total paging file for all drives current 764. but higher up in the panel it says c: 3000-4096. How do i get the memory problem solved?

Setting up the first one, get to the DOS like screen. There is a message about setting up a file in a virtual CD.Guessing that it needs/wants to install an OP Sys, thus I select the CD drive [M, in my case]. Put my XP Pro CD in my real CD drive. I get the screen about installing XP. Then I get scared. Get two options, forget the exact words, but basically a new install or reinstall. What I have no idea about is whether this is about to reinstall my actual Op Sys [which in no way do I want to do], or is this for the peupose of installing it to the Virtual machine.

Hi everyone. I have a Dell 4700 running Windows XP Pro w/ 2GB RAM installed. I run a Penitium 4 (3.4 GHZ, I believe), Nvidea 6600 Graphics Card, Creative Live! 24-Bit Internal sound, Printer, Broadband Internet. I also have 2 user accounts set up (which sometimes run simultaneously) and run alot of the normal programs including Panda Internet Security, Microsoft Office and The Sims2 w/ all expansions (HUGE Memory Hog). My Question is- With these specs, what amount of space should I alot to the Virtual Memory to on my C: Drive? Windows recommended amount or should I increase it some (mainly due to the Sims2? I want a quick boot up of course, but also all the least load and stall time possible. I'm kinda new to this so please be specific.

I'm stuck have a friends XP machine that is behaving oddly. When it boots, in normal or safe mode, I receive a dialog box once the user selection screen is displayed with the title "virtual memory minimum too low". Then an explanation that XP is going to re-adjust it. At this point everything is hung. At the time I got the machine, there indeed was only 200M left on the C drive, but even when I expanded the partition and gave it 25G free, I still get the message. To make matters worse, I can't seem to boot any CDs in the drive so I have to work on the drive on my machine. This also means I can't boot an XP disk to do a repair/re-install. Was it really low and now just can't get past the message even with the expanded drive?

My system is a Dell Windows XP (SP-3) All Windows Updates are installed and I have 512 MGS of RAM. On Start Up, there is not a lot of extra programs running in the background, and most of the time, my system runs fast. (I use MS Config.) Today, however in my System Tray, I got a Low Virtual Memory Warning Message. What does this mean? I use IE 8 most of the time and occasionally Firefox 3.5.The other thing that I noticed is that from time to time when I right-click on the desktop, I will get a momentary fade-out before the options come into view on the screen. The same thing will sometimes happen when I right-click on my Avast Anti-Virus ball in my System Tray. I only use the computer for Word Processing, e-mail and basic Web Browsing. The computer was purchased in October 2004. Why would I be getting this warning?
