View 9 RepliesWell in doing resurch for a freind in trying to understand the process of overclocking and sheer curiosty to see what my system would be able to push alittle harder i found my way in my bios and desided reluctently to play around with it some to see if i could get my medocer pc to push alittle harder than what it is set for and well i saved and almost immeditly my screen went blank and every time i try to restart my computer, there is nothing being emulated by my screen even thought the montier is in prime shape. aghh so how badly should i kick my own tush and what should i do to repair what i have broken???!?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was clearing out some old files and I have accidently run (from within XP) a BIOS flash utility for my old AOpen AX6BC mobo. MY current mobo is an MSI K8N Neo2. From what I can recall, the utility perfoms the BIOS flash the next time that the PC is rebooted. The file is called ax6bc110.exe. I have tried to delete the file both from Windows and from a Dos box, but I am being told that the file is in use. I have looked in Task Manager but I cannot find an entry that relates to this file.
View 14 Replies View RelatedSo my computer wasnt running the best so i figured maybe I should update my drivers. So I went to the Msi.com.tw website and got to the Live Update Online. I let it update and do what it had to and then I saw this BIOS/Firmware update or something like that so i deceided to do it. I didnt read the Important note posted on the page before i clicked "Yes I would like to try and my own risk" Button. heres what it states.
Important! In order to flash the BIOS/Firmware safely, please make sure to close all running applications in your system before flashing. (Including Outlook, ICQ, Anti-Virus application, etc�)
So Yea. I didnt read that. and After I let it do that and give me and error half way through I think. But anyways I had remebered I had left Norton antivirus on. So now whenever I go back to the Msi.com.tw site and click that try at own risk button.. it restarts my computer now. My fans have sped up and make more noises. not to mention it did ask me if i wanted to backup bios on a floppy. and well... when i Build this computer. I wasnt so smart about buying one of those to put in.. I forgot all about it. So no backup on floppy disc. Now My question for you is How do I fix this? Get a new PSU? I mean it sounds with my ears like it is just dieing after I did that. and I read somewheres it does something to your PSU and restarting. Or is there a alternative way to load my old bios back to normal? Please help. This is killing me. My mom bought me a new graphics card for Xmas and i wanna use it but not til my computers better.
once the on button was pushed, it came up with the BIOS screen asking for the password.I removed the CMOS battery, which allowed me to change the Password so I can get onto BIOS now. However, when I boot now it just comes up with the BIOS screen.I set HD to boot first, aswell as setting the clock and date. I then ask it to save and quit, after which it shut's down, and reboots, only, BIOS keeps coming up. And I need to get this sorted asap

I was away from home for about a week and left the machine plugged into the mains but powered down. When I returned home to boot up, it kept doing things like constantly hanging on parts of the bios POST screen, eventually booting up after thirty or so complete restarts. It finally booted into windows but after the last shutting down, it will now not boot up at all. I have replaced the bios battery and reset the bios several times.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on my computer, it does the bios check, then goes into the bios screen on its own. I have checked all of the bios settings, and see nothing set wrong. The only way I can get itno my xp pro system, is to use "F8" during the bios check, the select my hd from there, then it seems only half of my programs work, and it also seems to be randomly changing the programs that do not work, when I do this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedGot a bit of a problem with my housemates pc.A friend gave him some extra RAM, i checked it out and it was crucial 512mb pc2100 CL2.5, and although it didn't match his exsisting RAM it seemed to me that his mobo would only run the FSB at 200mhz anyway so i went ahead and fitted it.It worked fine I then noticed his system temp was running a little high (60-65 degrees), so i took his heatsink off and cleaned the dust and refitted it with some new thermal compound.I added too much and the temp went up. To nearly 90 degrees.I shut it dwon as i didn't want the cpu to pop, cleaned it off, reapplied less compound and figured this would work fine.Now we have the problem. Most of the time: Power on and nothing happens. No bios, no beeps. Occasionally: Power on, i jump into the bios, the temp looks fine (30-40 degrees) and then it freezes right there in the bios after about 30 seconds to a minute.This sounds like a heat issue, but the last temp reading before freeze is 33 degrees.?I've double and triple checked that the heatsink is on properly and thats fine. I followed the official guide on how much compound to use (a blob the size of an uncooked short grain of rice).

I contacted the maker of my motherboard and they say an upgrade is available and sent it to me for { DON'T CRACKUP} $49.00. I already read that you can really mess up your PC if you do one thing wrong when upgrading. Am I a fool for buying the upgrade? Please let me know as I can send the Floppy discs back.

The bios utility setup is not getting opened through access ibm button . In safe mode it shows that system BIOS and video BIOS is not working and it has been shadowed.sometimes the system gets started ,but after one minute ,it stucks and the whole system paused and nothing happens.It may be the virus attack on BIOS and it also changes the time and date configuration of BIOS. so what should i do .And how i can install BIOS driver to the system.

After the BIOS load, I get a "MBR error 2" message and it just stays there.
My board is an Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe. I used the Asus Update Utility to flash my BIOS.
Im new to this forum but i am so thankfull that this site is hereMy problem is my 11 year old son downloaded a program that was supposed to find duplicate copies of files on his PC and delete them.Well he did this but in doing so he deleted some boot files(i beleave) and he cannot boot up.He downloaded the 4 bootdisk files from the net but still will not boot up from floopy drive either.The error message reads this>>> 'Windows 2000 could not start up because the following file is missing or corrupt....<windows 2000 root>system32 toskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the file.His computer is a IBM with windows 2000 loaded.I beleave there are 2 copies of windows 2000 on his computer because when he tries to bootup it gives him a choice of either copies.Ive tried the windows 2000 CD to boot in the cd-rom drive but either its not reading or maybe its because the disk is a copy and not original.

I don't think my Virus Scan is working right and I have eTrust EZ Armor 2005 which is one that Microsoft recommends. My floppy drive isn't working either. I get a error message that says my driver is corrupt Error 39. My memory got full. I have 10 GB memory and I only have 4.17 left now. I have 512 Ram in my computer, but I don't know how much is left and don't know how to find out. Since I upgraded I can no longer shut my computer down from my desk top. I go to Start and click turn off my computer, then I go to shut down. I seems to go through the motions, but a screen comes up and says it is safe to shut my computer down, well it won't shut down with the button on thefront, so I have to push the button on the back of my computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI messed up my registry and now I can't get any audio, and my DVD and CD ROM drives won't play music/movies. Luckly I have a copy of the registry saved on my hard drive. When I try to merge the file I get this error " Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the system or other processes" How do I go around this? I really do not want to re-install windows again.

When I restarted it, Windows XP had a blue screen on which I never saw before that said it would go through 3 stages to fix any errors that shutting down my computer may have caused. After Windows automatically restarted, what comes on my screen with all the desktop icons is now messed up-- as programs automatically try to open, I get a box like this:
"ituneshe/per.exe- Bad Image The application or dll c:/windows/system32/att.dll is not a valid windows image"The same would happen for my anti virus program, and AIM.I can still access all my documents, and my internet works fine. But the startup process seems like the beginning of problems to come in the future. Does anyone have any advice how I can remedy this?
When ever i click on minimise the screen i wish to do so shrinks in the normal way but appears to disappear behind the task bar. So in my task bar i have nothing. But when i activate task manager its still running.

Anyway, I right-clicked and opened with VLC, and I have no idea how many different VLCs opened. The screen went black and suddenly my desktop is set to 4 bit color and 640x480 resolution. I can change the resolution, but every time I try and change the color, the screen goes black for a good 30 seconds, and when it comes back, it says "your settings have been changed do you wish to keep the bla bla bla" - but it's still at 4 colors. And while it's at it, it switches the resolution back to 640x480. I'm not sure what you need to know for this... I have WinXP and my video card is an Intel 82810E.

Then i tried to reboot but my password wasnt working, so i went into bios, and not knowing what i did i went to change startup pass and changed it... now when i reboot it says use a startup pass, but it wont even let me type it in....and i dont know how to start windows xp cd at reboot cuz for some reason it doesnt go through even when i enter the BIOS....can someone please help me? my pc is messed up.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a big problem, I was trying to change the icons for my file types in explorer specificaly under tools/folder options/file types. Well I changed the icons for the AudioCD,DVD,Drive,File Folder and Folder there was no bad results from the audio and dvd nor the others, it just didnt change my icons to what i wanted it to be so whatever i moved on. Well after i did those things i started to notice that when im using explorer every time i open a folder it would open in a different window so im like maybe i forgot to put a check in the open in the same window in the folder options. So I checked and to my suprise it was checked. I started to search the web for answers and I found a forum and saw that the problem could be in my registry specificaly in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT so I deleted the Folder,Directory and Drive registry folders in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT now I cant access my C drive and my folders fortunatly i can use my browser and other apps i just cant access my drive and documents .
View 3 Replies View RelatedHey guys, not sure if this is the correct forum for this but here we go.I have 7GB's of HD space that is being unused. It is not labeled or anything it is just there. I got Partition Magic to try and merge it with my C drive (due to that is where it was supposed to be in the first place). Anyway, it is not working, is there a way to do this that I am missing (without having to reformat the drive). During initial install of XP, created to partitions of one 80GB HD (C and D).C has 13GB (Should have 20) and D obviously has the other 60.If it comes down to it, I am prepared to backup HD onto an external then re-install but would really like to try and avoid that.

All my hard drives were in the NTFS format, but when I just checked, everything is in FAT, and every hard drive, including my backup hard drive is only partitioned to 1.99 GB. I lost all the data on the backup drive, but I was wondering if I would be able to recover it by restoring the partition or something? How would you guys reccommend I recover the data on my backup drive?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, I really did it this time... I decided to upgrade my laptop to XP... backed everything important, did the upgrade...everything seemed good. Worked. Then it notified me that the Norton was not working, & advised me to uninstall & reinstall... so I did... only thing is, I went ahead with the restart! I should of looked for junk/trace files, especially since it said it didn't completely remove it. So, when I restarted it, XP keeps coming to a screen that checkes the file system, fat ,32 scans & fixes files... dump files, etc. I can get to the IBM Bios setup, but I don't really know what to do from there.When I use a boot (maybe the one I'm using is no good) it says C: doesn't exist... I did try to start in safe mode, one of the times it appeared... but it didn't change the screen still did that fix-it thing.

It has a red hue to it and the blues are too bright and the start button isnt green, its black. The resolution only goes to 32-bit. There are no other options.

The other problem is, is that once it's done with it's like 30 minute loading usually like 5 min. to get running I log in but once im logged in the only thing that happens is my background loads. I did all the backing up of my profile and then dl'ed. Everything went fine and was working fine.Everything seemed to go fine and I was trying out the features. I still liked Firefox, but thought it would be nice using the IE when I had to now, better than it was before.I noticed that the XL Accelerator that we get through our ISP wouldn't work. It would just freeze up and I'd have to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete to close it. I called tech support and they directed me to reinstall it. I deleted the old and reinstalled. It still messed up, so I figured I'd just not use it.
