I have a problem with a laptop running XP pro SP2. Problem is, if I load a CD or DVD into the Drive they dont auto run they just spin up, and to launch I have to do it through explorer, Similarly with my Digital Camera, when I plug it in its supose to ask me what i want to do with the files but the same happens the Nikon program does not auto run, have tried the solutions mentioned here bon this board but still no go.
I'm concerned that I have unnecessary auto-start programs. I downloaded autoruns by sysinternals to help figure this out. I ran the software but now am unsure of what is necessary.
When I boot my external hard drive or put a cd into my laptop (running XP), a window pops up, like normal, asking which program I would like to run in order to view the multimedia on the drive. I used to have Nero and other programs like Jukebox, which I have uninstalled, but they still appear on this list as options, although they have no icon and do not work. How can I modify this list to remove the defunct programs? How can I have it not appear at all or run a defualt program automatically?
I'm wanting to write a macro that will run when I start my computer or shutdown my computer. Here's the deal, I use netzero as my ISP. Netzero is constantly downloading ads that show up when I go to log on. Now the ads are using audio which is even more annoying. Anyway, I found out where the files are kept and I know the names. I'd like to write a file that auto exe's when I turn on or off the computer. It would also be nice to have a function key that would operate the auto delete. Any ideas on how to make this work?
When I put a dvd in the dvd-player for a game or anything, it used to autostart that dvd. But suddenly, it doesn't autostart anymore. I have to start it manually, by clicking the drive and choosing "autorun". It is the same for other drives as well, such as cd-rom drive. How do I fix this?if it's possible, I would like not to install any programs. So are there any configurations or properties I can check?
I have Windows XP Pro, SP2.I was wondering what affect the new daylight savings time start/stop dates will have on Windows and if there is something I should do. Has this been addressed by an update? Somebody please tell me if this has already been addressed and if not is there anything I should do?
my computer recently started logging off automatically as soon as i log in under any of our user names. It doesnt matter if its in safe mode or regular mode. I dont want to loose the data on the hard drive if i fix it some other way.
Whenever I log on to a non-administrator account, my computer automatically logs itself off again before I get a chance to do anything. I see the logging on message, and before the desktop even shows itself, I see the 'saving your settings' message, and I'm back at the welcome screen. I'm pretty sure it's a bad configuration in one of the administrative tools. I'm running windows xp pro on service pack 2.
This computer boots up to a user profile (Welcome) selection log-in screen. Unfortunately, it does not matter which profile is selected because as soon as the profile logs into the users desktop screen (if flashes on the screen for less than a split second) the OS (XP HOME) immediately logs off the profile and returns the computer to the profile log in (Welcome) screen. The computer does NOT re-boot, it only cycles back to the user selection (Welcome) log-in screen. I have also attempted to boot the computer in safe mode and access the Administrator account. The results are the same. Also, I also tried the "Last known good configuration" in safe mode
I have an HP d530c system running Win XP SP2 which will hang 8 times out of 10 when a CD or DVD is inserted. Running DVD and CD writers. Have changed all drives/cables/DMA settings. If autorun is disabled in registry system works fine.
all its been awhile since ive been here,i downloaded ms auto run,but im a bit confused,as to what i can stop from loading and unloading, could someone here please advise me?
Working with a new motherboard & other new components. Using win.XP pro, with SP2 installed yesterday. The autorun feature will not work and the cd-dvd player is not recognized. Trouble installing softwarea also. I think I had this problem cple. months ago after reinstalling XP pro on a new HD installed on my previous system without a clean install.
Lost the auto run feature again. I think I received help from this forum previously to correct this, and it worked. I would appreciate the link again to get this feature back Using Win XP pro, SP 2 installed. This time I'll put the info on file.
run scan disk for error checking to run automatically whenever there is some error. I have to manually do it by running Chkdsk/f which prompts to be checked next time the system restarts. How can scan disk be auto run? Previously I have deleted a string related to scan disk accidentally. But some one suggested me by doing sfc/scan now command the problem could be solved. yeah, it helped but still the auto run option couldn't be fixed.
This is driving me batty. I can't leave my computer for someone else to use, coz the autorun isn't working. My hubby isn't terribly computer literate and so doesn't know how to find the run command, and it's just too hard to teach him. Therefore if I'm away for a while, he can't use the computer to look at anything or put a game on for my son.Can anyone tell me how to turn my autorun back on. I don't even know how it got turned off.
I have Battlefield 2142 DVD edition. For some reason auto run doesn't work so I right click > explore > setup and it loads. It starts up install shield > Choose setup language (English) > starting install shield wizard > error. The error happens at that same point every time. The error report for -5009 : 0x80040801 is this:
PC will auto lock every few hours. You must then unlock by pressing CTRL+ALT+DLT and then enter the Windows password. This PC is equiped with Windows XP and is part of a Network. The screen saver is not engaged.
I have to sign in each time, several times a day, even though the "sign on auto" is checked. I never log off. No help from hotmail just the obvious, do the above. Would appreciate a solution. Use XP Pro.
I have XP fax working fine except I want all incoming faxes to auto store into a folder on another hard drive on another computer. I can't get it to do anything other than store into a folder on the computer it is installed on. All the other computers are accessable via the LAN etc.
I just got a Samsung DVD/CD+RW and it's been working great. However, one thing bugs me. Auto Play will not work with it. I have options in the drive's properties menu to choose what actions the drive should take when a media CD is installed. I have it set so that any type of media is AutoPlay. There're no options for data discs. However, no matter what kind of disc, from movie to Windows XP nothing happens. I have to open up My Computer and then browse for the auto play.
Yesterday I took a couple of snaps as usual with my Olympus Digital 6.0 mega pixel 2.5 LCD.Used the usual cable to connect the camera via USB front port on my PC tower and the usual D: Removable dialog box did not show up on my desktop for me to choose out of several items what I wanted to do. I right clicked on My Computer > open, but the D:drive was empty. I usually choose to 'make a new folder on Picasa' > import and that is it.
So I then downloaded and installed Olympus Master CD that came with the camera, (Never needed before) but I thought I will try anything to correct this issue. Still the same, the D: Removable Drive is empty. I then booted up my Laptop on the same Network, enabled the camera in the USB port, up popped the AutoPlay dialog box, chose to make a new folder in Picasa, imported the pics, and using the sharing folder importing the pictures over to the PC. Certainly the long way around for me. So to clarify the Laptop works well with importing the pics from the camera, but the PC will not which is the new issue. Can anyone pinpoint what the trouble is on the PC that it will not recognize the camera and its photos for importing. One interesting thing when disconnecting the camera from the PC I used the "Remove Hardware option" the camera showed up for hardware to remove, so in one way the PC is recognizing the camera and in another it is not.
WinXP SP2 home This system was loaded with malware such as Websearch, Wintools, Myway, and Ebates. I cleaned it out by:
1) Emptying %temp% 2) Disable System Recover 3) Reboot 4) AdAware SE Personel 5) Reboot 6) SpyBot 7) Reboot 8) HiJackThis 9) Reboot 10) housecall.trendmicro.com (new Beta version) 11) Reboot 12) Empty %temp% 13) Re-enable System Recover
I have re-run AdAware, Spybot, Housecall and even done a WinXP CD repair with all reporting that everything should be OK. Still, whenever I open Explorer (either one) and each different folder in Windows Explorer a couple of succesive "Windows Installer" windows pop up with "Preparing to install" and then they close without anything else. Also, there is very little that can be installed now. Norton Internet Security reports that it can't be installed now. Windows Update gives an error after you tell it to install the updates or display the detailed updates. Sun's Java says that there is another install that has to be finished first. Messenger says that it has a new version that has to be installed before you can use it but after it runs for a while it reports that it can't be installed.
How can I auto login/stay logged in to sites? Like forums, I usually get logged out after 1-2hrs, does changing the cookie expiration date/time help, how can I do that?Is there anything that logs in automatically for me(without clicking), not just to save passwords?
Some time ago, I checked an option somewhere to make it so that whenever I turned on my comp, windows would skip the welcome screen and automatically login to my profile. How do I disable this from happening?
I have Windows XP Pro and powertoys allows me to set auto-login for my administrator account. It's a single user system and it's convenient not to have to enter a password each time I fire up. If I hibernate, however, instead of shutdown then the auto-login doesn't work and I'm forced to the login window. Any way around this?
is it possible or worth creating some script to do this - will it loginto the accounts? I'm the only one using the PC - and do not have a login screen WindowsXP SP2 on a HP laptop Turion64 processor 1gb memory 100GB harddrive I use the wireless connectivity to connect to internet - so may need a slight delay for IP to be aquired
