Cannot Enable Auto Protect For My Antivirus
Mar 24, 2005I have been battling with a Norton problem for quite some time now. The Antivirus will not load upon startup and when I go to manually set up auto protect, I cannot enable it. Additionally, the status of my email scanning with this program is listed as "error" and marked with a red "X". I have tried several things to fix this problem but nothing has worked.

Probably not, but just in-case you have had the itch to do so, I will explain how it's done.This tip involves editing the registry, so I would highly recommend making a backup of it first before proceeding.Find or create the key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Policies->Explorer->Then find the value named : NoDriveTypeAutoRun.Note : if your value has 95 in it, proceed to step 1, if it has "B5" or anything else, proceed to step 2.Step 1. Right click on this value and click Modify. If the value has 95 in it, delete the number 95 and replace it with 91 , making sure to keep all zeros and spaces in the value.Step 2. If the value has B5 in it, or any other letter followed by the number 5, change ONLY the number to 1, so, for example it looks like B1. NOTE: If you value does not have 95 in it, and instead has a value with a letter such as B and then a 5, this tweak may not work.Then click OK, restart your computer, and you will now be one happy auto run man.
Firewall - Auto Update - Network - Enable / Disable Buttons Are Grayed Out
Nov 30, 2006first of all, under the settings for window's firewall, i am not able to choose whether or not i want to enable it or disable it. it is set as disabled and both the enable/disable buttons are greyed out and i cannot click it. second, my auto update keeps turning itself off. after setting it back on, it will turn off the next time i boot my computer. third, i'm having some networking problems. i can connect onto the other computers of my network, however the other computers cannot connect to me. are all these problems related in anyway?

Problem is, if I load a CD or DVD into the Drive they dont auto run they just spin up, and to launch I have to do it through explorer, Similarly with my Digital Camera, when I plug it in its supose to ask me what i want to do with the files but the same happens the Nikon program does not auto run, have tried the solutions mentioned here bon this board but still no go.

Dec 30, 2007I have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?

The only way that I can delete anything is by right-clicking on a file in the recycle bin and deleting it. The last item I deleted becomes the "invisible" file that I can't delete. I am stumped.

Error 1058: the service cannot be started, either it is disabled or because it has no enabled device associated with it." After that it autmatically resets the setting back to disabled.I am running Xp pro with service pack3, computer was totally reformatted 1day before this error occured.

I'm running XP Pro, and for some reason I can't seem to get dual monitors set up properly. I'd like to have 2 monitors set up so that they are identical copies of each other. However, everytime I enable the second monitor in the display properties windows seems to insist on wanting to have that set up as a second monitor to "extend" my desktop.
Is there some hidden registry tweak that I have to set?
