When I try to delete something, it says: "Cannot delete Dc177: Access is denied." The only way that I can delete anything is by right-clicking on a file in the recycle bin and deleting it. But even that does not fix the problem, when the recycle bin is empty, the icon shows that the recycle bin is not empty, but no files appear in the recycle bin. The last item I deleted becomes the "invisible" file that I can't delete. I am stumped.
It seems as tho something is working in the background and I hear constant crunching of the recycle wav like my recycle bin is being emptied or files are being constantly eaten. I just uninstalled Norton 2003, am using WIN 2000 NT and a Dell Latitude laptop, all of which I am slowly becoming familiar with (don't care too much or being networked so far!). At this point, unless it's critical, I don't intend to take frantic action, but this noise is bothering me and I know I'm not imagining it. Also, a Trojan (Trojano-CJT i think it was) was isolated and deleted by avast! I also ran S&D, Yahoo antispy, CW shredder, and Lavasoft. I also found alchem.ini and deleted it.?
It used to be located at C:WINNTWEBRECYCLE.HTT.... now is on my desktop and I still hear the crunching quite often... I noticed it is in full caps. Has anyone heard of this??? Is it part of networking, or maintenance, or perhaps Norton left something behind as usual or maybe this is a virus?
I'm running Windows XP, and I've been having trouble with my Recycle Bin lately. Whenever I delete something some time later my recycle bin empties. Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove Files immediately when deleted is unchecked, and the maximum size of Recycle Bin is at 18%. I moved it to 100 to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't. I couldn't remember what it was at before, so I just put it to 18. Would anyone know what my problem is?
I recently had to reinstall Norton Utilities on XP SP2. Now deleted files get dumped into another folder 'within' the recycle bin. This folder is named: S-1-5-21-1708537768-175567821-839522155-1004 I am unable to delete this folder. To see any files now I have to open up Norton EuErase Wizard I do this by clicking on this unwanted folder (S-1-5-21-1708537768-175567821-839522155-1004) I have another drive - I have each drive independent - both create this folder.
I have a download accelerator called DAP. DAP has an option to send a file that you downloaded to the Recycle Bin. I used that today and then emptied the Recycle Bin. When I emptied it, the Recycle Bin icon stayed the same (it looked like the Recycle Bin was still full). When I opened the Recycle Bin, it was empty. But the "Empty Recycle Bin" button in the Recycle Bin box
It seems my recycle bin keeps saying I have 17 items, i keep emptying it but it always says the same thing. I open it up to look inside but there is nothing there. but it shows files in it every time.
I have not had a problem for a while regarding my desktop icons not refreshing, but have recently had my recycle bin display as the full icon when it has nothing in it? When I click refresh in the recycle bin menu,it remains "full"(I have even checked to see if its full by opening the "bin, but nothing shows up after opening it),and I was wondering if anyone familiar with this particular problem might have an easy solution?
alright, i got mad last time iw as here and swore i'd never comeback but well i'm desperate I have managed to somehow recycle my recycle bin. Can't find it in a search.
My system is set up with three harddrives and multiple partitions on each drive.I know that if I just delete a file, it's stored in the Recycle Bin and not actually deleted, even if I empty the bin. However, since the Recycle Bin is on the C: drive, if I delete a file from another drive's partition, and then I use Eraser on the Recycle Bin to overwrite the files inside, are the files still on the partition and the empty space on it now has to also be Erased?

I have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?

I'm running XP Pro, and for some reason I can't seem to get dual monitors set up properly. I'd like to have 2 monitors set up so that they are identical copies of each other. However, everytime I enable the second monitor in the display properties windows seems to insist on wanting to have that set up as a second monitor to "extend" my desktop. Is there some hidden registry tweak that I have to set? Any ideas?
