I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop running XP Home. The VGA driver has been disabled and all I get after bootup is a black screen. None of the safe modes work. I gan get into recovery. How do I re-enable the VGA driver that was disabled?
View 19 RepliesLike lots of other people my computer wouldn't shutdown automatically after shutting down windows xp...I tried enabling APM, but then the computer wouldn't shutdown at all, and just restarted all the time. so I always had to manually turn off my computer when the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen came up.
Well I fixed this problem, and came across the solution, for me accidently. I went to Device Manager, then to View then Show Hidden Devices, then you look on the list for NT Apm/Legacy Support. Under that is NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node. I found that this driver was disabled. Why, I'm not too sure, but I enabled it and now when I shut down windows, my computer turns off automatically. I went into power management and the APM was also activated/enabledIt must do this when you enable the driver.
i recently formatted by acer 5583wxmi and unable to find Lan driver for it any where, able to go online thorugh wireless but not through lan as driver is not installed where can i find my lan driver for acer laptop. i have installed linux on one f the partition but unable to enable to the wifi its working fine under xp but nt in linux.
I have a Gateway 7422GX which as a Mobility Radeon 9550. I repaired windows using the cd because I restarted my computer and it was either going to take 7min+ to boot, or just wasn't going to. I got stuck at the windows splash screen. I'm using windows professional. Whenever I try to install any of the drivers, I get the same error message: Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have this seriously big problem on my computer (well why else would i be here)i have a ACER Aspire L100 which is a VERY good pc.it used to have Media Centre edition as the operating system but it suddenly stopped working. so i was forced to install windows xp home edition.now when i install the sound driver ever time i try and open up a media program such as media player or itunes and turns around and tells me that there is a problem with the sound card and another program must be using it. The graphic driver is the other driver that wont install properly. when i run the installation i get a message that reads
ive tried and run windows update but it doesnt find anything.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?

The only way that I can delete anything is by right-clicking on a file in the recycle bin and deleting it. But even that does not fix the problem, when the recycle bin is empty, the icon shows that the recycle bin is not empty, but no files appear in the recycle bin. The last item I deleted becomes the "invisible" file that I can't delete. I am stumped.

Error 1058: the service cannot be started, either it is disabled or because it has no enabled device associated with it." After that it autmatically resets the setting back to disabled.I am running Xp pro with service pack3, computer was totally reformatted 1day before this error occured.

I'm running XP Pro, and for some reason I can't seem to get dual monitors set up properly. I'd like to have 2 monitors set up so that they are identical copies of each other. However, everytime I enable the second monitor in the display properties windows seems to insist on wanting to have that set up as a second monitor to "extend" my desktop.
Is there some hidden registry tweak that I have to set?
Any ideas?
Can you please tell me how to enable active-x for the windows validation?

It's normally kept hidden on purpose because the average user doesn't need to lock down their system THAT tight. But if you're a regular here, you're not that average. I haven't used xp since vista came out until I bought my netbook a few weeks back. My netbook came with windows xp sp3 and i can't get the address bar. I go to toolbars and enable address bar, but i dont see the actual address bar, it only shows the words address bar.
