Sp2 Firewall Gpo - Cannot Enable / Disable
Jun 23, 2005I have a pc with xp pro sp2 where i cannot enable/disable firewall, it is controlled by domain group policy. I log on with a user with admin rights on the domain and local machine, with gpo i can enable/disable firewall, but I want to control that from the local machine, how can I get it?

Nov 30, 2006first of all, under the settings for window's firewall, i am not able to choose whether or not i want to enable it or disable it. it is set as disabled and both the enable/disable buttons are greyed out and i cannot click it. second, my auto update keeps turning itself off. after setting it back on, it will turn off the next time i boot my computer. third, i'm having some networking problems. i can connect onto the other computers of my network, however the other computers cannot connect to me. are all these problems related in anyway?

Not sure which I should have chosen, 1 or 2
For 1, hitting Enter does nothing
For 2, hitting Enter, get error message, "the password is not valid"
I have administrator rights; there is no password. When I had logon box, I left password blank and hit Enter to logon.
Renaming Profile Folder Name WinHome?
Aug 5, 2005I would like to change the name of my profile folder under the Docs/settings folder to match my laptop. The Desktop has the generic "owner" that shows
up after hard drive restoration with my restore disk. I should have created a new profile when I did this, but I forgot and reinstalled everything into the Owner folder.I realize that I cannot just rename the folder due to reg settings. How can I achieve this.

First, it wouldn't let me select allow or ask under the access internet or trusted column under the program control. However they are giving me their old PC, which I will be using to install Linux on and use as a learning tool for myself.The problem comes in that they would like to use their XP Home license on the new machine. Dec 30, 2007I have Windows XP SP2 installed on an "ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe" which used to work with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz. I Finaly bought a P4 3.0 GHz (HT) and changed the CPU. The OS detected the new cpu and with a driver signing warning, it installed the new processor (The driver is provided by Microsoft). Although everything seems to work fine I don't have "Hyper Threading" enabled in Windows, while it is reported to be available in BIOS. I found some boot.ini editing guide that didn't help. I don't want to fresh install windows since I'm faithful to my aged XP which was installed around 1998 and upgraded to-date! How can I enable HT?

The only way that I can delete anything is by right-clicking on a file in the recycle bin and deleting it. But even that does not fix the problem, when the recycle bin is empty, the icon shows that the recycle bin is not empty, but no files appear in the recycle bin. The last item I deleted becomes the "invisible" file that I can't delete. I am stumped.

Error 1058: the service cannot be started, either it is disabled or because it has no enabled device associated with it." After that it autmatically resets the setting back to disabled.I am running Xp pro with service pack3, computer was totally reformatted 1day before this error occured.
