You actually have a 5th, hidden, security zone in your IE6 Internet options->Security->Zones know as "My Computer". Yep, you can protect yourself from your own system. It's normally kept hidden on purpose because the average user doesn't need to lock down their system THAT tight. But if you're a regular here, you're not that average. One other possible reason (just a guess) is that it might help stop the spread of trojans and bad ActiveX controls. HKEY_CURRENT_USERS ....
I have my winXP firewall enabled and at the same time, zonealarm. Will it have a conflict? Do I need to disable WinXP firewall? Or can I have the two running at the same time?
I'm having a problem here...I have zonealarm suite and norton antivirus on my com. But recently, I have switched my antivirus to kaspersky, the problem is, every time I start the com, zonealarm will warn me and ask me to enable zonealarm antivrus, which I think it should not be case since I have kaspersky load on every startup. I even check the 'Don't show this message....' in the warning message, but it didn't help. Hence, could somebody please enlighten me on how to switch off the warning?
Another problem I'm having is, I see something in msconfig, under startup, the item is %systemroot%system32dumprep 0 -k, I tried to search in google what this is but to no avail, search results shown only dumprep 0 -u, and not dumprep 0 -k. Is this two thing the same? Would disable it do me any harm? And what does it do to my com if I enable it?
All of a sudden I can not download any programs, music files etc. I just get the above message in my Mozilla Firefox download screen. The same thing happened when I tried Internet Explorer.
I am running Windows XP and using Firefox 3.0.1. The problem is that Download blocked by Security Zone Policy, I have gone into the Internet section of control panel and reduced the zone protection to the minimum. I have turned the firewall in McAfee off. These actions did not have any effect. I am not aware of any other program on my computer that would cause this to happen. I use Sypware Doctor, but I disabled that also. My computer is set to load Windows updates automatically and that would be the only software updated I might have loaded.
So what are you guys running to protect your PC? Right now I'm running... - Zone Alarm Security Suite as my primary protection. (Firewall, AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, IM Protection, Email Protection, Program Control, Identity Protection, and Parental Control)For backup software (the more, the merrier) I'm using... - AVG Free (AntiVirus) - Spybot: Search and Destroy (AntiSpyware) - Symantec Client Firewall* (Firewall) - Symantec Client Antivirus* (AntiVirus)
Getting a message from ZoneAlarm Security Suite saying i have a corrupt file - zlclient.exe C:windowsinternetlogs, vdebug.log. I've tried running chkdsk /f but it says the file is locked.
security center informs me that my anti virus is not enable. when checking this and going back opening the security center it now tells me that antivirus is enable even though i have not touch anything. also I have the built in xp firewall turned off but it is displayed as on in the security center.
i had to reformat my computer and when i was reinstalling my programs suddenly my hidden files where not hidden anymore if i clicked properties it said hidden but they just appear translucent.

Its making these icons appear that are either porn or these downloads to those trojan spyware things. There are two icons where the time is, a yellow yield sign and the red x and they just lead me to more of those sites, can someone help me get rid of them?
There are suddenly no options listed under the "Manage security settings for:" heading, just blank space, so I have no way to edit my Firewall, Antivirus or Windows Update settings from the Center. I opened services.msc and it shows the service started automatically.
I've forgotten but in a new install of XP-Pro,SP2 using NTFS on C: I don't have the Security Tab when I right click on a folder to setup sharing. I want this so I can set Permissions, etc. I have it on my other PC set up the same way but for some reason I don't on this new install.
What am I doing wrong? My username is a member of the Andministrators group.
I haven't been to this site for a while and I noticed I'm getting Security Warnings that my security settings has blocked of an ActiveX install. I know how to change those settings, but am reluctant to do so. Can anyone shed some light on this. I occasionally will get similar warnings on other sites, but it is consistant on this one. Once in a while IE6 will hang up on this and I'll have to got to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it.
My Windows Secuirty Centre is still detecting an old AV program as up-to-date and active even though its no longer installed... same with the firewall is there any way of resetting the security centre or where in the registry can i find the entrys to modify?
many of the security holes found in software (especially Microsoft Windows) might have been deliberately put there as back doors into our computers for easy access by our governments. I guess my question is this. Will total, absolute, 100% security ever be possible or will our government always demand a back door in? It just seems that if any back door exists, it will eventually be discovered and exploited.
I do not show the Security Center Icon in the Control Panel. I can go to the Security Center by going to All Programs, Accessories, System Tool, route. How can I add Security Center to Control Panel?
With a new laptop tried to install and run Zonealarm but in vain. Then i deleted windows xp home edition firewall but still i download zorealarm but it doesnot work. Also i try to run ''Spywareblaster'' but it says:'run-time error 438: object doesn't support this property or method.'
I've been using Zone Alarm's firewall for several months now without a hitch. I turn on my computer today and get a Windows Security Alert notifying me that no firewall is detected even though it seems to be on. Is it something wrong with Windows or Zone Alarm? And how can I tell if Zone Alarm is actually in this case functioning?
i have used Zone Alarm almost since they have started. Unfortunatly they have been bought by Check Point an Israeli Company. If you get a notice to update say no. They have added what I call a VIRUS OF THE WORST KIND!!! It says your computer has an error and won't let you get on the INTERNET! I have tried everything. Reformatting my disk, reinstalling windows and leaving Zone Alarm out and it still comes back. I have tried almost evey ANTIVIrus on the Internet plus almost every Spyware. I righclicked on it and Notepad came up and said that it has intwined itself in Bellsouth DSL Software so I can't get to the Internet. I reinstalled Bellsouth and for a short time I can get to the Internet like now. BE very careful. Bellsouth has a security suite that allows me to get to the Internet, But I can't go to more than one site and I have to Reboot. It also fouled up my Printer even with the Bellsouth Security Suite and I had to remove my printer and Rinstall it. CAUTION!!! I also deleted it out of the Registry and it came back!
Windows XP Home Edition.I had the free Zone Alarm edition installed and working for some considerable time.I did uninstall it with the uninstall procedure. Now I have downloaded the free Zone Alarm program again but when I go to intall this my pc shuts down.
I have xp home, and have Zone Alarm.I have been getting this message come up quite often, which I deny, because I can't find out anything about it. does anyone know what it is and should I allow or deny it please? The only thing I can find out is that it 'could be potentially malicious
I know you can use the net time command to sync a PC's time with another PC, but what about setting the time zone and daylight saving time? Can these settings be changed from a command prompt
I suppose I became bored(or stupid) but I decided to give Windows Live One Care a try. I like the idea that it has a two way firewall.I've tried Zone Alarm, but it's just too much trouble! Any opinions on this? I haven't read anything on this forum one way or the other. It has a 90 day free trial, so if I don't like it I can always reinstall my Avast, which I was having NO trouble with.
Though not being a computer professional or expert, wish to state that for many years I have been using ZoneAlarm Free version as my Firewall software. Recently tested the Kerio software and realized Kerio better in appearance, presentation, uncomplicated etc. and the best is the easiness in creating rules. In Kerio you could create Firewall rules straight away from the connection prompt. I am using the free version of Kerio. With best regards, Brother Brock.
Can anyone suggest a free firewall for Windows XP? I have used ZoneAlarm for years but recently have been having a lot of problems with "server not found" and am sick and tired of rebooting everytime I want to get on the net.
I run off XP and have Free ZoneAlarm Firewall installed. No problem up until today, but after an XP download upgrade, could not get internet access. Removed ZA and used Windows Firewall and no problem. Reinstalled ZA and no access, so now back to MS Firewall.
I am currently running the free version of ZoneAlarm so that I can use the firewall. I am getting a blocked message that indicated that the firewall blocked something that seems to be coming from my cable internet provider.
