View 4 RepliesYou actually have a 5th, hidden, security zone in your IE6 Internet options->Security->Zones know as "My Computer". Yep, you can protect yourself from your own system. It's normally kept hidden on purpose because the average user doesn't need to lock down their system THAT tight. But if you're a regular here, you're not that average. One other possible reason (just a guess) is that it might help stop the spread of trojans and bad ActiveX controls. HKEY_CURRENT_USERS ....

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows XP, Sv. Pk.2. on a 3 year old Dell desktop. I recently had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. I backed up everything on an Iomega external hard drive using Acronis True Image software. Everything worked fine and I have all my files back, except for my email address books (7 Of them) and my saved email folders (about 20 of them). I use Thunderbird for my email. The email data are all in my hard drive but are in hidden files. I can locate them but cannot figure out how to open them and read them - and neither can I import them. Here is an example for just one file: abook.mab C:Documents and SettingsWilliamApplication DataThunderbirdProfiles|zvcjz11s.default
All files are "Read" files and this is the message I get when I click on "Read" : Adobe Reader could not open 'abook.mab'

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had my PC (athlon 2300, winXP sp2) set so I could see hidden files, just so I could know what was going on in my hard drive. As of yesterday I can't, and re-setting the see hidden files option doesn't work anymore. Last major change I made was uninstalling Norton SystemWorks, a.k.a. ResourceHog, which was giving me a huge headache, and have been using Activescan and Kaspersky online scanners and CureIt free antivirus.

View 11 Replies View RelatedCan someone fill me in on the files ( content.ie5 & history.ie5 ). There are more than one instance of these files scattered about Windows. The primary one I am wondering about is in ... /[current user]/local settings/Temporary Internet files/content.ie5. The 2 things are this. 1) It is soo well hidden, that if you don't know it's there you will never see it. One has to make use of the command window and address it directly. 2) This file grows constantly as you use IE. It also grows when one tells IE to clear all cache and history files. It becomes unusally large, over 2 to 3 gigs, or more. I am using XP PRO /SP2, but these files are in all windows from 98 up I think.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have recently reinstalled windows XP after some speed problems and my PC is running really well now. I've also been carrying out a lot of registry clean-up (CC Cleaner), maintenance etc.

I need info on whether theres a program or something that i can use that will automatically remove the super hidden status of files and folders. I had a virus go through my system and screw up all my files by making them super hidden and im sick of using command prompt to remove the attribute from the individual files and folders. so if theres an easier way to do all my files in one go i would be very appreciative.

And it's a like 7 Gigabytes difference."super hidden folder" in directly on my C: drive. It was a limewire folder. I had to put C:/uploads just to get into it. I don't know the name of this super hidden folder so I can't just do that. Any help? And if you notice it says that the Tim Atkinson Folder contains 15,738 files in 651 folders and when I go in that folder and select EVERYTHING I get 2,017 files in 650 folders. Theres a folder with a lot of files missing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had 'Show All Hidden Files and Folders' enabled for a long time now, but all of a sudden all of of my hidden files disappeared. They weren't deleted, since they are still viewable via cmd (attrib or dir/a). So I went to 'Folder Options', and saw that 'Show All...' was still enabled.I tried to 'Hide All...' and then 'Show All...' again, but then I saw that after setting it to Hide All and re-entering Folder Options, that 'Show All' was stuck on enabled. Restarting didn't solve either problems.Scanned my PC with Registry Mechanic, Ad-Aware, Spybot - S&D, and NOD32. still nothing.

Normally "do not show hidden files"is only selected. When I clicked on " show hidden files it would work and show the hidden files, until a couple days ago. Now both buttons are still selected but I can not get it to show the hidden files. When I click a button that button will be the only one selected the other one goes out. Then I click apply and ok then open view back up both buttons are still both selected.
