I downloaded a program and found out that I cannot delete it. Every time I turn on my pc It comes out and every time I log out, it stay on on my pc. So, I deleted it and then I discovered that all my programs became a executable link.
View 3 Replies2005 MCE WIN XP, if i go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, and scan thru my programs, the amount of time to scroll thru programs is about 3-4 seconds, before it closes out, also RENAMING a folder, on desktop, same thing happens, for instance, renaming a folder PICTURES, i get to PIC, then it kicks me out. I have OPtical wireless mouse, replaced batteries with fully charged ones, no difference, also mouse 12 inches from reciever.

I'm having some jitter in the capture of video through VIVO that I'm attributing to too many services running at once and using up so much resource. I can see it well enough in the final DVD production being played on a home DVD player that it is annoying. I can easily suspend the usual programs like anti-virus and such but there are a boatload of other services that run. If anyone knows of a program or a list that would indicate to me what services are mandatory.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHad to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?
Once again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge.I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work. I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.

When this happens I am not able to turn my computer back on. I have to unplug everything. When I plug it back in, the light is usually still orange but I just keep hitting the on and off button until it finally turns green and the computer will start up. I will now shut my computer down at night but when I get up in the morning the light on the computer is orange again.

Afterwards the harddrive powers-down, the fans stop running, etc. Then for no reason, the computer turns back on after a brief period of time off (varied: 1hr, 15min, 8 sec) as if someone pushed the power button.I did not install any new software, or update/added on new hardware when this problem started to happen. View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I start my PC the only thing that appears is the wallpaper and the mouse arrow which does move but no right click. I've tried SafeMode and get only the words Safe Mode in four corners so I can't do a system restore. I've tried restoring to last known good configuration but I get the wallpaper again.The only thing I can think of doing is a full restoration but I have 300 itunes on my hardrive which are paid for.
If anyone has an idea how to get my programs & icons back, I'll try anything.
My OS is Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 (Service Pack 1), now recently I had to turn off System Restore to get rid of a pesky trojan horse virus (I did successfully). The problem now is I can't turn it back "on". I've gone to the troubleshooting pages and used every method and I get the same error messages
"Could not start System Restore Service on Local Computer"
"Error 5: Access is Denied"
"System Restore cannot protect your computer right now, restart and try again"
I finally broke down and went from W2K Pro to XP Pro on my new build. Almost all my apps have installed just fine but two that I need will not. They are NetObjects Fusion 7 and Adobe Elements 2.0. Both are fairly new, around 2002 or 3 releases and both are rated for XP but once I launch the setup.exe the hourglass shows for about 5 seconds and then goes back to the standard cursor. I checked the Task Manager and in both cases setup.exe is loaded and running and I have to End Process to try the setup again but the same thing happens each time to both apps. They both installed fine and I've been using them for years on my W2K Pro machine.

Non shortcuts such as my computer or outlook express open normally. I have recreated all shortcuts and the new shortcuts still won't open. I have tried the obvious of restarting the computer and I have run my antivirus programs (symantec,spy bot and adaware) w/o anything being found. Can any one give me any ideas of what may fix this issue?

View 7 Replies View Relatedhave changed my memory usage settings to "system cache mode" and now each time I reboot my pc it only lasts for so long then reboots itself as there is not enough memory to run the application. Windows does not stay active long enough for me to go back and change the settings to "program" instead of "system cache" (in control panel/system/advanced/performance/memory usage)Will booting in "last good configuration" revert to the previous memory settings? Will booting in safe mode allow me enough memory to get in and revert teh settings myself?
