whenever i Hibernate My System and then Turn it BACK ON, IT HALTS AFTER COMPLETING THE LOADING OF "RESUMING WINDOWS", Then Nothing Happens. This sucking problem was with my AthlonXP-2400+, with totally different components(but the running Programs are same --- My Friend has the SAME SYSTEM AND SAME RUNNING PROGRAMS like I DO,They have no problem). I thought it was of my IDE-HDD.

I checked the power options in control panel carefully but hibernation feature tab is missing. My friend told me that the problem is relating to out of date video card driver. View 3 Replies View RelatedHad to reinstall Windows XP. It appears there are issues with SP2 involving the video graphics card and the sound. Now I'm stuck. I thought that if I chose "do not use this device" under "Device usage" on the display adaptor tab, that it would pick the right adaptor.
Anyway, my screen went blank and I tried to reboot in safe mode and it sticks at mup.sys. I disabled mup and it now sticks at "nid" something or other.
I use "Windows Narrator" to try and reenable the adaptor but I think the reinstall or the SP2 killed my sound.
Is there a way to reenable VGA adaptor from the command prompt in recovery mode?
Once again the computer impaired one comes to the table of knowledge.I shut down my PC, fans stop, lights go out. About 6-8 mins later it starts up again, been doing this for four days now. I ran a virus scan which came out clean. The only way to keep it turned off is to unplug it. The only tinkering I've done lately is to try to open a port on my router which I didn't get done, forgot password and reset button doesn't work. I don't think my PC is set to hibernate, I have never used that feature.

When this happens I am not able to turn my computer back on. I have to unplug everything. When I plug it back in, the light is usually still orange but I just keep hitting the on and off button until it finally turns green and the computer will start up. I will now shut my computer down at night but when I get up in the morning the light on the computer is orange again.

Afterwards the harddrive powers-down, the fans stop running, etc. Then for no reason, the computer turns back on after a brief period of time off (varied: 1hr, 15min, 8 sec) as if someone pushed the power button.I did not install any new software, or update/added on new hardware when this problem started to happen. (Prior to this happening every time i turned my computer on it gave me a windows message before loading saying something like "Alert, your power supply is low .. something something" im not sure if that has anything to do with it but yea..) now when i press my power button it flashes like its going to turn on but doesnt just stays off.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy OS is Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 (Service Pack 1), now recently I had to turn off System Restore to get rid of a pesky trojan horse virus (I did successfully). The problem now is I can't turn it back "on". I've gone to the troubleshooting pages and used every method and I get the same error messages
"Could not start System Restore Service on Local Computer"
"Error 5: Access is Denied"
"System Restore cannot protect your computer right now, restart and try again"
I downloaded some windows updates but not all of them installed. When I go to Turn Off Computer, the "Turn Off" button has changed, indicating that when I hit it, it will install the updates. There's also a field I can click which will Turn Off without installing the updates. When I click the Turn Off buttion, it attempts to install two updates. It doesn't appear to be successful. Every time I Turn Off Computer it apparently tries to install the same two updates. I can reboot and do this over and over and they don't "take".There's nothing in Event Viewer to indicate what's going on. I couldn't find any installation logs though I'm not sure where to look.

So I assumed it might be the power supply so I went and bought a new one from stamples. He turned on for maybe 5 seconds then turned off. so I took it back thinking maybe I didn't have enough watts. View 8 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

I've done plenty of research and found all the hot fixes and MS support articles, one catch...... They are all for x86 while I'm running' a 64x system. I want my hibernation back! View 1 Replies View RelatedRight, got a Toshiba A30-151, had XP Home OEM installed on it when it left the factory (so no install disk), finally got round to doing a reinstall (been messing about with OSX, needed clearing off and starting from scratch anyway). Some time ago a copy of XP Pro (fully legal) was posted through my door addressed to someone else, with no return address, so i kept it. anyway, thought i'd finallly use this and installed it, but now i have no option to hibernate the laptop? The hibernate tab is not there in power management. I know it's supported, as i could hibernate it before i reformatted and reinstalled. any way round this, other than using my mate's Home OEM disk and my serial to reinstall?

i can't get my Dell Dimension 8100 (640MB RAM, 1.3 GHz P4) to go into
standby or hibernation mode. When I manually put the computer in standby or
hibernate, it wakes back up in about 5 minutes or so.
I've looked/read the articles in the knowledge base, which mentioned that
there was a problem with SP1 and USB mass storage devices. Well, I've got SP2
and there still is some problem going on!
I go into Control Panel >Power Options>Hibernate and I click on "enable Hibernation" then apply and I get the message that process cannot be enabled as another process is using file. I do a clean boot and try again but get the same message. Does anyone have an idea of which other process might be using the necessary file and how I can reenable Hibernation?

Restore a VPN connection after the computer's network capabilities are restored on resuming from hibernation. This is important because I have to occasionally wake thesystem from offsite using its Wake-On-LAN NIC. I've tried setting up a scheduled task to run at start-up and user logon which uses RASDIAL to dial the appropriate VPN connection, but this connection depends on the logged-in user's credentials, so it won't work at start-up. When set to have it run at user logon, it doesn't run when the computer comes out of hibernation.
