I just installed win XP pro on my young brother sony Vaio old PC. The hibernation feature is missing from window. I already updated all security features of windows. I checked the power options in control panel carefully but hibernation feature tab is missing. My friend told me that the problem is relating to out of date video card driver. How can I get the hibernation feature back similar to my PC?
anyone got any idea how to get the delete confirmation feature back on. For some odd reason i no longer get asked if i would like to delete something...it just deletes it.
whenever i Hibernate My System and then Turn it BACK ON, IT HALTS AFTER COMPLETING THE LOADING OF "RESUMING WINDOWS", Then Nothing Happens. This sucking problem was with my AthlonXP-2400+, with totally different components(but the running Programs are same --- My Friend has the SAME SYSTEM AND SAME RUNNING PROGRAMS like I DO,They have no problem). I thought it was of my IDE-HDD.
I run Windows xp sp2, I often use hibernation option, recently I am unable to do this. When I go into power options in the control panel the hibernation tab is missing, also in the turn off computer options in the start menu the standby tab is greyed out
I need help from you guys. I install win XP pro on my young brother PC but the HD can't install 2 files. I skipped them. Windows boots up normally.I used this CD for installation on my own pc without any problems. Is the CD corrupted? Why does the hibernation tab mission from power option? Is this due to missing video driver? I already check BIOS; it has hibernation feature.
I have had an ongoing problem with reinstalling xp pro where my hal.dll file suddenly goes missing. I thought it was an old harddrive problem but it just happened with one I bought not half a year ago.
I've read other forums and help sites about expanding it from the cd drive (which says it can't be done when I try) creating a new boot.ini, and writing a new boot sector. I've even reverted back to fdisking and formating with a windows 98 startup disk which worked for me a few times but now is seeming useless.
I've looked at over 20 related forums on this site, all which haven't solved my problem. All I found useful was the turn off auto update trick that seemed to have brought my minimum usage down from 15 to 0-5.My computer reports free of malware, spyware, and viruses. I use Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, Panda Activescan, and AVG Anti spyware and have no processes running. When CPU spikes, only possible associated programs are services.exe and svchost.exe, but they only go to 20 at most. System idle process reports normal at 98-99. I'm using Sensors View Pro, which tells me my CPU isn't overheating because it stays at a consistent 3 degrees Celsius. I tried resetting the BIOS, that didn't work. I checked the IDE controllers in device manager to see if they had the correct transfer modes, which they did. I tried updating my MOBO drivers. I can't think of anything else I've tried at the moment.
The biggest thing that stumps me is that my computer isn't sluggish until I start gaming. I only play Battlefield 2, which doesn't require much resources to play and only sucks up about 400 mb of memory. The thing that aggravates me is when my Frames per second average between 10 and 25 and everything gets really REALLY slow. At first I just thought is was a problem with my gaming, but then I realized the bigger problem that my CPU jumps up and down like a heart monitor. I've attached my HiJack this log just in case
I really appreciate it if anyone can assist in solving my problem. I've really done a lot of research not just on this website and results are still inconclusive obviously. It's driving me crazy because I feel like I've tried everything so I feel it must be a hardware issue and then I don't know why it would be...GOSH! Thanks in advance to those brave enough to wrestle this monster!
I would like the Group similar taskbar buttons option only to apply to IE, but have a seperate button for each open word document. Is this possible? Also, how do I completely disable the add new hardware wizard. It always pops up when I turn on my computer and tries to install a driver for my printer. None of the many methods and "workarounds" described online did anything to stop it.I have no desire at all for this feature, I can install drivers myself, and want to completely disable it.
Symanted SystemWorks One Button Checkup found that I am missing three ".dll" files. The most numerous one is msvcr80.dll and the other two are learn32.dll and pctree32.dll. What do I need to do to get them back, and have the correct version.
Win 98 / SE has a ScanReg.exe application, which on start-up picks up the 2 Registery files (System.Dat, User.Dat) plus 2 ini files (System.ini and Win.in) and compresses trhem as *.cab file - RBxxx.cab. The files are stored at WindowsSysBckUp folder. In case of improper shut-down or some just installed program cause problem, one can boot with F8 to command propmt and RESTORE the registery. Is there a similar functionality in Win XP - Professional or if not, any 3rd party software developer has created a software for that. Restore from Windows mode generally does not work and in case the registery is totally messed up, one does not have the running system, so the question of restoring the system, using SYSTEM RESTORE application does not arise.
looking on ebay for a new copy of microsoft office. I have been seeing these offers for these other programs from other countries that are supposed to be very much like microsoft office. They are very inexpensive but claim to do the same things and even import and export the same files as MS office. What I am asking is are these things illegal? Do they really work?
I don't know where to post this question so I'll try here! Can somebody please tell me how to retrieve my back and forward buttons in Firefox? Don't even know how I lost them.
Some of my windows Xp icons are missing.I cant post an image of it cause i cant post any links but its the ones in the user administration of the control panel...the ones on the left hand side.Is their anyway to get them back?
I have recently bought a XPS 16 and some how one of my menu's went missing. i must have clicked somethingand now i am trying to figure out how to get the menu that has the msn, email, video, media, recycle bin etc back on the top of my screen. I did a search as they recommened on my computer for the wmfimp32.fit file and there is none in my computer...where can i get this file to download back into my computer or what else can i do to be able to use my publishing program.
Ever since I installed XP SP2 my Trash Can Icon is missing and the network places icon was never ever there from when I installed XP (few days ago). I miss my icons! Why aren't they there and why do they refuse to come back?
I have had the error message file missing or corrupt/WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIG|SYSTEM , it says to load xp setup and then hit r when prompted to start repair , however every time i try to do this it just reboots and takes me back to the same message. I have tried booting from cd with xp disc and service pack2 but i dont get any setup screen/options and no option to repair. I really do not want to lose this machine as it has all my own self produced music on it and in the past i have lost 2 machines full of tracks to other hardware related problems.
I know it was here at my last login, but Disk Cleanup is no longer listed in Programs>>Accessories>>System Tools, and the shortcut that I had placed on my Desktop is gone as well. This is the second PC on my in-home network, running XP Home edition, that this has happened to within the last 9 months - I have Norton Internet Security (all current and up to date) on all three boxes - anybody know what 's going on?
I've been reading other members' problems with missing control panels and settings. I have a similar problem. I can't access my time and setting. I have no control panel. Each time I click on the time I receive this message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. I'm the admin. and I can't access anything. I tried clicking properties, start menu, advance, but there is no control panel.
I had a missing "Windowssystem32configsystem" upon restarting my comp last Saturday. Couldn't boot into safe mode at all. Used HP's recovery console to run chkdsk and it fix errors on the volume. Wouldn't let me run the recovery disks I had to get from HP since they are not given with a new computer. Great I thought.Upon starting now, my antivirus won't run and a lot of Windows programs(Search adn System Restore just a blank page, Media Player, etc) .I can get IE to open up but no active X although it says it is enabled, also my home page doesn't show up at all but it is set to it. Those are some of the things I have found wrong so far as I am sure I have more.
I have win xp home edition installed on my laptop. Last week i used a software called Cleanse Uninstaller. It did something to my registry that now when i boot my computer i don't see any desktop icons on the desktop. All i see is the green windows background with the logo win xp home edition. i tried to get into the system restore by going thru the CTL + ALT+ Del then go in New Task and run to pop up the system restore point window. when i do that I get the system restore point window but the window is blank. No text no calender ( the usual restore point screen) to restore it to an earlier point. What do i do now.
I am new to the forum and have read some of the threads related to my problem, but my problem still exists. I have run spybot and Ad-aware from in the safe mode and have removed everything that came up (Bargain Buddy could not be removed.) I have also run Housecall and removed their recommended items
Hello everyone. I am currently using Windows XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T43 laptop. My main partition which houses windows xp is 34 GB total size. When I highlight the C: drive in "My Computer", it tells me that I have 10GB of free space (therefore I'm using 24GB). When, however, I double click on C: and go into that folder, select all (and yes, I have enabled viewing hidden files/folders), right-click and choose properties, I am then told that C: only contains 15GB of files/folders. Where is this missing 5GB?
With XP Pro SP2, I enable "Group similar taskbar buttons". I generally have my taskbar stretched 2 to 3 rows even so. Sometimes, when I have a lot of windows open, and the similar taskbar buttons group and stack themselves, so 1 button contains 2 or 3 open tasks, I can't get any action out of the buttons that represent multiple open tasks.
Any of the taskbar buttons that represent a single open task are fine. But any buttons that represent multiple open tasks don't respond. I have to do Alt - Tab to bring a task to the front, if it's one of the tasks on a button that represents a group. Or I can go to Taskbar Properties, and deselect "Group similar taskbar buttons".
I want to see all task bar buttons and not have them grouped. XP Taskbar menu offers check "Group similar taskbar buttons." I leave this unchecked, then Apply, then OK. XP still groups the similar buttons (e.g., Word doc1, Word doc2, etc.) instead of having these ungrouped.
If the option to enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is MISSING from your Folders Options > View > Advanced Settings, find this key in your registry:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvancedFolderHidden]Modify the string value "Type" and enter "group" as value data. After the edit is complete hit F5 to refresh, and go look in your Folder Options.
One of my user account for window xp proffesional is missing.Orginally i had one user account and then i decided to make another one. When I was making the second one I had to choose adminstrative powers because it said that I didn't had any other accounts with adminstrative powers. Then after i restarted my original account was missing and I was like wtf! My files are all gone now.The original account name was Administrator. I still have the files for it in my C:Documents and Settings Administrator So how do I get it back?
After a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?
Lost the auto run feature again. I think I received help from this forum previously to correct this, and it worked. I would appreciate the link again to get this feature back Using Win XP pro, SP 2 installed. This time I'll put the info on file.
Are there any software that will allow you to zoom on your XP desktop and navagete (move around while in xoom mode? I know Mac has this by holding a key and using schroll on your mouse. This is useful even while playing videos that dont have zoom feature in the player, or is there?
