Group Similar Taskbar Buttons Only For IE

Aug 11, 2005

I would like the Group similar taskbar buttons option only to apply to IE, but have a seperate button for each open word document. Is this possible? Also, how do I completely disable the add new hardware wizard. It
always pops up when I turn on my computer and tries to install a driver for my printer. None of the many methods and "workarounds" described online did anything to stop it.I have no desire at all for this feature, I can install drivers myself, and want to completely disable it.

Pro Taskbar With "Group Similar Taskbar Buttons?

Jul 24, 2005

With XP Pro SP2, I enable "Group similar taskbar buttons". I generally have my taskbar stretched 2 to 3 rows even so. Sometimes, when I have a lot of windows open, and the similar taskbar buttons group and stack themselves, so 1 button contains 2 or 3 open tasks, I can't get any action out of the buttons that represent multiple open tasks.

Any of the taskbar buttons that represent a single open task are fine. But any buttons that represent multiple open tasks don't respond. I have to do Alt -
Tab to bring a task to the front, if it's one of the tasks on a button that represents a group. Or I can go to Taskbar Properties, and deselect "Group similar taskbar buttons".

Taskbar Fails At NOT Group Similar Taskbar Buttons

I want to see all task bar buttons and not have them grouped. XP Taskbar menu offers check "Group similar taskbar buttons." I leave this unchecked, then Apply, then OK. XP still groups the similar buttons (e.g., Word doc1, Word doc2, etc.) instead of having these ungrouped.

CPU Usage Spikes / Not Similar Thread

Jun 21, 2008

I've looked at over 20 related forums on this site, all which haven't solved my problem. All I found useful was the turn off auto update trick that seemed to have brought my minimum usage down from 15 to 0-5.My computer reports free of malware, spyware, and viruses. I use Norton Antivirus, Spybot, Adaware, Panda Activescan, and AVG Anti spyware and have no processes running. When CPU spikes, only possible associated programs are services.exe and svchost.exe, but they only go to 20 at most. System idle process reports normal at 98-99. I'm using Sensors View Pro, which tells me my CPU isn't overheating because it stays at a consistent 3 degrees Celsius. I tried resetting the BIOS, that didn't work. I checked the IDE controllers in device manager to see if they had the correct transfer modes, which they did. I tried updating my MOBO drivers. I can't think of anything else I've tried at the moment.

The biggest thing that stumps me is that my computer isn't sluggish until I start gaming. I only play Battlefield 2, which doesn't require much resources to play and only sucks up about 400 mb of memory. The thing that aggravates me is when my Frames per second average between 10 and 25 and everything gets really REALLY slow. At first I just thought is was a problem with my gaming, but then I realized the bigger problem that my CPU jumps up and down like a heart monitor. I've attached my HiJack this log just in case

I really appreciate it if anyone can assist in solving my problem. I've really done a lot of research not just on this website and results are still inconclusive obviously. It's driving me crazy because I feel like I've tried everything so I feel it must be a hardware issue and then I don't know why it would be...GOSH! Thanks in advance to those brave enough to wrestle this monster!

Registry Backup Similar To Win98-Scan Reg

Jan 30, 2007

Win 98 / SE has a ScanReg.exe application, which on start-up picks up the 2 Registery files (System.Dat, User.Dat) plus 2 ini files (System.ini and Win.in) and compresses trhem as *.cab file - RBxxx.cab. The files are stored at WindowsSysBckUp folder. In case of improper shut-down or some just installed program cause problem, one can boot with F8 to command propmt and RESTORE the registery. Is there a similar functionality in Win XP - Professional or if not, any 3rd party software developer has created a software for that. Restore from Windows mode generally does not work and in case the registery is totally messed up, one does not have the running system, so the question of restoring the system, using SYSTEM RESTORE application does not arise.

Truncated Window Designations In Taskbar - Taskbar Grouping On

Jan 21, 2008

I've just switched from 98 to XP. I find now that the window designations in the taskbar for my *browser windows only* are severely and unaccountably truncated. My browser is IE6. Even if there's only one window open, if it's a browser window, only one letter will display. Other windows will properly display the full name. I've turned taskbar grouping on and off with no change. I've also run the SFC utility, with no change. There is no such problem in my Win98 machine, and my security settings (and all other settings) are the same. I don't wish to upgrade to IE7.

Domain To Work Group Problem With Pro

Feb 18, 2009

This will most likely be a "here we go again" type of thread, but I have not found any newer developments on this.Have a Dell Lattitude D610 laptop, running Xp Pro, SP2. Recently, I inadvertantly changed the net settings to workgroup, to set up a home network. Once this was done, I can not log on to the machine.History: this is a work laptop, however, the HD is mine (had viruses, so the company gave me a new HD). The two HD's were both from a master image Obviously, I could send the HD back to the techies at work, however, this is a 5 year old HD that we are talking about.I tried ophcrack to get the admin password, but none was found. There was a guest account, with no password, but it would not work.

SP3 Have No User / Group Network Services

Sep 1, 2008

I have 2 machines running XP Prof SP3. One of the machine (a Dell 1520 Laptop) was factory loaded with XP SP2 and then upgraded to SP3, the 2nd (a Lenovo Y510 Laptop) was freshly loaded with XP SP3 (slipstreamed). Both machines periodically show DCOM errors in the event viewer indicating the the user "NT Authority/Network Service" does not have sufficient launch/activiation privileges for a component service. I have followed numerous threads (some KB's directly from MS too) showing how to locate the specific service, add the user (if necessary), and enable the local/remote permissions. The problem I have on both these XP SP3 machines is that there is no user group object for "Network Service" so I can't add it under the add permissions screen. In the advanced screens I see several options that interestingly include these separate choices (amoung others):Has XP SP3 redefined these internal users, and are there any new solutions/workarounds for XP SP3?

Firewall Controlled By Group Policy

Nov 14, 2006

I have a home machine, running XP PRO, SP2. I am attempting to set up a small home network for the files transfer wizard and for internet usage. Internet usage was a snap, but I am having issues transferring my old files due to the Windows Firewall being controlled by a Group Policy. I have tried running gpedit and it is not recognized. I have no group policies that I have ever installed, and this is the first time that an ethernet card has ever been installed on this machine. Again, until now, I have not ever even heard of a group policy, let alone created one. It's driving me batty. I have searched all over for a solution, including Microsoft, but to no avail. Can anyone please help me?

Group Tasks In Any Number You Want Without TweakUI

Aug 12, 2002

This little tweak allows you to customize the grouping action on your taskbar. According to the default, if you have more than (ex.) 3 internet explorer windows open, XP will group them into a single button with a menu that lifts off the taskbar. You can change the number of windows that are open before XP groups them.goto[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced]look for the dword "TaskbarGroupSize"If it isn't already there, right click on the right pain, and create a new dword value. Double click the value, and enter the number of windows you want xp to allow open before it groups them. I personally like 2, because I like any related window to be grouped automatically, but, you can set this high if you wish.

Moving Pro User Off A Domain And Into Work Group

Sep 29, 2009

With the demise of a Primary Domain Controller, I'm replacing the server with a simpler Vista/Win7 power workstation to act as a peer file server. Right now, the three existing workstations are still logging into a Windows domain, but I'll need to change it for them to log into windows and be a part of a workgroup. I know there's a way to maintain settings, desktop, my-documents, etc, but it always seems I create the same userid on the local workstation, it re-creates everything and all the existing files, outlook, desktop are all under a different user in /documents and settings It can't be that complicated. Is there a step by step procedure for migrating a user from a domain to a local user & workgroup while keeping everything the same?
