Unable To Turn Off The Group Policy And Firewall?

Firewall Controlled By Group Policy
Nov 14, 2006I have a home machine, running XP PRO, SP2. I am attempting to set up a small home network for the files transfer wizard and for internet usage. Internet usage was a snap, but I am having issues transferring my old files due to the Windows Firewall being controlled by a Group Policy. I have tried running gpedit and it is not recognized. I have no group policies that I have ever installed, and this is the first time that an ethernet card has ever been installed on this machine. Again, until now, I have not ever even heard of a group policy, let alone created one. It's driving me batty. I have searched all over for a solution, including Microsoft, but to no avail. Can anyone please help me?

Enviormental Variables there was no PATH string. Only a PATHEXT one. I did
not touch this one. I added a PATH string with the following line
%SystemRoot%system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%system32WBEM which I believe
is correct. Still no MMC or Group policy editor.
The MMC still gives me the same error. I still cant get into the group policy editor or MMC. I tried yours and wesleys Ideas.

There is then a load of texted underneath that relates to the specific string. When you hit the OK button another one appeares and they just keep coming

However, i have a system that I only use for monitoriing and I hate having to continue to unlock it. Does anyone know of a way to have a phantom task take place that makes the system think its not idle?

Nov 23, 2008My home computer hard drive died. Critical data was backed up, so I didnt lose anything important, but Im having trouble with my replacement computer.I had another serviceable WinXP computer, two years old, that had never been connected to the internet, so job one after putting it on my desk was to download AVG antivirus. I did that.But when I tried to update the virus database, AVG Control Panel said the connection failed, and I couldnt download the updates. And when I checked my Security Settings, it says that the firewall is turned OFF. When I try to turn the firewall ON, the first error message says:

Unable To Open Microsoft Websites - Firewall Turned Off
Jan 6, 2009Iam anable to open any MS websites either with IE7 or FireFox. Able to open other websites. I have tried adding "s"to the "http"protocol,but no luck. Then went to internet options and unticked the "tsl"option in Advanced tab,again no luck! Thus iam not able to manually download updates.The XP pro has SP2 and SP3 installed. All the drivers are in place.To add to my woes ,SAS PRO and MBAM are not getting updates too!To survive i have installed AVG 8 Anti-virus and it too is not getting updated! I have turned off the windows firewall and the Comodo Firewall Pro. The KIS 2009 disk is not installing as it is not being accessed by the dvd drive( please see my post in "General security"). When i run the diagnostic tool--i get the message that the PC is unable to access the FTP and the http and https are fine!Please ask for any further info' which i've failed to mention

Aug 14, 2009I have a Gateway computer with Windows XP. I believe my computer keeps going into stand by mode. The power button is orange instead of green. When this happens I am not able to turn my computer back on. I have to unplug everything. When I plug it back in, the light is usually still orange but I just keep hitting the on and off button until it finally turns green and the computer will start up. I will now shut my computer down at night but when I get up in the morning the light on the computer is orange again.

So i did a little researching and figured out that no virus remover will be able to remove it since windows wouldn't allow me to delete or remove it in the first place.Thus the alternate method being the turning off of the system restore function and thereby deleting all system restore points. Although i came across a roadblock in that even though i am the administrator on my computer i am unable to check or uncheck the turn of system restore option in the system restore tab in the properties of My Computer.
