Back / Forward Buttons Go Missing
Nov 6, 2009I don't know where to post this question so I'll try here! Can somebody please tell me how to retrieve my back and forward buttons in Firefox? Don't even know how I lost them.

Opening Folders C / Back And Forth Buttons Are Slow
Jun 8, 2009Intel Core 2 duo, E8500 3.16, 4 gb RAM. Running XP sp3 I am pretty sure that I am not lacking in power. However, I am REALLY SLOW, when opening folders, and going back and forth using the back and forth buttons in XP. I click, I get an hour glass for a seconds then it initiates. I have cleared out my Prefetch folder, changed a few registry settings, yada yada. I just cant figure it out. This is a fairly new install, just did a zero fill on my HD about a month ago.

Aug 22, 2006I have a interesting problem. The OS buttons have gone missing. They are still there and you can click on them if you know the location but they are not displayed. For example if you bring up display properties all the tabs at the top, and all buttons on the screen are not drawn, nor are the text labels. And it is not only display properties, anything that uses the same draw tecniques no longer draw. And even stranger, it is this way even in safe mode.

Jan 9, 2007none of the task bar buttons show up on my task bar when I open a program. I'm not sure but this could be because of the 50 something language bars selected in the tool bars option when you right click the task bar, I don't even know how this is possible or how it happened.

Aug 21, 2008Recently I have noticed changes in my computer. It runs Windows XP SP2 and is only a few months old. Some problems I have found is that:The "Log Off" button in the start menu is missing. I cannot switch the control panel from the "New View" to the "Classic View". My computer no longer displays thumbnail previews of pictures. When I select the "Open With" function after right clicking, the notepad always opens too.

Jun 9, 2005I'm running windows XP home with SP2, keep it completely updated and run ad-aware Se (New one), Norton, AVG as well as Spybot S&D, but recently something really wierd's happened.All of the Internet explorer style buttons at the top of folder windows have dissappeared! Completely vanished without a trace. Instead, I just have a silver title bar across the top, with the Minimise, close and maximise buttons, and the name of the program. Anything underneath, (Such as an address bar, view, file etc buttons and navigational buttons) have gone.I still have them in Internet explorer, before anyone asks.. But it's most annoying, particularly when i get lost in a folder tree and can't back up without using the backspace key!

Oct 20, 2008I'm working on a computer with multiple issues, but one of them is that no Change, Remove, or Repair buttons are showing up in Add or Remove Programs. I've found several other posts started in other websites' forums that depict the same problem, but the best anyone can seem to do is provide a workaround. Nov 12, 2008I have just received my Acer Aspire 1690 Laptop back from Acer after repairs (was freezing all the time - they replaced optical drive, hard drive and main board).I am re-installing all my software but every now and then when a dialogue bx appears with a choice of buttons to click on there is no text so I don't know what buttons do what.It doesn't happen every time but seems to happen when the dialogue boxes and buttons are not the standard windows type but ones made by the software (ie. they may be bigger than usual) - if that makes sense?

Dec 3, 2007i'm pretty sure my entire fiasco has something to do with my registry.in my display properties i only have three tabs, screen saver, appearance, settings.in folder options "show common tasks in folders" is greyed out and "single click to open" is also greyed out and other options throughout certain settings are greyed out in speech properties the apply button is greyed out and when i click on audio input to adjust the volume the microphone volume it is way down and i bring it back up and press ok and go back and its down again.a lot of my settings are reverting back shortly after i apply them. its been like this for a couple months me being too lazy to do anything about it and before all this happened my system was working perfectly fine. then one day everything changed. i'm pretty sure its not a virus or a worm but i think something is wrong with my registry.

Jul 16, 2008Had to re-install XP2 Pro and Outlook Express 6. Need to figure out why I can't forward emails that contain images, such as jpegs. I receive the email with the jpeg in the message fine but when I forward the email the jpegs only show as the empty box with the "x" in top left corner. Before re-installing Xp and Office and OE6 I was able to do this. Is there a setting or configuration that I missed. I have set in OE6 Mail Sending Format to HTML with Send Pictures with Messages and Encoding Text as Quoted Printable. I'm using Yahoo as my mail server.

Feb 3, 2007I have had an ongoing problem with reinstalling xp pro where my hal.dll file suddenly goes missing. I thought it was an old harddrive problem but it just happened with one I bought not half a year ago.
I've read other forums and help sites about expanding it from the cd drive (which says it can't be done when I try) creating a new boot.ini, and writing a new boot sector. I've even reverted back to fdisking and formating with a windows 98 startup disk which worked for me a few times but now is seeming useless.

May 26, 2006I work from home and need to be able to email. A few days ago I started by getting Script Errors at the bottom of my pages anytime I tried to do anything, but read my yahoo mail. I asked yahoo's help desk for support and they had me check the java script and debugging, and try downloading updated IE. May 20, 2008I have had the error message file missing or corrupt/WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIG|SYSTEM , it says to load xp setup and then hit r when prompted to start repair , however every time i try to do this it just reboots and takes me back to the same message. I have tried booting from cd with xp disc and service pack2 but i dont get any setup screen/options and no option to repair. I really do not want to lose this machine as it has all my own self produced music on it and in the past i have lost 2 machines full of tracks to other hardware related problems.

Used HP's recovery console to run chkdsk and it fix errors on the volume. Wouldn't let me run the recovery disks I had to get from HP since they are not given with a new computer. Great I thought.Upon starting now, my antivirus won't run and a lot of Windows programs(Search adn System Restore just a blank page, Media Player, etc) .I can get IE to open up but no active X although it says it is enabled, also my home page doesn't show up at all but it is set to it. Those are some of the things I have found wrong so far as I am sure I have more.

It did something to my registry that now when i boot my computer i don't see any desktop icons on the desktop. All i see is the green windows background with the logo win xp home edition. i tried to get into the system restore by going thru the CTL + ALT+ Del then go in New Task and run to pop up the system restore point window. when i do that I get the system restore point window but the window is blank. No text no calender ( the usual restore point screen) to restore it to an earlier point. What do i do now.
