none of the task bar buttons show up on my task bar when I open a program. I'm not sure but this could be because of the 50 something language bars selected in the tool bars option when you right click the task bar, I don't even know how this is possible or how it happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a interesting problem. The OS buttons have gone missing. They are still there and you can click on them if you know the location but they are not displayed. For example if you bring up display properties all the tabs at the top, and all buttons on the screen are not drawn, nor are the text labels. And it is not only display properties, anything that uses the same draw tecniques no longer draw. And even stranger, it is this way even in safe mode.

Some problems I have found is that:The "Log Off" button in the start menu is missing. I cannot switch the control panel from the "New View" to the "Classic View". My computer no longer displays thumbnail previews of pictures. When I select the "Open With" function after right clicking, the notepad always opens too.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows XP home with SP2, keep it completely updated and run ad-aware Se (New one), Norton, AVG as well as Spybot S&D, but recently something really wierd's happened.All of the Internet explorer style buttons at the top of folder windows have dissappeared! Completely vanished without a trace. Instead, I just have a silver title bar across the top, with the Minimise, close and maximise buttons, and the name of the program. Anything underneath, (Such as an address bar, view, file etc buttons and navigational buttons) have gone.I still have them in Internet explorer, before anyone asks.. But it's most annoying, particularly when i get lost in a folder tree and can't back up without using the backspace key!

All I see is the frequency of usage of each program. I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and System Works on my PC. I called Symantec but they said, that has nothing to do with it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just received my Acer Aspire 1690 Laptop back from Acer after repairs (was freezing all the time - they replaced optical drive, hard drive and main board).I am re-installing all my software but every now and then when a dialogue bx appears with a choice of buttons to click on there is no text so I don't know what buttons do what.It doesn't happen every time but seems to happen when the dialogue boxes and buttons are not the standard windows type but ones made by the software (ie. they may be bigger than usual) - if that makes sense?
View 1 Replies View Relatedi'm pretty sure my entire fiasco has something to do with my registry.in my display properties i only have three tabs, screen saver, appearance, settings.in folder options "show common tasks in folders" is greyed out and "single click to open" is also greyed out and other options throughout certain settings are greyed out in speech properties the apply button is greyed out and when i click on audio input to adjust the volume the microphone volume it is way down and i bring it back up and press ok and go back and its down again.a lot of my settings are reverting back shortly after i apply them. its been like this for a couple months me being too lazy to do anything about it and before all this happened my system was working perfectly fine. then one day everything changed. i'm pretty sure its not a virus or a worm but i think something is wrong with my registry.

I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. My Windows XPHome ed. was preinstalled.

The start menu comes up when I hit the Windows Button on my keyboard but the taskbar does not appear. The start menu also pops up when I hit Ctrl+esc but without the taskbar. When I open up a program a little icon is created at the bottom and I can click through those, but no taskbar. I tried to see if I could resize it from the bottom but the resize arrows don't come up.

I have 3 different people, with no connection to each other, that have called me today.
All are running Win XP.Seems that they turned on their computers today or yesterday and all their icons are missing.The only thing that they are able to get to is the task manager, nothing else.I haven't heard of any virus'/ trojan's/ or malware resently that causes this and reading ton's of descriptions takes too long.
A friend of mine is running XP and has a bizarre problem that I can't figure out. Their desktop, start button and taskbar have completely disappeared. They can only run applications by using the task manager to manually browse to the application and launch. All of the apps work perfectly fine, it's just they have no desktop.I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but this one has me stumped.

Then last night for absolutely no apparent reason, when I turned it on and it booted up it immediately looked 'different'. The task bar had changed colour and several of the icons were missing. Also, pop up the message: wininet.dll is missing (twice).Now I am able to log in safe mode and can see all desktop icons start button and task bar but still I am unable to get all those in regular mode. Meanwhile, my Norton told me that computer has Bloodhound.W32.EP virus but unable to fix it.

I could then click on the 1 i wanted. it was very convenient because i didn't have to close all my windows to see the icons. View 1 Replies View RelatedTask scheduler does not appear in the services list. I am logged in under the administrator account and am using Windows XP Professional. Every time I try to start the task scheduler in control panel -> scheduled tasks it says 'Unable to start'. When I try to view the properties of a scheduled task I get error: 0x80041315 (This is a picture of the error. I reinstalled Windows Internet Explorer 7 but it still does not appear in the services list. I also used System file checker but it didn't fix it either. I do not have Task Scheduler listed in the services list. I really don't want to reinstall windows xp...is there some way I can get the Task Scheduler working again? (Also I've selected the Notify of missed tasks option but that doesn't seem to work either)
