Jun 26, 2006I hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and nothing happens. I tried a different keyboard, same result.

May 1, 2005new computer last month and we have not experienced any problems with it until yesterday. I had to use the ctrl+alt+del function for some reason, but when I entered those keys, a message came up that said "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." Ctrl+alt+del has worked previously, as recent as the day before. But for some reason it will not open up. No one in my family messed with the computer controls, at least not purposely. I called the Tech Support for HP, the maker of our computer, and they could not figure out the problem. Their only suggestion was to do a full system restore. Sep 6, 2008My computer seems to be slowing down and hanging up every so often. When I start XP I go into task manager and see bunches of programs runnings. A lot of *.exe files. How do I get rid of them?? How do I know which ones to get rid of? They may be virous, extra junk form previous installs? I do run Nortons anti-virous program. I don't want to reformat and reinstall XP but I may need to.

May 10, 2006I downloaded a bunch of spyware by mistake this morning from a link my friend gave to me, he was unaware as well. I was able to get rid of the majority of it, but there are a few things in my registry i am unable to delete, i used spy bot to get rid of most of the spy ware but for some reason it is not detecting the rest, also ad aware detects it but is unable to remove it since it is running in the background, i am unable to find the processs from task manager and end it so i cant delete it from the registry manually. What it is doing is bascially spamming pop ups on my pc every so often, here are the suspected names of the infections : mpise.dll , h22o0cf3ef2.dll , h62o0gf3e62.dll.

Jan 27, 2006I have a major problem. When I regularly start Windows XP home edition. It seems to run just fine, yet the mouse is at an hourglass for a good amount of time.Then, All the icons disappear, Start Menu goes away, Cannot open task manger or run anything. Computer then stalls with DLL.exe and svchost error messages.I ran a spybot scan and adaware. Only coming up with Jupilites and Smitfraud-C.Both have been cleaned.If I can find a way to transfer my HJT file from my laptop to the computer I am currently using, will posted as soon as possible.

Jun 26, 2005I don't know much about computers but I seem to be having a lot of disc activity since changing my hard drive and reinstalling windows xp. I've been to windows task manager & have enabled I/O Read Bytes & I/O Write bytes. When I'm doing nothing the following 3 programs are constantly changing. I've been online for about 3 hours now & these are the approximate figures:
ashserve.exe (Avast antivirus): read: 4,700,000,000 write: 3,700,000
svhost.exe: read: 705,000,000 write: 718,000,000
lsass.exe: read: 1,010,000 write: 540,000
Today is the 1st time my firewall reporeted that lsass requested internet access though this disc activity has been noticable since doing the reinstall.
Strange "exe" Shown In The Task Manger
Feb 4, 2009I have a HP Compaq Laptop 8510p.Since about 3 weeks, is an "exe" shown, which changes its name, after every start of the pc. This time its named XU8FE.exe, last time QBN4C.exe...and so on. A system scan for that files gets no results. Even in the registry is not such a file..The file is shown as a system process in the task manager.
Can anybody tell me, what kind of "exe" that is, and how to remove the causer of that file. I killed that process already (with admin rights possible) ..and there was no disturb during working with the pc.

I went to the notification area where you can choose to place the icon on the taskbar, but it's greyed out and I can't change the gray so that I can highlight. The compaq people have me uninstall a driver and that didn't help. We selected default setting s and that didn't help. I found instructions on Microsoft.help but they work only if you've got the cd. The start menu comes up when I hit the Windows Button on my keyboard but the taskbar does not appear. The start menu also pops up when I hit Ctrl+esc but without the taskbar. When I open up a program a little icon is created at the bottom and I can click through those, but no taskbar. I tried to see if I could resize it from the bottom but the resize arrows don't come up.

All are running Win XP.Seems that they turned on their computers today or yesterday and all their icons are missing.The only thing that they are able to get to is the task manager, nothing else.I haven't heard of any virus'/ trojan's/ or malware resently that causes this and reading ton's of descriptions takes too long.

Jan 13, 2006A friend of mine is running XP and has a bizarre problem that I can't figure out. Their desktop, start button and taskbar have completely disappeared. They can only run applications by using the task manager to manually browse to the application and launch. All of the apps work perfectly fine, it's just they have no desktop.I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but this one has me stumped.

Jul 13, 2008Task scheduler does not appear in the services list. I am logged in under the administrator account and am using Windows XP Professional. Every time I try to start the task scheduler in control panel -> scheduled tasks it says 'Unable to start'. When I try to view the properties of a scheduled task I get error: 0x80041315 (This is a picture of the error. I reinstalled Windows Internet Explorer 7 but it still does not appear in the services list. I also used System file checker but it didn't fix it either. I do not have Task Scheduler listed in the services list. I really don't want to reinstall windows xp...is there some way I can get the Task Scheduler working again? (Also I've selected the Notify of missed tasks option but that doesn't seem to work either)

I am trying to create a task using Task Scheduler, and it asks me to "set account information". I am given three boxes. One of them, marked Run as has "COMPUTERJesse" already filled in. The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. This is odd, because I am running under an Admin account (yes, generally not smart, but I'm smarter than the average bear when it comes to computers, so I feel confident I'm not going to mess it up with downloading viruses and such
I clicked OK to get out of the "Set Account Information" box, and in the entry for my task, the Status is listed as "Could not Start", Last Result is "0x0", and Creator is "Jesse". how can I get Task Scheduler to run the task and most of all, obey my authori-tah?
Task Manager And Task Bar Not Responding
Feb 27, 2006I recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?
