View 7 Replies View Relatednew computer last month and we have not experienced any problems with it until yesterday. I had to use the ctrl+alt+del function for some reason, but when I entered those keys, a message came up that said "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator." Ctrl+alt+del has worked previously, as recent as the day before. But for some reason it will not open up. No one in my family messed with the computer controls, at least not purposely. I called the Tech Support for HP, the maker of our computer, and they could not figure out the problem. Their only suggestion was to do a full system restore. I imagine there has got to be a way to fix this.System: Microsoft XP Home Edition. Service Pack 2 Make: Hewlett-Packard Pavilion
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy computer seems to be slowing down and hanging up every so often. When I start XP I go into task manager and see bunches of programs runnings. A lot of *.exe files. How do I get rid of them?? How do I know which ones to get rid of? They may be virous, extra junk form previous installs? I do run Nortons anti-virous program. I don't want to reformat and reinstall XP but I may need to.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded a bunch of spyware by mistake this morning from a link my friend gave to me, he was unaware as well. I was able to get rid of the majority of it, but there are a few things in my registry i am unable to delete, i used spy bot to get rid of most of the spy ware but for some reason it is not detecting the rest, also ad aware detects it but is unable to remove it since it is running in the background, i am unable to find the processs from task manager and end it so i cant delete it from the registry manually. What it is doing is bascially spamming pop ups on my pc every so often, here are the suspected names of the infections : mpise.dll , h22o0cf3ef2.dll , h62o0gf3e62.dll.

Computer then stalls with DLL.exe and svchost error messages.I ran a spybot scan and adaware. Only coming up with Jupilites and Smitfraud-C.Both have been cleaned. If I can find a way to transfer my HJT file from my laptop to the computer I am currently using, will posted as soon as possible.

Initially, I was unable to access my task manager screen until I ran Windows onecare scan. it cleared up the virus but I still cannot get into my regedit (it states registry editing has been blocked by your adminstrator). My background change occurred as a part of this virus....
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know much about computers but I seem to be having a lot of disc activity since changing my hard drive and reinstalling windows xp. I've been to windows task manager & have enabled I/O Read Bytes & I/O Write bytes. When I'm doing nothing the following 3 programs are constantly changing. I've been online for about 3 hours now & these are the approximate figures:
ashserve.exe (Avast antivirus): read: 4,700,000,000 write: 3,700,000
svhost.exe: read: 705,000,000 write: 718,000,000
lsass.exe: read: 1,010,000 write: 540,000
Today is the 1st time my firewall reporeted that lsass requested internet access though this disc activity has been noticable since doing the reinstall.
I have a HP Compaq Laptop 8510p.Since about 3 weeks, is an "exe" shown, which changes its name, after every start of the pc. This time its named XU8FE.exe, last time QBN4C.exe...and so on. A system scan for that files gets no results. Even in the registry is not such a file..The file is shown as a system process in the task manager.
Can anybody tell me, what kind of "exe" that is, and how to remove the causer of that file. I killed that process already (with admin rights possible) ..and there was no disturb during working with the pc.
System Windows 2000 Server, Amd Athalon.I am getting an error that states the follwing:SvcHost.exe : Error Message Tiotile bar, Description The instruction at 0x546tyh78 <some address> referenced memory 0x0000000. The memory could not be read. When I log in the system is pretty slow and i repetitively get these errors. I Cannot access the "Task Manager" by either the Control + Alt +delete option or by right clicking the application bar.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the Ctrl-Alt-Del combo on Windows XP Pro. I am attempting to get the task manager to open when the user hits ctrl-alt-del instead of the normal "Security Options" window (with the 'lock computer' options etc). The problem I see is that the only way to do this appears to be by enabling the Welcome Screen. how to get the Ctrl-Alt-Del to open task manager no matter what? I would even be happy completely disabling the ability to hit ctrl-alt-del.
The reason I am doing this is because I have some XP machines running some custom vendor software. This software will crash if the screen locks or the "Security Options" window is launched (Absurd, but apparently this is a bug in the software they can't fix...). There is no hope for the vendor to fix the bug, so I need to find a way to prevent the crash. Sometimes the tool will run for 300-400 hours, so if someone accidentally hits ctrl-alt-del it could possibly ruin hundreds of hours of tests.
I can't open my task manager anymore by pressing ctrl alt del... is there way around this or am I screwed?

When I do Ctrl+Alt+Del it opens the Task Manager instead of the Windows Security window(where you can change password, log out, open the Task Manager ect.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I press CTRL+ALT+DEL the task manager appears for a second, then minimizes itself to the icon tray. When I position the mouse over the icon it disappears. I've run Norton Antivirus, Ad-aware, Spy Sweeper and Microsoft Anti Spyware, but none of them identify a virus relating to this problem.

I'm usually pretty proficient in handling typical squirreliness with my computer but this one's a tough one for me to wrap my mind around. Here's my computer specs:Just recently I'd been gone to work and my girlfriend was at home on the computer. She usually goes on myspace, xanga, facebook a lot and generally doesn't stray far from those activities. I got home and she pointed out the computer was acting weird. When I hit ctrl+alt+del, the screen just gets a light blue sheen over it until I click and then it's gone with no sign of the task manager. Also in firefox I cannot use the ctrl keys. The left ctrl key when pressed immediately makes the font size in the window larger and larger and after 2 or 3 presses opens a new tab in firefox. The right ctrl key yesterday was opening a new tab going to gmail and today is doing a variety of things including going back a page and copying text to pages. I can't use any ctrl key combinations in any software without it doing something strange. In Azureus it opens a file's statistics.

I am trying to create a task using Task Scheduler, and it asks me to "set account information". I am given three boxes. One of them, marked Run as has "COMPUTERJesse" already filled in. The other two are marked Password and Confirm Password. This is odd, because I am running under an Admin account (yes, generally not smart, but I'm smarter than the average bear when it comes to computers, so I feel confident I'm not going to mess it up with downloading viruses and such
I clicked OK to get out of the "Set Account Information" box, and in the entry for my task, the Status is listed as "Could not Start", Last Result is "0x0", and Creator is "Jesse". how can I get Task Scheduler to run the task and most of all, obey my authori-tah?
I recently downloaded some media files and straight after my computer slowed down to a crawl and then would not respond. The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (windows XP pro) prompts me on start up to press ctlr+alt+del before it allows me to put my username and password to access windows. Now when i press ctrl-alt-del nothing happens so i cant get to the box to enter my log on details and get into windows... This is what I have tried
1. different ctrl-alt-del methods (only one del button so i am assuming that del is broken)
2. plugged in USB keyboard but it wont work (there are no PS2 ports on laptop to use either). I am guessing since windows isnt initiated then USB ports wont respond
4. booting in Safe mode doesnt bypass the ctrl-alt-del screen
5. tried installing a new laptop keyboard but too difficult to get out
6. tried XP recovery but i cant press numbers to select 1:Windows XP so im guessin the number keys dont work either
When I try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring windows task manager, nothing happens? Is there a setting for this?
