My task manager appears and disappears when i key ctrl+alt+del. It didnt start doing this until i clicked a link in AIM "new pictures from the beach". I know that's a virus and am not sure how to fix that either. They may be related? How can i fix this?

The memory could not be read.When I log in the system is pretty slow and i repetitively get these errors. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a question about the Ctrl-Alt-Del combo on Windows XP Pro. I am attempting to get the task manager to open when the user hits ctrl-alt-del instead of the normal "Security Options" window (with the 'lock computer' options etc). The problem I see is that the only way to do this appears to be by enabling the Welcome Screen. how to get the Ctrl-Alt-Del to open task manager no matter what? I would even be happy completely disabling the ability to hit ctrl-alt-del.
The reason I am doing this is because I have some XP machines running some custom vendor software. This software will crash if the screen locks or the "Security Options" window is launched (Absurd, but apparently this is a bug in the software they can't fix...). There is no hope for the vendor to fix the bug, so I need to find a way to prevent the crash. Sometimes the tool will run for 300-400 hours, so if someone accidentally hits ctrl-alt-del it could possibly ruin hundreds of hours of tests.
I can't open my task manager anymore by pressing ctrl alt del... is there way around this or am I screwed?

I can't see the taskbar anymore!! dont know what happen. When I restart or turn on my Pc I just cant see it for a few seconds then is gone. I have downloaded the taskbar tool you advice to download in a previous post but doesnt work for me when i clic on repair it shows only for a few minutes but then it disappears. I have tried using running my pc under safe mode, I click on the taskbar properties (the taskbar does appear under safe mode) and auto hide is not checked. I tried moving the taskbar in any other position of the monitor; but when i turn back to normal windows it can't stays on. I have used system restore on a previous date, it does not work either.

View 6 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.

The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully. The task bar and task manager do not respond at all, i can open files saved on my desktop but cannot do anything when they're open and cannot close them again. I reset my PC a number of times but this did not solve the problem. I assume this is a virus or spyware problem but could it possibly be anything else?

When I opened task manager there were several net.exe and net1.exe processes running. I would end a process and a new one would take its place. I scanned for spyware and viruses. The spyware that was found was cleaned. There were no viruses. When I ran in Safe Mode there were no problems.

my e6400 cpu does not show up in device manager. it shows up in the bios, and it shows up in the system information screen that lists your computer name, memory installed etc. it does not appear in device manager and task manager only shows one cpu. this is an intel core2 duo processor. system works good just doesnt show up in device manager in windows xp sp2.

I clicked some virus and opened it like a idiot I need smoe help removing it. Everytime I CTRL+ALT+DELETE, the task manager comes up then its killed for some reason. The same happened for when yuou try and bring up the *forgot the name* thing to make everythiung smaller on the harddrive to get more room.I have looked at several things to try and get rid of this virus, but its not working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm not able to open the task manger or it only stays open for a few seconds and closing. Even HJT gets closed after a few seconds. Both actually works right after the computer boots up but shut down in about 30 seconds. I was able to run a scan before it shut down.

First and foremost, when I try to open task manager it opens and then closes. When I try open hijack-this it opens and then closes. And sometimes it won't let me open IE. That's about the size of it.
