Get Task Manager Through Ctrl+Alt+Del
Dec 22, 2006System Windows 2000 Server, Amd Athalon.I am getting an error that states the follwing:SvcHost.exe : Error Message Tiotile bar, Description The instruction at 0x546tyh78 <some address> referenced memory 0x0000000. The memory could not be read.When I log in the system is pretty slow and i repetitively get these errors. I Cannot access the "Task Manager" by either the Control + Alt +delete option or by right clicking the application bar.

Oct 21, 2009I have a question about the Ctrl-Alt-Del combo on Windows XP Pro. I am attempting to get the task manager to open when the user hits ctrl-alt-del instead of the normal "Security Options" window (with the 'lock computer' options etc). The problem I see is that the only way to do this appears to be by enabling the Welcome Screen. how to get the Ctrl-Alt-Del to open task manager no matter what? I would even be happy completely disabling the ability to hit ctrl-alt-del.
The reason I am doing this is because I have some XP machines running some custom vendor software. This software will crash if the screen locks or the "Security Options" window is launched (Absurd, but apparently this is a bug in the software they can't fix...). There is no hope for the vendor to fix the bug, so I need to find a way to prevent the crash. Sometimes the tool will run for 300-400 hours, so if someone accidentally hits ctrl-alt-del it could possibly ruin hundreds of hours of tests.

Apr 12, 2006HELP Ctrl+Alt+Delete Wont Work I just recently tried to use Ctrl+Alt+Delete but it wouldn't work. I haven't recently installed anything I tried enabling everything from msconfig. Ctrl+Alt+Delete is supposed to be your last resort, the thing that always works, the last trick up your sleeve, the best weapon you have...but now it doesn't work.

Mar 25, 2008My browsers, particularly IE (6) dont always respond when I try to open them. With IE about half the time when I click the icon nothing happens. If a then check task manager IE is indeed running and taking up about 14K of memory, but it never opens. If I try opening it again another instance will just open under task manager and nothing will show up. Now if I end all the IE processes in there and then start IE again it'll be fine. But I need to get this fixed.

Jun 25, 2005I'm not able to open the task manger or it only stays open for a few seconds and closing. Even HJT gets closed after a few seconds. Both actually works right after the computer boots up but shut down in about 30 seconds. I was able to run a scan before it shut down.

Jun 22, 2005Well today I suddenly started having problems and you seem to know what your talking about so I thought I'd ask you.I ran a Trend Micro PC-Cillin Scan and it found the worm, WORM_MUGLY.I which I am working on removing. The problem is that part of removing that requires you to open your task manager and view processes which I am not allowed to do. I tried to run regedit but it opened up to an ms dos window which in the title bar said regedit.com. I ran registry cleaner, ad aware, and spybot search and destroy but to no avail.

Aug 30, 2005A friend of mine has a 4 yr. old PC running XP Home with 128Mb of memory. He's had problems with programs aborting recently. I tried to run Device Manager to make sure there were no issues there. It briefly brought the screen up, then it went away. The same thing happened to Task Manager when I tried to see what was running and how much memory was being used. Anybody ever see this behavior before? I might try installing a memory cleaner pgm (ie. Memturbo), but I'm not sure I would even be able to get it to run. The hard drive amd memory seem to have no errors.

The mouse pointer remains active but i cannot click on anything succesfully.
