I'm not sure what I did but out of nowhere I am missing the buttons that usually show up in an Explorer window, such as back,forward,the file, edit menus, and the address bar. How can I go about getting these back? I'm on XP 64-bit edition.
View 2 RepliesI have a interesting problem. The OS buttons have gone missing. They are still there and you can click on them if you know the location but they are not displayed. For example if you bring up display properties all the tabs at the top, and all buttons on the screen are not drawn, nor are the text labels. And it is not only display properties, anything that uses the same draw tecniques no longer draw. And even stranger, it is this way even in safe mode.

I'm not sure but this could be because of the 50 something language bars selected in the tool bars option when you right click the task bar, I don't even know how this is possible or how it happened.

Some problems I have found is that:The "Log Off" button in the start menu is missing. I cannot switch the control panel from the "New View" to the "Classic View". My computer no longer displays thumbnail previews of pictures. When I select the "Open With" function after right clicking, the notepad always opens too.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows XP home with SP2, keep it completely updated and run ad-aware Se (New one), Norton, AVG as well as Spybot S&D, but recently something really wierd's happened.All of the Internet explorer style buttons at the top of folder windows have dissappeared! Completely vanished without a trace. Instead, I just have a silver title bar across the top, with the Minimise, close and maximise buttons, and the name of the program. Anything underneath, (Such as an address bar, view, file etc buttons and navigational buttons) have gone.I still have them in Internet explorer, before anyone asks.. But it's most annoying, particularly when i get lost in a folder tree and can't back up without using the backspace key!

All I see is the frequency of usage of each program. I recently installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and System Works on my PC. I called Symantec but they said, that has nothing to do with it.

I've found several other posts started in other websites' forums that depict the same problem, but the best anyone can seem to do is provide a workaround. View 1 Replies View RelatedA classic, I don't what I have done scenario, but when I click on some buttons in Internet Explorer, they don't work, when right clicked they say 'Undo' etc, not the normal 'open page in new window thingy. (Can you tell by grasp of techie language that I am certainly not an expert??)Also, sometimes half the web page does not appear and sometimes nothing at all comes up at all.. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just received my Acer Aspire 1690 Laptop back from Acer after repairs (was freezing all the time - they replaced optical drive, hard drive and main board).I am re-installing all my software but every now and then when a dialogue bx appears with a choice of buttons to click on there is no text so I don't know what buttons do what.It doesn't happen every time but seems to happen when the dialogue boxes and buttons are not the standard windows type but ones made by the software (ie. they may be bigger than usual) - if that makes sense?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi'm pretty sure my entire fiasco has something to do with my registry.in my display properties i only have three tabs, screen saver, appearance, settings.in folder options "show common tasks in folders" is greyed out and "single click to open" is also greyed out and other options throughout certain settings are greyed out in speech properties the apply button is greyed out and when i click on audio input to adjust the volume the microphone volume it is way down and i bring it back up and press ok and go back and its down again.a lot of my settings are reverting back shortly after i apply them. its been like this for a couple months me being too lazy to do anything about it and before all this happened my system was working perfectly fine. then one day everything changed. i'm pretty sure its not a virus or a worm but i think something is wrong with my registry.

The missing programs aren't listed in the Uninstall registry key and I'm confident there are not viruses on the machine.

When I open "my documents" or any other folder on my computer, the top toolbar isn't present.I can't access the file menu, change folder views, or anything.I've run several checks for viruses or malware using McAfee and AdAware with no significant results.I suspect it's a problem in Windows, but I can't figure out how to repair it.I keep Windows up to date, and running extremely lean. I have few extra processes running.I attempted a system restore back to the day before the problem occurred. Upon startup, I would get an error message stating Windows Explorer Must Close. View 12 Replies View RelatedI keep my mp3's in one folder, called mp3 (of course). There used to be a load of columns for album, artist, duration, etc etc, but they are now all missing. I've tried the obvious way of adding them back again, but the options aren't there anymore (view - details, choose details). Also - and this may be a helpful clue, when I hover the cursor over the mp3's I no longer get the pop up details of the file other than the basic MP3 file and file size - same if I click on it -in the left hand pane of explorer there are no longer details about the file.

Completely at random, the windows Explorer has lost all it's toolbars. Not a big problem, but still a minor annoyance.The strange thing is that internet explorer, when opened and pointed to c: for instance has the appropriate toolbars. (plus IE's links bar) However, explorer is toolbarless, but there is apparently something that can be dragged, meaning the double-headed arrow appears but nothing is actually drag-gable.Also, something I noticed that may or may not be normal behavior: When I double click on the icon at the top left of the title bar, it closes the window.

I used the replacer, to replace some XP files with Win 7 ones (including explorer.dll) and I did everything as it was supposed to. After the reboot, my explorer was missing (files, folders, menu bar, everything).So, I open the task manager, click on "New Task...", type in "explorer.exe" and it says: "explorer.exe is not a valid Win32 application". Then, I click on "Browse...", go to C/Windows and there are 2 explorer files. explorer.exe and explorer.scf. When i double click on .scf, it also says that "explorer.scf is not a valid Win32 application.I've been googling for hours now, but haven't found an answer to my problems. And I really don't feel like re-installing or repairing my current Windows.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIt all happened 2 days ago on my Compaq Presario R3000 laptop when I decided to uninstall the newest version of Internet Explorer 7. Because I didn't like Internet Explorer and all the stuff I heard about it containing some bugs, I decided to uninstall it.So I went through Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and searched for Internet Explorer 7. I clicked on the one that only said "Internet Explorer 7" and it took me to this uninstalling phase.
It then warned me that most programs would "freak out" if I have done so by uninstalling Internet Explorer 7. So I decided to ignore it and take the risk, a risk that I was going to pay very soon.It took a few minutes of deleting the files and stuff, then I had to reboot, upon logging on to my account this error message pops up stating: "This application has failed to start because iertutil.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using windows xp.When I right click on Start and then go to Explorer, my standard toolbar and buttons are missing. I've tried everything - right clicking, that only gives me the choice to close the "toolbar" which are just all the folders on the left on the screen.When I go to my computer from the start menu on XP, the standard toolbar and buttons are there, just missing when I right click on the start menu. I could live without it, but it is my habit to get to my folders that way and it is really annoying not to have the menu options.
