Hibernation Tab Missing From Power Options?
Oct 11, 2006
I need help from you guys. I install win XP pro on my young brother PC but the HD can't install 2 files. I skipped them. Windows boots up normally.I used this CD for installation on my own pc without any problems. Is the CD corrupted? Why does the hibernation tab mission from power option? Is this due to missing video driver? I already check BIOS; it has hibernation feature.

I'm running WinXP pro and have lost all the reguler power schemes from the power options propreties window. Also I'm unable to Save a new scheme.I beleive the schemes where deleted from the power properties window by right clicking and selecting delete. They used to be there anyway Unknown is listed above Turn off monitor-Turn off hard disks-System standby-System hibernates and everything is greyed out. They are still listed in the registry but with no value set.How do I go about getting the schemes back?

Recently my laptop starts to hibernate/shut down randomly, which is really annoying. I saw on web that lots of ppl have same problem, but in addition to theirs, my problem includes:
-it is certain that it's not over heating, because once it hibernates randomly, I went away for about 30 minutes to let it cool, then as soon as I turn it off, it IMMEDIATELY goes into hibernation again! without me even seeing the enter password screen!
-I have my laptop plugged into mains all the time
-I tried disabling hibernation through power option, but it still happens. when I can turn laptop back on, I found that the "Enable hibernation" box is magically checked!
-I reinstalled window xp about half a month ago, with updates and anti-virus. but this never ever have happened b4 I reinstalled the OS
-the case of "it hibernates as soon as it is turned on" has happened serveral times
-I use AVG anti-virus, and it detects no malware (however, I can not guaranteer there is absolutely no malware in my laptop)
-Once, it did not even hibernate, it just goes off instantly: as if I unplugged the mains and battery.

I just installed XP Pro SP2 onto this toshiba laptop (fairly good;1.4ghz intel celeron M,512 ddr ram, wireless nic,ati graphics and such) and it seems that standby and hibernate wont work AT ALL. Standby is grayed out in the turn off computer menu and the hibernate tab does not exist in the power options utility in control panel. I've googled around a bit and found no specific option in the BIOS to enable or disable it and as far as i know this laptop SHOULD support it...i mean come on what kind of laptop doesn't standby or hibernate?

Dell xps 400, pentium2.80 ghz dual core, 1 gig ram, win xp media center op sys. Just bought a new microsoft cordless mouse with usb connection for transmitter. With mouse plugged in my monitor will not power down after the amount of minutes I have set in power options nor will it go to screen saver if I choose a screen saver which I did just to test. So, I turned off screen saver and just chose in the power option panel to turn off monitor after five minutes, chose to hibernate never or suspend never. Will not work with mouse plugged in, but will work if I unplug mouse.

I searched around the forums and didnt find any thread relating to my problem. I searched around the internet as well and found similiar issues but none with a solid solution. I was hoping to find one here. My problem deals with the Power Scheme in Windows XP Pro SP2. When I try to set the amount of time before my monitor turns off, it doesnt work properly. After the specified time has elapsed, the monitor would go dark and it would say "Monitor is going into sleep mode" which is normal for my monitor (HP f2105 wide flat screen lcd). But then just as it sleeps, about 1 second later, my windows desktop appears like it never went to sleep at all. When I move my mouse I notice my desktop flickers for a split second.Similiar threads on the net suggested there were some third party programs that is keeping my system active or things like my mouse sensitivity moving etc. I tried removing all my perperphials but it still doesnt seem to work.
I recently reformatted my machine and installed the essentional programs/windows updates/etc. I run on a ATI X1950 PRO 512MB video card and installed the new Catalyst 7.12 software package for my drivers. Everything was working perfectly. The Monitor turn off option even worked then.... until I noticed this new driver package seems to be a bit buggy. My monitor would turn black as I would be viewing videos off the internet with my WMP or whatever Im using and all I am left to do is reset by pressing my power button or switching the PSU button (Although strangely, 3D applications ran flawlessly). So I got an earlier version Catalyst 7.10 and installed that and everything is working awesome again... execpt the Power Scheme mode to turn off my monitor. I am unclear on why it would be doing this by just installing another set of drivers for my video card. I am assuming there is some mix up in some file somewhere thats still being used, but thats just pure guessing now.
I recall even before I reformatted I had the *SAME* issue. I was using video drivers 7.8 or so without any problems and decided to update to the latest 7.12 and thats when I *FIRST* noticed that power scheme monitor turn off didnt work any longer. So I decided it was time to do a fresh clean install and I used the Catalyst 7.12 and it worked with the power scheme option. Its this transition between drivers or something... or perhaps ATIs drivers are faultly at the moment and it'll fix itself with future updates... but then again other people around the net with similiar problems didnt have ATI video cards, they had Nvidia.I am assuming it has to do with my video drivers somehow since thats the last thing I installed/changed before the problem appeared. I went into MSCONFIG and diagnostic startup and checked to see if my power scheme monitor turn off worked there and it did..I was hoping to find an easier solution rather then narrowing down each and every startup application/services in MSCONFIG and then figuring out why its doing this all just to turn off my monitor.

I am not sure how this happened, but it did anyway. During my problem with system restore, I created my own power scheme called test. I have noticed that I am missing some power schemes now when I try to access them using the power options choice on control panel. I am missing "always on" "presentation" "minimal power management" and "max battery".I don't know why they don't appear in the drop down menu under power schemes as "home/office" and "portable/laptop" and my "test" schemes are there.I have found these schemes exist in my registry in several locations by typing "powercfg" in the registry editor.Hopefully someone will know how to restore them. Is there an *.inf file to right click to reinstall? I found a bunch, just not sure which one it might be.

I had a thread about this before, but I'm back where I started. This time, tweak UI is not working for me.When a user purchases or reformats Windows XP, what are the default options for the File>New or Right-Click>New, and how can I restore them? I know I'm missing creating new text documents, but I know there must be other items as well.

Recently our computer (running Win XP Service Pack 3, 512MB RAM, Hard Drive approx 33% full) has starting running really slow... Like taking 3+ minutes to open a Word doc. But mostly it seemed to be the internet that was running super slow. We have run our Norton and Ad-ware (malware & spyware program) and found nothing.Today, I was unable to even get IE8 to open. I kept getting the "(Applicationname.exe)has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I would like to disable the Sticky Keys feature that makes a box open up when I hold down or repeatedly use the shift key. I am unable to access the settings to change this because of missign Accessibility options. Not only are they missing but the ones that are available at Start/Control Panel/Accessibility do not function. When clicking on an option a box appears saying "window could not find the file."I would like to reinstall my missing mircrosoft features but to start with I would like to disable sticky keys.

I've got a very strange problem with my right click menu where if I right click something, file or empty space, the menu pops up with options missing. I'll open an application/program and the right click menu will lose some more options... eventually I'm left with no menu at all, I right click and nothing happens, and left click and I can see from the animations on buttons that the computer is recognising a click, but nothing happens. If I close a program, part of the menu comes back. This happens for any and every program, programs which I've been using for years. I always keep my antivirus software up to date and scans detect no viruses. I system restored back two months and the problem was still there. Today I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP as a last resort to get rid of this issue, and it's still there! I have no idea what it is, what's causing it or why it's happening, and I can't find any way to get rid of it other than continue to close programs to restore options, but that's not good enough because eventually I end up with no programs left to close and the only way for my clicks to work again is to reboot.

My laptop used to connect automatically to the Internet via wireless. Now, I have to hit Repair (I use Windows XP Home). The default (and only Wireless option I have) doesn't appear at first, under available wireless connections, and sometimes Repair doesn't work. I have a feeling that some of the options are missing, in the Wireless Network Connections Properties/General area. My computer shows File and Printer Sharing for MS Networks, QoS Packet Scheduler and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

To get to XP Pro's Performance Options window I use: I use Control Panel > Systems > Advanced > Performance Options. There I find there is no yellow tooltip popup help information when I click the question mark in the top right of the window (next to the big red X) and then click one of the entries such as "fade out menu
items after clicking". Is this true for all XP systems? Or is mine missing? BTW if I click the advanced to on the same window and then click the question mark and then an item such as "system cache", I *do* get the
yellow popup tooltip info box.
