when i open my pictures from the start menu, the left hand side of the screen used to have a lot of options such as slide show ,move folder. now the icons
cover the whole screen. i have also lost filmstrip from the view menu.
Sometimes I will get a picture emailed to me that is a blank square with an "x" in a small box in the left hand corner. I can't seem to do anything with these photos except delete them. Is there some software that I'm missing? (I have WinXP.) Is there a way for me to open the pictures?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem since upgrading to XP a few months ago. About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.

1. I cannot find the internet option tab anymore. It is not anywhere.
2. Right clicks are not working. I cannot save pictures or add any favorites when I right click.
3. Cannot print from most websites.
4. I cannot activate ActiveX.
Just happing a little outlook express problem, All emails I open, including newsletters and things I get from sites, no pictures on the page show, I just get a little [X] instead, like, if I have a email from ebay, there are heaps of these [X]'s all over the place where a little pic should be?

I've tried the Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools way and also tried Start/Run/msinfo32.exe and again through the HelpandSupport page and the same thing happens. Have searched the net and found other people who have the same problem and tried some suggestions but nothing has worked so far. I know I can do a re-install but don't want that route if there's no other way.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past two weeks, when I start or restart my Dell Dimension 8250 running Windows XP Home Edition, it passes through a blue page with a Windows label that says: "Checking the file system on C; The type of file is NTFS; Cannot open volume for direct access; Windows has finished checking the disk." Otherwise the computer seems to start up normally and operate as usual. Something has changed and I don't know what the problem may be.

Tried installing Windows Defender, and it couldn't find her "My Pictures" folder so it didn't install. So I looked under her My Documents folder. It's missing the My Pictures and My Music folders. Plus, the other folders that are there, such as My Videos, etc., their icons are not special, they look like ordinary folders.Her computer's "Shared Documents" section looks fine, with all the usual folders with special icons, etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning I wanted to make a back up cd of my documents and I burned it. After, I went into Picasa, where I HAD thousands of photos. Nearly all are gone! The "My Pictures" folder is also gone from "My Documents" on the hard drive, as is all the folders I had in "My Documents." The files seem to be on the cd, but I am not sure they are all there. WHY oh, WHY would the files and photos be GONE from my hard drive? How could just making a cd cause the files to disappear? I can't tell you what a tragedy this is! I had thousands of photos that I had edited and projects I had created. Dates that were with photos are gone, since all the dates now show today's date since that is when I burned the cd. As a possible troubleshooting thought--twice I have tried to start my computer and it has frozen at the "windows is starting up" screen, not even getting to the place where I put my password as an authorized user. Please help. I did try a restart and nothing had changed.

I am unable to access the settings to change this because of missign Accessibility options. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a very strange problem with my right click menu where if I right click something, file or empty space, the menu pops up with options missing. I'll open an application/program and the right click menu will lose some more options... eventually I'm left with no menu at all, I right click and nothing happens, and left click and I can see from the animations on buttons that the computer is recognising a click, but nothing happens. If I close a program, part of the menu comes back. This happens for any and every program, programs which I've been using for years. I always keep my antivirus software up to date and scans detect no viruses. I system restored back two months and the problem was still there. Today I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP as a last resort to get rid of this issue, and it's still there! I have no idea what it is, what's causing it or why it's happening, and I can't find any way to get rid of it other than continue to close programs to restore options, but that's not good enough because eventually I end up with no programs left to close and the only way for my clicks to work again is to reboot.

The default (and only Wireless option I have) doesn't appear at first, under available wireless connections, and sometimes Repair doesn't work. There I find there is no yellow tooltip popup help information when I click the question mark in the top right of the window (next to the big red X) and then click one of the entries such as "fade out menu
items after clicking". Is this true for all XP systems? Or is mine missing? BTW if I click the advanced to on the same window and then click the question mark and then an item such as "system cache", I *do* get the
yellow popup tooltip info box.
