Sometimes I will get a picture emailed to me that is a blank square with an "x" in a small box in the left hand corner. I can't seem to do anything with these photos except delete them. Is there some software that I'm missing? (I have WinXP.) Is there a way for me to open the pictures?
View 5 Replieswhen i open my pictures from the start menu, the left hand side of the screen used to have a lot of options such as slide show ,move folder. now the icons
cover the whole screen. i have also lost filmstrip from the view menu.
I've been having a problem since upgrading to XP a few months ago. About 75% of the times that I open up "my pictures" in "my documents" (where I store lots of my digital photos) I get the error message where it asks you if you want to send an error report. Whether I choose to or not, or even if I simply shut the message, "my pictures" closes and I therefore cannot access the folder. The other 25% of the time it opens fine.As I say, it's just photos and short videos stored in here, all taken by my own digital camera. Virus and other problem checkers haven't detected anything, and there's no reason to suspect these files are infected with anything.

View 11 Replies View RelatedShutting down a game many of my desktop icons e.g. recycle bin, network environment and all the shortcut folder icons created by myself suddenly turned to square (undefined) default icons that are familiar to us from Windows 95. When I click 'My Computer' I discover that also the icon of drive C and the floppydisk 3,5 drive icon have changed to default icons. Additionally, all the standart yellow foldericons now show default icons.
Before I have occasionaly used register cleaning programmes such as the free CCleaner and the Uniblues shareware Registry Booster with no problems. I have always taken a complete backup of the Register in case something goes wrong. Also, I have understood that no change in the register takes effect unless you restart the computer. Am I wrong here?
After a quick check I notice that all the installed software function correctly. All written documents are there and they open correctly in their respective programmes. I've tried to change the icons by right clicking "properties/customise/change icon" but it doesn't work. The computer does not allow you to change the icons that vanished. When you try to change the icon, you are by default navigated to system 32 folder with shell32.dll file. I presume this is the main icon library of xp. All the pictures are present there but those that are "broken" approx. 12 of them showed at the beginning of the list cannot be used anymore, for instance the standard yellow folder icon among them. The rest of the icons (say 100 or more of them) are available..............
I have Windows XP Home and SP2 installed. Also I have AdAware, Spybot, Search and Destroy, MacAfee virsusscan and MS AntySpyware. Yesterday and today, I noticed that several icons on my desktop changed to a generic white square. Even as I'm writing this message, two more changed. What's going on? How to stop icons from changing?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI want to put the pictures that I saved from the My Pictures folder back to the My Pictures folder. I have set one of them as the new desktop background. (It was before the format).I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.

While everything is working normal the virtual drive icons assigned to the virtual drives appear in the explorer view as a square with dots. Additionally now when I install a Kingston USB drive the system assigns a similar icon to it. I am running Win XP Pro with SP 2 and I have tried reloading the software but it didnt help. I also looked for all settings in the software but there are no settings for icons in the explorer view. The system is also configured with a DVD and a CDRW but their icons in the explorer view are ok

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have taken a series of pictures on different days and downloaded them into a folder in My Pictures. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in
After a few days of work, the user cannot open new windows explorer or other application windows. Nothing happens if she tries to. If she closes one window, then she's able to open a new one. The "allowed" number of opened windows varies from time to time, sometimes being as low as 4, but sometimes around 10 to 12. The performance tab in the task manager is completely blank (see screenshot). Some Windows explorer menu bars sometimes are blank, and a windows logo appear instead of the menus (see screenshots).
Rebooting fixes the problem, but it comes back a few days later. The laptop is part of a domain, running generally the same applications as other desktops and laptops in the domain, running the same antivirus, etc. The virus definitions are up to date, and a full scan has been run. Even stranger is the fact that when it happens, Windows XP doesn't even seem to be unstable, nor does it crash in any way. Just seems as if there was a limit on the number of processes or handles or threads allowed to run.

Swap file: initially set to 2046 mb and max is set at 4092 mb
Processor scheduling and Memory usage are both set to "Programs"

I am using an old Dell with XP and Internet Explorer 7. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes.The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera.
I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos.
tried to back up("burn" ) some files onto a cd but it is not recognizing when
I put a blank cd in the drive. Also, in properties it shows that the drive
is full...this is with the blank cd!
When I try to boot XP in normal mode, the PC boots fine, but I have no display. I can boot in all 3 safe modes. How do I fix?

When I opened the link the pictures opened up, I then clicked on the red x in the corner on both of them as I thought they had saved automatically to my documents or my pictures. When I put CD in drive and click on My Pictures, under the Picture Tasks on the left side menu, there is no item COPY TO CD. There is only copy this file under the file and folder tasks. I have noticed in various other places on my PC that certain random folders also display an album cover.why is this, i have tried to select the restore to default but it seems to not wipe the folders clean. i hope this makes sense, its kinda annoying me that this is happening.

I recently purchased a new computer that came free with it's own Photo Shop program, so every time I try to edit a picture in My Pictures folder it opens THAT program instead of PAINT, which is what I want to edit the pictures in. Anyone got any clues how to set it right?
When attempting to Edit photos in My Pictures, window pops up advising that, "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
