Yesterday I burned a dvd perfectly. Today I try it and alls I get is Blank CD message. I've tried like 20 other blank dvd's and the same problem keeps happening. If anymore information is needed I'll be glad to supply that.
when I power on my computer system, monitor and box, here is what happens. My box turns on fine but my monitor remains blank as it makes a click, click, click sound. Each click turns the green power light on and then off, on then off, for about 60-90 seconds. When the monitor finally responds and turns on I am at the boot page in Windows. Here is what it says: The previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to the default settings.
After a few days of work, the user cannot open new windows explorer or other application windows. Nothing happens if she tries to. If she closes one window, then she's able to open a new one. The "allowed" number of opened windows varies from time to time, sometimes being as low as 4, but sometimes around 10 to 12. The performance tab in the task manager is completely blank (see screenshot). Some Windows explorer menu bars sometimes are blank, and a windows logo appear instead of the menus (see screenshots). Rebooting fixes the problem, but it comes back a few days later. The laptop is part of a domain, running generally the same applications as other desktops and laptops in the domain, running the same antivirus, etc. The virus definitions are up to date, and a full scan has been run. Even stranger is the fact that when it happens, Windows XP doesn't even seem to be unstable, nor does it crash in any way. Just seems as if there was a limit on the number of processes or handles or threads allowed to run.

I have been searching the web for solutions but cannot find any forum post describing the same problem. Thank you for any help.
tried to back up("burn" ) some files onto a cd but it is not recognizing when I put a blank cd in the drive. Also, in properties it shows that the drive is full...this is with the blank cd!
My internet homepage is currently set to about:blank and no matter what I try, it won't go away. The internet and the whole system are slower and there are pop-ups galore. I have used the programs About:Buster, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot SD, and of course Hijackthis (after getting it analysed) but to no avail. It always comes back. What can I do to get rid of it? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot. Here's my HJT log:

I just transacted a purchase on-line and want to chat with a sales rep. When I enter my purchase code and hit submit, I get a blank box titled about:blank - Microsoft Internet Explorer. Is this spyware or what? How can I resolve this issue?
Every time I make a home page on my internet explorer and close the page, when I reopen it goes back to "about:blank" Yeasterday I also got redirected from the google search results to other places.
I have been having a problem with a "blank icon" that pops up on my desktop. I'm sure it's from Real Player, and I can't get rid of it unless I completely uninstall Real. This is a description of the blank icon...YOUR-78D053ADA8/DESKTOP BLANK.I have run Ewido, CCleaner, Reg Mecanic,Trend Micro Anti-Spyware,Avast, and whatever it is comes up clean.
When I set the screensaver as "none", there is a black screen as the screensaver. How do I set it as NOTHING, meaning there is no screensaver (not the black blank screen). It used to be like that.. and I use to leave my computer on all night and still see the desktop.
Hey my screen will go blank like it's starting up the screen saver after a few minutes on my PC. Then it will go back to what i was doing can i fix this?
I'm running Windows XP. When I boot the system all I get is the background. No icons, no taskbar, no Start button. I ran Spybot, Adaware, AntiVir. I also ran HijackThis and here are the results: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 12:06:15 PM, on 3/11/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)

My computer is having some trouble. When I try to boot it up I get nothing from the monitor(LCD). This happened a while back and all I did was took the power cord to the monitor out, and plugged it back in. It worked like that for 2 months or so. Today he calls me and he is having the same problem. So again I unplugged the cord and replugged it back in. I got signal but it immediately went blank again. It will only work for 1 second. What could be causing this do you think? I hooked up two other monitors to his computer also. One of them (older one not sure if it works 100%, wouldn't see why not) would BOOT up fine, then once you got to login it would go black, and do exactly what the LCD did. I could unplug it plug it back in for some video. Then I brought over my monitor. It works 100% and I didn't get any video at all with it. I tried other power cords/outlets etc. What do you guys think it could be?
When I boot up the system I see the winXP splash screen, then I get an absolutely blank desktop. No icons or taskbar. Mouse pointer is there and responds to movement. Ctrl-alt-del does nothing. When I try to boot into Safe Mode I get the same deal, except I can see the safemode in each corner and the header that tells me which version I'm running. I've tried repair installations and yet still have the same problem. I had a spare hard drive lying around so I put it into the system and then did a fresh install of XP into that with no problems. That drive works fine. I've replaced explorer.exe amongst other system files that I read about in the other posts to no avail. I can read the drive that has the bum version of XP via the fresh install but am blocked from accessing any of the files.
A curious problem I'm having. All dvd's, cd's, game cd's are showing as blank in explorer. I've upgraded the firmware on the drives, checked the connections etc but still nothing. Weirdly audio cd's seem to show and work in Itunes so I'm guessing it might be to with associations right or have i disabled a service by mistake?
There are 2 accounts in my XP Pro SP2 machine, one has admin rights, the other is limited. When I log into the limited account then log off, Windows does not return me to the welcome/login screen, instead it gives me a blank screen (my monitor, which uses DVI, gives me "No signal"). Pressing any key will not wake the computer. The only resort is to press the Reset button. I expect this to be either software or hardware incompatibility.
Strange thing happening here, when I close IE 7 I get an aboutblank page and then a send error to microsoft box. I have never seen aboutblank come up when closing browser window. The default home page loads fine when starting IE 7
I tried to open an flv file in Winamp and XP froze up, and do not start up again except in Safe Mode. The XP splash screen comes up, but then the screen goes blank.
This is very weird, it just started recently happening. I have two accounts on my computer, my account, and a guest account. My account works. However, when I log on to the guest account (which my other family members use), it just shows the background and no taskbar or desktop or nothing, just the background of the guest user and the thing just keeps loading until you need to turn off the computer.I've left it there for over an hour loading. So I tried created a account titled Family for everyone else but it's the same thing. What's the problem here?
This one has stumped me but I believe the cause is related to the million versions of security dlls MS has created pre-and post sp2.
The symptoms:
Linked popups in IE generate a blank window.
Event viewer property pages do not open Services property pages do not work Javascript "A disk error has occurred during a read operation" Firefox opens the window but also adds a second blank one for a popup Links in outlook emails open fine in new window AOL webmail works correctly new window with email in it
Since this behavior arrived out of the blue and is specific I believe some proximate events were:
Install and de-install Pluck (RSS browser tool) Install and de-install Java V1.5 SE AOL homepage saying it was upgrading (AOL mail does work)
To resolve this I have:
Used Iefix to deinstall reinstall IE Updated to all fixes sans sp2 run sfc /scannow downloaded current scripting engine from MS re-registered all suggested dlls for ie6 run current Macafee on everything gone through MS knowledgebase
I did find two other users having the same problem with an extensive list of possible resolutions, none of which have worked.
My computer was running alright, no viruses or anything. Then suddenly, we turn it on one day and its stuck at the hp screen. Not booting, just with the hp logo. I restart it, and after 2 tries, and some beeps, it boots. Gettin all scared and worked up, I run a spyware scan and a virus scan. I found a few trogans and deleted them. To test it, I turned it off and restarted again. Didnt have any problems. After a few hours it began to beep and got extremely slow. I turned it off. Ever since then, all I've been getting is a blank screen. Its as if its not getting power. The mouse and keyboard dont light up and the screen is blank. If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it. I've searched the forum but the problems similiar to this that i've found involve the pc actually doing something before the blank screen comes up.
I tried to install XP Pro over ME. I ran the choice to scan first to see if there were conflicting programs. I uninstalled them (I thought). Now every time I boot up the black screen wants me to choose 1. Windows ME or 2. Cancel XP Installation.I now have to chose and ME because everytime I try to install XP it won't finish and gives me a variety of error messages including 'No server pk 2'(which I have downloaded again but it was already there). The worst thing is I lost my HP Photo Smart printer connection and I can't uninstall and reinstall because something is corrupt. It won't read downloaded printer drivers and asks me which program to open them. How does a normal person know this? Should I stop messin' around with this and take it to COMP USA?And I lost my system restore dates and can only restore the day all of this happened. I have a Dell 8100 Dimensions PC
I have an XP SP2 pc that when I click on Start -> All Programs the Menu is blank and locks down. Everything else seems to work just fine, but the blank menu stays up and is unresponsive. I have run extensive spyware/virus scans with up-to-date definitions that have found nothing.
When accessing different web sites that has a drop down menu (i.e. trying to buy something online and the web site is asking you to input your CC information and provides you a drop down menu to select which country your from and/or a expiration date), the selections are blank. It appears that there is something there for me to select (As if it's White Font on a White Background
I go to switch on my pc to do some work and boots up fine asks me to log in as per usual..log in is fine but does not get to the desktop. Instead a Blank Dialogue box with with a red circleand white cross appears with yes or no buttons which both log you off back to the dialogur screen.Booted into safemode with command promp and with network support and thistime a single OK button appears again logging you off. Howevever I can get into ordinary safe mode.
my dad's Dell Dimension E310 is not recognizing blank CDs! I tried rebooting a few times (my girlfriend's computer had a similar problem, and that fixed it on her computer), but that isn't doing anything. The warranty for this computer expired 2 days ago, so I can't get help from Dell unless I pay them... does anyone know what to do?
I want to back up my data (mostly files and my Outlook pst file) onto a blank CD. But whenver I insert the CD into the drive, it whirs and then stops. And a window pops up (whether I am doing this from the Control Panel or from Windows Explorer), saying "Please insert a disk into drive D" (which I have already done!)This is only happening with a blank CD.
