I need some help figuring out how to reinstall/copy files for my start menu.I lost power last night and now my start menu is missing I have all ready replaced the these files.Every thing else seem to be working fine I have all my icons and can still browse my computer.were is the start menu located in the windows folder.one more thing I think might be important is that all user accounts are having this problem.

View 11 Replies View Relatedhi guys,i'm hoping some kind person could help me with a problem i had last night.I've become very interested in photography so i downloaded Infranview,along with its plug-ins.I don't know what happened or if it was something i did in the install but when it had finished,i found that all the left side of my start menu was blacked out,also,when i hovered on my 'all programmes',nothing showed up In a panic,i uninstalled the Infranview but it still left my problems which in the end,with a lot of seaching,i found system restore and went back to the day before which put right my pc.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI did a control alt del and closed a lot of running processes, including explorer. since then i cant get the start menu back. i cant figure out how to shut down so i just pressed the power button, but even after restarting that way i cant get the start menu back.
In Windows XP, the Windows Explorer application is found under "start/programs/accessories". I clicked on the application listing there and dragged it on to my desktop. There is now an icon on the desktop for it, but it has disappeared from the apps listings in "start/programs/accessories". How can I restore the program listing there?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell that ended up on my pc,I had no antivires protection when it appeared on my computer.I now have macfee antivires protection...when I installed it I ran a complete full scan on my pc,then after that was done I restarted my pc then when logging back on I lost my start menu bar an all of my icons,now trying to restore them back but, can only use my windows task management.Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI lost the My Music and My Pictures icons on the start menu. I moved My Documents and was prompted to move the current items. I said (stupidly) yes. I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.

I went into my "processes running" in the windows task manager and deleted (End Process) what I thought were viruses. I was wrong. I deleted all of my desktop icons and the toolbar/taskbar on the bottom that includes my "start" icon. I can not figure out how to get it back to where it was before I screwed it up. I have tried system restore.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have lost my start menu I also have lost the bottom task bar. In addition the views have all changed on the tool bars. For example, on the internet explorer tool bar, the icons are on top of each other or otherwise unaccessible. Several programs no longer work and I get error messages as follows "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." I hit control-alt-delete, nothing happens.
I went to Housecall and ran a virus scan and nothing showed up. I had previously installed (many months ago) SpyBot S&D. As noted above, this is one of the programs that will not run and I get the error message. I tried to uninstall this program and then reinstall it. After downloading the program, I still got the above error message that the application configuration is incorrect.
I tried to start in safe mode. Although I cannot get to system configuration utility, I was able to get to safe mode by hitting F8 as the computer was starting. I selected safe mode and then selected Windows XP as the operating system. The next screen had the words safe mode in each corner and a Log On window in the middle.
I've recently had some corruption to my c: drive as a result of resizing using Partion Magic 7. I managed to run chkdsk via Recover Console and was then able to boot.But now the Task Bar does not show. Also it thinks there is new hardware. I can run some application via the icon on the Desktop but not others. Does any one know of a way to resolve this? Am I running XP sp2.

View 4 Replies View Relatedusually whenever i run programs the shortcuts would be left on my start menu. so say after running several programs, like for example, adobe audition, divx player and ccleaner, on the start menu would appear the programs which had just been recently run.if i right click the start menu and go to customize, i can select the number or programs to be displayed on my start menu.so yup, usually the recently run programs would display but then it disappears like it emptied itself from the menu.so my question being is, whats up with my start menu and why does the recently run programs list keep disappearing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedFirst the customer told me that all his desktop icons disappeared. I thought maybe he accidentally hid them. He also says that when he goes to google and searches for something, when he clicks on the search results, he is directed somewhere else. Ok, so we know his browser is being hi-jacked. But this I didn't expect. Look at the screen shot below when I remoted into his PC. No icons, no start button. Customer has XP Home Edition. Right-clicking on the desktop does absolutely nothing. I can bring up the task manager and select New Task, but I cannot run explorer.exe. I just get a permissions error. I was able to install Malwarebyte's, but after scanning for 8 seconds, the program just closes. Now I am trying an online scan to see if that works. I can't access My Computer at all. I really can't even run most programs. After Malwarebyte's closes, I cannot open it again. Not even by typing the exact path in the New Task window. I can open IE, but it won't let me access his hard drive or anything. I just keep getting an error about permissions. Obviously not all his permissions are gone since I am able to install software. But his PC is definitely in bad shape. Unfortunately he lives in CA, and I live in NJ, so I have to do this all remotely.

They can only run applications by using the task manager to manually browse to the application and launch. All of the apps work perfectly fine, it's just they have no desktop.I'm sure I am missing something obvious, but this one has me stumped.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've gone through and removed hundreds of viruses and cleaned it up pretty well. However, I can't access the CONTROL PANEL because it is missing from the START menu. I checked the start button properties, and it isn't listed in the customize/advanced menu. It's just not there. I'm fairly certain that I've gotten all the virus and spyware activity off the computer. I've now scanned it with 3 separate programs. I've tried booting into Safe Mode and Also logging on as Administrator (in safe mode), but it won't re-appear. I've even done the cmd: mmc / add/remove snap-in / add "groups" (as directed by another website) but "groups" isn't even listed. Come to think of it, it's not listed in this computer either (xp home).

But the other day I got a whole bunch of abd viruses I think..from where I have no clue. I run Nod32 and it probably missed this ones. So anyway, I noticed I had some kind bad stuff called Vundo trojan. is that correct? So, I managed to remove (I think) that with Spyware doctor.BUT, the problems I had stared before i removed it. I have one account, my own, with admin. rights. BUT the "Shut off" button is missing in my startmenu and I cant start the Windows Task manager, because it has ben blocked by the..administrator? The startup is normal until I log into my account, computer slows down and in the end nothing shows up, no desktop icons and even the task bar at the bottom disappears. However, I can ctrl-alt-del and log out of my account and when I log in a second time, everything is back up and running. Then, I go to start menu and for example I click on my pictures, the computer freezes again and I have to reboot. All my desktop icons are there, though they take longer than normal to load and taskmanager works fine and i have all my navigation menus as well. I am also unable to run msconfig, even in Command Prompt. When i type in msconfig, i get the following message.msconfig is not a recognized command. Another problem that i have been having is that if i click on a window, and taskmanager was infront of it, taskmanager does not move behind my active window. I am running windows XP, on a Presario V2000 with a 60 gig hd, and a 512. i have tried everything to get it to come back, i have booted in safe mode and tried that way, i have also used StartUp Mechanic to disable everything that i do not recognize in hopes that something is blocking the start menu from loading. I am okay with a computer, but the simpler the instructions the better.
View 14 Replies View Relatedi ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools.The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.
