Lost Internet Explorer From Quick Start Menu

No Internet Explorer Icon In The Start Menu
Mar 27, 2009I have a new PC with XP 64 bit/IE 7. I then installed Firefox. There is no icon for IE on the start menu, just the Firefox icon. In all programs, I right clicked on IE to pin to start menu. Now there is an icon there, but I get all the options if you were to right click on IE on your desktop.My work has changed to a new program. Wave to make adjustments to trusted sites and internet properties. Their instructions are to right click on the start menu internet explorer, which gives the options of "browse the internet, internet properties, and remove from this list

Aug 19, 2006I lost the Internet Explorer and Outlook express entries from START, ALL PROGRAMS. Don't know why. System Restore from yesterday could not restore anything.
I also lost these 2 entries from the quick launch bar on the left, beside the START button. Obviously IE is still on the system because I'm here.

May 17, 2005hi guys,i'm hoping some kind person could help me with a problem i had last night.I've become very interested in photography so i downloaded Infranview,along with its plug-ins.I don't know what happened or if it was something i did in the install but when it had finished,i found that all the left side of my start menu was blacked out,also,when i hovered on my 'all programmes',nothing showed up In a panic,i uninstalled the Infranview but it still left my problems which in the end,with a lot of seaching,i found system restore and went back to the day before which put right my pc.

Program Lost From Start / Programs Menu
Feb 24, 2007In Windows XP, the Windows Explorer application is found under "start/programs/accessories". I clicked on the application listing there and dragged it on to my desktop. There is now an icon on the desktop for it, but it has disappeared from the apps listings in "start/programs/accessories". How can I restore the program listing there?

Oct 15, 2007I lost the My Music and My Pictures icons on the start menu. I moved My Documents and was prompted to move the current items. I said (stupidly) yes. I noticed I had 2 music and picture folders in My Documents. I deleted the Folders that had been moved when I reloacated. When I went back to the start menu, My Music and My Pictures were gone. I looked in properties, and the two items were selected. I went to the registry and the entries for music and pictures were gone in UserShellFolders and ShellFolders. I recreated the entries. After all of this, there are still no icons for Music and Pictures on the start menu.

I went into my "processes running" in the windows task manager and deleted (End Process) what I thought were viruses. I was wrong. Feb 17, 2005I have lost my start menu I also have lost the bottom task bar. In addition the views have all changed on the tool bars. For example, on the internet explorer tool bar, the icons are on top of each other or otherwise unaccessible. Several programs no longer work and I get error messages as follows "The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect..." I hit control-alt-delete, nothing happens.
I went to Housecall and ran a virus scan and nothing showed up. I had previously installed (many months ago) SpyBot S&D. As noted above, this is one of the programs that will not run and I get the error message. I tried to uninstall this program and then reinstall it. After downloading the program, I still got the above error message that the application configuration is incorrect.
I tried to start in safe mode. Although I cannot get to system configuration utility, I was able to get to safe mode by hitting F8 as the computer was starting. I selected safe mode and then selected Windows XP as the operating system. The next screen had the words safe mode in each corner and a Log On window in the middle.
Explorer / Internet Explorer Menu Missing
Aug 18, 2005Not sure how that happened or if i have a virus of some sort. I cannot see in IE the file-edit-tools-windows menu at the top of the navagation icons. I have a virus scanner that updates daily, so may be that my grand daughter changed something. How do i restore them back to the way it was?

So I went to the site and downloaded all of the necessary updates, installed, and then went back a second time and did it again and installed SP2. I then received the BSOD when I restarted after SP2. So I started up using F8 to boot into the most recent configuration that worked, and there was no taskbar or start menu. I tried starting up normally, and it started up, but took forever loading (the screen that says loading your settings), and the taskbar is still not there, neither is the start menu.

The start menu programs pop up, but disappear before I can click them. Windows screen flickers at the same time when the start menu items vanish, and also flickers at other times. Fonts on the desktop, once just white, are now showing up white on a black rectangular background - didn't do any theme change. Windows Explorer has been crashing from time to time in the last week, no apparent reason. And the monitors are bleeding. Kidding about that last one, but am expecting it soon.

Dec 9, 2008i ran some pretty complicated malware-removal programs since my PC (on the office network) was showing loads of trojans and other malware. in the order of running, i ran Malwarebytes, MGTools, Combofix with the windows recovery option. Then, on not having found anything substantial, I uninstalled Combofix with the /u optiom and deleted C:Combofix and later, proceeded to delete C:MGTools.The PC allows me to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del log in, and once I hit Return after entering the password, it just shows me the blue background to the desktop - No items, no menus.Same thing happens in safe mode.

When the computer is connected to the internet via a DSL modem the start menu runs extremely slow. When the modem is off it acts normal.
