All of a sudden, the bar (called Taskbar?) with the Start button, Time, and other Quick-Launch icons is on top of the screen and there is no way to move it back to the bottom!I have Windows 2000 Version 5.0.
View 7 RepliesI switched on my PC one day and the quick launch icons on the left of my taskbar had gone. I right-clicked the taskbar and selected "toolbars" and "quick launch" and this brought back the quick launch icons but doubled the size of my task bar and it will not reduce to its normal size unless I remove quick launch from the toolbars menu.I then tried to drag shortcuts from the desktop to the taskbar, which is how I had originally got the quick launch icons I wanted, but they would not attach to the taskbar.I have made no recent changes of any kind.

When I went to Start > Properties > and enabled Show Quick Launch, I got it back with all my icons. The problem is that they are no longer displayed in the order that I want and I can not drag them to change the order. Sometime in the past, I was able to drag them to change their rder. Hi! After running a program called System Mechanic from Iolo technologies I discovered my computer had stopped working properly and kept telling me that files essential to the smooth running of windows had been changed. I did a system restore operation and almost everything went back to normal. The only exception is my desktop icons, and icons on the quick lanch bar. They're appearing inside white squares and not against the desktop wallpaper like they should almost as if the wallpaper has not loaded properly under the
icons
i tried to move firefox (safemode) to my quick launch bar and 2 things were created, a shortcut and something else. i deleted the shortcut but i can delete the other one. heres what it says.

Someone at work deleted my Quick Launch Button which is located at the bottom of the taskbar (also called Show Desktop button).. My quick launch tab is checked so it's not that. How do I get my Quick Launch Button back? I don't know how anyone can function without that Button.. I love that button! I Right Mouse the taskbar.. go to Toolbars and yes that Quick Launch Tab is checked.. they actually removed it and deleted it..

I can't imagine why I don't have this function. When I drag to the quicklaunch bar I don't see the usual black line on the left of the icon.I can drag and drop on the desktop all day. Any suggestion as to what the problem might be? I have never had this problem in eight years I have had a computer.

I have to click the small arrow on quick launch bar( see the first and second attachements with my post). I want to know is there some way that I can see more than just 3 progeammes on this bar without clicking the arrow? The quicklaunch buttons, for some reason, are disproportionately large,though.I know that before they were nice and tidy (before I had to reinstall), so know that it IS possible to have something that takes less space than these do. Is there some separate setting somewhere else for quicklaunch button size that I am missing?

Now, whenever I reboot, the toolbar disappears and I have to right click on the task bar, select toolbars, and select Quick Launch. This put the Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar with the Show Desktop and Internet Explorer icons. I deleted them and now I can't duplicate this action. I can get the Internet Explorer icon back. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have experienced a sudden problem starting programs. The computer boots correctly, and all desktop icons appear correctly. But when I double click a desktop icon, or start a program from the start menu, I get a popup window displaying a list of programs and asking me which program I want to use to start the application. I select the correct program (or browse to the appropriate .exe file), but still the application doesn't start. This includes IE and Windows Messenger. My virus scanner was about the only thing that I could start up, and I did a system scan with Panda Anti-Virus, but it didn't show anything substantial (just some cookies).Using my WinXP set up disk,I've tried to do a repair (I guess reinstallation without reformatting the hard disk), but after I entered the License Key, the computer did a reboot and then stopped. It is stuck on the XP splash screen and won't go any further (I once let it run over night, but it was still frozen on the splash screen). I even tried to repeat the repair process, but that didn't work.Automatic updates did download an update just before this problem started (I think it was the day before the problems began). I don't know what this update was and I'm not sure it was SP3 (system does have SP2 installed).Considering that the computer freezes now when booting up, is there anything that I can do short of reformatting the Hard Drive? I also have another hard drive that I can use to install XP onto. Is there any way that I can rescue the data from the old Hard Drive and transfer to new drive?

My Start Menu sometimes only appears for a split second when clicked and will not stay displayed. Also minimised apps. wont maximise and apps. and short cuts on the desktop wont launch when double left clicked and instead show properties as if they were right clicked, Updated from SP1 to SP 2 as well as all the security updates. Ran Adaware and Spybot to find any unwelcome visitors. Adaware only found one minor issue. Ran Symantec Antivirus which found and quarantined several viruses. Ran WinDoctor which found and said it resolved quite a few issues. This is really a pain as it makes the system virtually unusable except for when it is behaving which is rare
