Works on 98se to XP.Create a new folder of any name in my Documents, now put any shortcut to a program you would like. Drag the folder drom the DOCument folder onto your task bar where your clock is. Now you have a customized quick folder for accessing programs on the fly without the clutter of desktop icons

After running a program called System Mechanic from Iolo technologies I discovered my computer had stopped working properly and kept telling me that files essential to the smooth running of windows had been changed. I did a system restore operation and almost everything went back to normal. The only exception is my desktop icons, and icons on the quick lanch bar. They're appearing inside white squares and not against the desktop wallpaper like they should almost as if the wallpaper has not loaded properly under the

View 7 Replies View RelatedI switched on my PC one day and the quick launch icons on the left of my taskbar had gone. I right-clicked the taskbar and selected "toolbars" and "quick launch" and this brought back the quick launch icons but doubled the size of my task bar and it will not reduce to its normal size unless I remove quick launch from the toolbars menu.I then tried to drag shortcuts from the desktop to the taskbar, which is how I had originally got the quick launch icons I wanted, but they would not attach to the taskbar.I have made no recent changes of any kind.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHave XP Home Edition with all current updates. Do not have toolbars locked. By mistake, moved the whole Quick Launch Taskbar and lost it. When I went to Start > Properties > and enabled Show Quick Launch, I got it back with all my icons. The problem is that they are no longer displayed in the order that I want and I can not drag them to change the order. Sometime in the past, I was able to drag them to change their rder. Again, I do not have the toolbars lock set. I went to my application dataMicrosoftIEQuick Launch and changed the sort order of the folder but it did not change the

View 12 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced my motherboard which because my new one is a different chipset than my old one, required me to repair my windows install. Rather than do that and possibly lose a bunch of stuff in My Documents folder and my extensive Favorites I opted to just do a new install on another partition. So far everything has worked fine but when I tried to get into my old Admin files in my "Documents & Settings" Folder it gave me a red x and said Access Denied.

now whenever i open my pc, my desktop and taskbar and start menu,etc goes away after a few seconds! Now i rely on the task manager..
Several unwanted desktop icons appeared recently (I think they come via Search2000 when IE is used). They won't right-click for deletion, nor will they allow themselves to be drop-dragged to the recycle bin. They don't appear in the desktop icon list when using the desktop cleanup feature.

Now, the message I received goes away when I hit reply Let me do repetitive tasks by returning to the same folder, same view, same place? have to upload photos to some funky website that allows only one photo at a time. Even though the photos are all in sequence in a folder, for each upload I have drill down into the folder, change the view from the default "list" to the "details" view I need, sort that list by "date" and then select my photo to upload. Windows folder view and folder options has proven unreliable at best or useless, reportedly because I have more than 4,000 folders. I don't think I have that many but it never has worked and my tech support guy for my home office can't get it working Let me colorize or change icons for all folders so that when they are open at the bottom of my screen I can readily distinguish them from the email messages that are open

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am getting the (program) "has encountered a problem and needs to close error report with a number of programs on my PC."It started with Outlook (2003) then Sony Media Manager and now Mailwasher Pro. I can use Outlook to send and receive messages OK and the error only appears as Outlook is closing down. My Mailwasher Pro update wont run at all and produces the error report when I try to run it. In the last couple of weeks I have tried to download a number of programs, some install and run OK and some produce the above error report when I try to run them.

This put the Quick Launch toolbar on the Taskbar with the Show Desktop and Internet Explorer icons. I deleted them and now I can't duplicate this action. I can get the Internet Explorer icon back. Put the old HD in a case with a USB connection so that I could retreive my files/programs... but most of them were in folders on the desktop, and the X:/My Documents/User/Desktop folder is empty. (Win Explorer is set to display hidden and system folders) I've checked every location I can think of, and I can't find those folders/files.

I my desktop properties is selected to "Show Desktop Icons", desktop folder is NOT hidden. Since I stated the issue, here are the facts Does not matter on SP. SP2 and SP3 are affected. It follows my profile. I have blown away my profile, recreated it (not copied it) and logged back in. This resolved the issue until I logged back in today July, 6th. Group Policy is on our network. Nobody else but my boss and myself are affected. He seems to feel this was a test about 5 years ago. You can view all desktop icons freely in Windows Explorer under my profile directory. I can setup shortcuts to the missing folders on my desktop and those will NOT dissappear. This issue reaccurs even after an FFR. FDisk, Format, Reinstall, do da do da. PLEASE NOTE***Nothing else in the system has been affected. Only view desktop folders.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have about 8 folders on my destop that are empty. I can delete them but when I reboot the pc they are back on the desktop. I have even tried to delete them with bc wipe. I do have rollback installed it's similar to goback only better.This problem started before installing rollback. No other files do I have trouble deleting. I do have system restore turned on probably do not need to now that rollback is installed.I deleted folders and they are in trash. I emptied the trash no folders inside. Not deleted in safe mode. I restarted and they reappear on the desktop. Rollback was not activated during the restart.I checked the folder permissons and all boxes are checked but they are grayed out.The folder is set as read only and I try to change it and hit apply but they cannot be deleted.
