Can folders have background images like the desktop can?I'm trying to organize some folders to be like the desktop. Anyone know if it's possible?I have Windows XP pro SP2
I haven't a clue what happened but basically today when i turned on the pc i noticed theres like a background color on all the folders on the desktop.Any way to turn this off and make it transparent again?
I want to change my desktop background, but when I go to OPTIONS, the images available are grayed out.? It it totally frozen. I cannot even put a theme in, the icons show up, but nothing else.I used to be able to change my background at will, putting photos I had taken up, but now when I go to those options, the only thing I can do is change the background color as the images (including the BROWSE button) are grayed out. I have tried just about every imaginable combination of modifying themes and choosing backgrounds, but still, the only thing I can do is change the color of the desktop. However, when I go to shut down the computer, the image I previously had selected shows briefly.
My daughter recently saved an interactive desktop of Harry Potter to our pc, we think. Suddenly after saving, the pc automatically changed web fonts, colors, placement of text boxes and some settings. We uninstalled but found the colors and backgrounds of all web pages to be white. Myspace pages allows everything, but no background pics or colors. We installed internet explorer 7 and that fixed the font sizes but not the colors. ANyone know any tricks to try before we backup and reintall windows?
I'd like to know if it's possible to use my own images as a BG for certain folders. For instance, I've made a 'Games' folder, which is where I put shortcuts to games, and would like to use my own image as the BG for that folder. Is it possible? Is there a way to do this?
Why do my thumbnailed folders (with a folder.jpg inside of them) display random images that I never assigned to them? Is there are way to correct this behavior or is this just an XP glitch? Using Tweak UI I increased the amount of folders for XP to store in memory to 10,000 thinking that may solve the problem, but it hasn't. It's especially frustrating since I spent many hours organizing my Music folders so that they display the correct cover art.For example, why does my Radiohead folder, which should display an image of the band (which is in the Radiohead folder as "folder.jpg") assign an image of Cindy Lauper, which is in another folder?
how to change the background wallpaper on fodlers for Windows XP. I know how to do it on Windows ME, but I can't figure out where the hell you can customize your folders so that there's a different background other than the white slate that's already preset for all folders.
My question is why is it when I save a photo in my pictures that is shows up in my desktop images? Start-Control panel-App and themes-Display-click desktop tab.All the images on my computer show up in this box.Why does it do this as I have a bunch in there and would like to remove many of them or stop them from collecting there.
My HD crapped out on me so I bought a new one. My brother gave me a copy of Windows Black for my new OS, so I installed it. Everything was running smooth, (installing drivers, hardware and such) until I DL'ed Steam. I noticed a weird box on my screen. I'd scroll up or down and it would multiply. "Oh great" I thought. Un-installed Steam then re-installed my video card. Back to normal. Re-installed steam, same problem. GRRRRR.Finally gave up on Steam and just started browsing for other software to get. Out of nowhere the boxes show up again, so I know it's not a Steam problem. Maybe a video card problem? Maybe a Windows Black bug? I have no idea, but this is what I see on my desktop.
I hadn't changed my desktop wallpaper for a while and decided it was time for a change. After trying a few different images and changing them (with right click > properties > desktop> browse), I found one I liked and clicked apply. Then, for some reason about an hour later, the desktop wallpaper turned gray after I closed an explorer window. I restarted, but the desktop was still gray. I right clicked > properties. however, when i clicked the desktop tab, The cpu usage went to 100% for about a minute, but then the tab showed up. the weirdest thing is that now it not only shows the default windows choices, but it seems that it additionally has everything in my "My Pictures" folder listed. That is about 5 thousand images. This is probably why it takes so long to load the tab. My computer has never done this before. I want it back the way it was.
A friend has a Compaq laptop running Windows XP. When you power up the system, the Windows XP logo screen comes up and then the desktop background comes up but it stops there. You never get any desktop icons or taskbar so there is no way to navigate. If anyone has any suggestions on how to debug this it would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have two computers, both running XP Home SP 1. On the desktop at home, I use a JPG image as my Desktop Background. On the laptop at school, I can't use a JPG. I have to use a BMP. The BMP file is about 7 times larger than the JPG file. Question: How do I tweak the laptop to let me use a JPG file as a Desktop background?
Desktop preview screen is blank, however, the image does display on the desktop. Background images with bitmap icon will display in preview, but not those with what appears to be a film icon. Some of the regular Windows images, i.e. Azul, Windows XP, etc. have the film icon, and do not display in preview.
On display i have desktop themes and background choices. i imported a picture from my computer, from using the browse function but it imported the whole folder of pictures. how do i remove the pictures it imported into this background box please. this is slowing my dell down to a snails pace on start up and shut down.
I am having difficulty changing my desktop wallpaper. No matter what I do, I cannot put a different picture or wallpaper on the desktop. I have already tried using the right click on the desktop and going into the properties that way. It won't even let me select any of the options for the wallpaper. And I used to be able to go to my photo files and just pick one, right click on it and select the "set as desktop background" option. But now it won't let me change it at all.
only this i can change it to is colors but i see that when i go to shutdown the pc just befor it shuts down i see a quick flash of what i tryd to put on my desktop, so i try to change it and it dosent change but i go to shutdown and i see agen for a sec it pops up with what i tryd to change it to. does anyone know whats going on here?
i went to a website today and downloaded a winxp backcround picture and when i clicked the picture to set as background it set it okay, but it was showing the picture as multiples of small pictures that filled the screen.can some tell me how to make it one whole picture that fills the screen.
I can change the desktop wallpaper background to a personal pic, by using the browse button. no problem, but it won't keep the pic in the list of available backgrounds. it will keep the background i choose until i want to change it, but as soon as i switch, that pic disappears and if i want to change back, i have to use the browse button all over again. running xp home not a major problem, but annoying.if there is a quick fix i can't find it.
i am using windows XP professional and recently my computer's desktop has been having some problems, it was working fine this morning then i turned it on just now and my desktop is blue, i cannot change the background, i cannot unlock my taskbar or see icons in my start menu, i have no clue what could have caused this to happen
I cannot change the desktop background by going to Settings>>Control panel>>Display>>Desktop due to subj. reason. Why is this option blocked & how to acivate it again ?
When I login into Windows XP pro following a normal boot up, within a couple of seconds the top half of my screen cannot be accessed my desktop shrinks about half way down the screen. If I load an application it only opens /maximises in that portion of the screen. However, the actual desktop background remains unchanged!
It very weird because if I login under a different user this does not happen. It seems that my screen is acting as virtual screen?I have checked the settings and nothing seems different.
Because item removed by owner. Each time I try to put a new display background - It deletes it and does the same message as a background. Is this a virus?
One of the best features of Win XP is to use any image from any image folder as your desktop background, wallpaper. For some reason this feature has stopped working and of course I have no idea why. I haven't changed any folder options or made any changes for that matter.
i was working on a computer the other day helping someone "clean it up" and make it run faster. i did all the normal "clean up" stuff, got her back online, pc running much faster, everyone's happy.except for one thing: one of her original complaints was that her desktop background had recently reverted to all RED with this image in the middle that looks something like a biohazard logo. i tried changing the desktop background via the control panel, and it changed momentarily and then reverted back only moments later. I ran avg anti-virus and spybot to sweep her machine of any bugs/viruses (and found quite a few). when i left the red desktop was gone.
I struggle to explain this one. This is a duplicate setup - i have two systems very nearly identical, both HP DC7600's, full-up 4GB RAM, 160GB HD, fairly fresh Windows XP Professional SP3, typical applications: MS Office, Picasa, iTunes, Realplayer, Google Chrome browser, blah blah. Nothing exotic. One of them, after being left with a half dozen tabs open in Chrome, and not much else going on other than AVAST Antivirus running in background, upon checking back in with the Screen Saver "On" [starfield], no password needed, the screen/display freezes on the background image, and nothing else pops up on screen except the mouse cursor.
I am unable to change my desktop background. I had a virus problem and it appears the virus had been removed but when I restart a message appears that I am still infected I scanned with ATT McAfee and it says I am not infected.
