how to change the background wallpaper on fodlers for Windows XP. I know how to do it on Windows ME, but I can't figure out where the hell you can customize
your folders so that there's a different background other than the white slate that's already preset for all folders.
I've got a problem on my buddy's PC. I downloaded a wallpaper from the net. 1024x768. I open it up and right click it to set as background and the background will not change to the new wallpaper. It is like that for any image I try to set as background.
I am trying to figure out how to add changing content to my background. I decided to use the Web option in the customize desktop area of the display settings. I made two test attempts trying different things out to see if it would do what I wanted. I had no trouble and so I went ahead and made my image. Now when I went to add the actual image in it let me, but wouldn't save the changes after I logged off. It works fine while I am still logged in, but as soon as I log off my changes are gone. So I thought that maybe there was a limit on how many items I could have in the list at any given time. I had no need for my test objects, so I deleted them from the display control panel. Now for the surprise - Those changes don't save either. After I log off the test objects are restored. I now thought that maybe it was some kind of safety feature so you don't remove it by mistake. I went through and found where the registry keys for it were located and deleted all of them. This only effected my current session - After I logged off, the test ones are put back and my actual one is removed, from both the control panel and the registry.
Can folders have background images like the desktop can?I'm trying to organize some folders to be like the desktop. Anyone know if it's possible?I have Windows XP pro SP2

We have several folders with sub folders and files that we like to copy from one PCWinxp to another PCVista. Is there a way to copy these folders without changing the modifications dates? Meaning to preserve all the modifications dates on all the folders, subfolders and files.
Does anyone know how I can change all the icons of windows!! Like search , run, folders, control panel, and control panel options??? I have some icons that I want windows to use!! How can I do that???
I am trying to move files from my old XP computer (to be called OLD from now on) to my new Vista computer (to be called NEW) over my network. In some folders, there are some files that don't have the correct permissions for me to move them. I get this message on NEW when I try to copy them over: Destination Folder Access Denied You need permission to perform this action
The folder that these files are in on OLD has the correct permissions set, but for some reason some, not all, of the files within it have not inherited the correct permissions level. I can't figure out how to change the permissions level of these individual files. When I right-click on the problematic files in OLD, I do not see a Security tab.
I went into my computer and changed my screen appearance, I think I clicked Windows custom, when I restarted mycomputer all the icons appeared on my screen but when I click on the start button no programmes appear. So I cannot go into system restore to put my computer back to it's orginal setting. I can access email and the internet but when I get web pages up I am no longer able to do anything.
My Laptop has a problem with my xp desktop.I am unable to customize the display, all the icons now default to the left side of the screen. No matter what I do to control this, I can set out the icons in the positions I have historically had them and they will stay until I attempt to open a File or connect to a website then everything flies back to the left side. I have checked and rechecked all the settings and also compared them to my other computer but still I cannot control this problem.
This is really pissing me off... I'm trying to customize my color scheme and all that because I'm bored, but for some reason I can't change the color of the active window's title bar. I'm in Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced, but for the life of me I can't find the selection to change what I want. I've messed around with Active Title Bar, Active Window Border, Application Background, Inactive Title Bar, Window, and others but none of them will change the color of my active window's title bar (for example, the Firefox title bar that says "Tech Support Guy Forums - Post New Thread - Mozilla Firefox" is all blue bcause I'm on the "Default (blue)" Color scheme right now). I don't see a way to deactivate the default color scheme, I can only change it to olive green or silver, or customize through the advanced button, which doesn't seem to work.
I have been asked to partition the hard disk in the following ways; the hard disk should be partitioned such a way that, the user profiles need to be a separate partion not in os installed partition say 'C: drive'; but in another partition say user(E: ); for this i figured out that need to automate this process someway in a form of text file, which will be used while installation; please somebody lead/instruct me regarding this; i am just now into system administration; and the OS of systems can be windows XP,2000,2003,98
Notice considerable lag when doing the following simple tasks: use the dialog boxes to browse folders (save as, etc) is slow ,double clicking my computer or any folders is slow, right click and create new folders is slow, clicking START button and going to programs is slow
when i opened up my favourites folder in explorer some of my folders have disappeared my daughter has been on the computer but swears she has not even opened favourites, can anyone tell me why this has happened and if it is possible to retrieve my folders.I have tried system restore but it did not help
I'm running a server and i was wondering if/how i can run it as a background process, the console screen is really annoying when minimised to the taskbar.
I appear to have folders and subfolders in my Favourites list which i cannot get rid of, ive tried right hand clicking but no options are available, ive also tried organise favourites Also, i have an unwanted toolbar that pops up at the bottom of my screen with things like Travel, Casino etc which i think the Favourites may be linked in some way i have no idea how to find the source on my computer to delete it. i regularly delete my cookies.
but i got a music folder with close to 100 seperate artist folders inside....all of which contain mp3's from various artists. (About 1200 mp3 files all inside these 100 folders...all inside 1 folder if that makes any sense)I'm thinking about moving all those mp3's outside there folders so that i have just one continuous stream of mp3's. Basically i want just my mp3's inside the main folder without their individual artist folder.
My daughter's PC has the XP Home SP2, but I want to change it to XP Pro, but the disk I have is only XP Pro SP1, when I inserted it and tried to install, I got a warning message. Any problems with doing what I wish (after Pro install, I would then download/install the SP2 patch for XP Pro). How do I get around this current challenge?
I just bout a new IBM/Lenovo X40. It has winxp pro and internet explorer 6.0. The default homepage is msn.com. Everytime I change it to something else it will change right back to msn.com when I reboot.
I have a Hewlett Packard Notebook that runs on XP, and since I was the only one who used it for a long time I only had one admin user account and access was allowed for the whole computer. However, my roommate has been tinkering with my laptop every now and again because his is terrible. i don't have a problem with this, but he changes settings on my account. I made him a new one, but I would also like to change all the access to programs so that what I do on my account is only visible there, and vice versa with his.
Running XP Pro SP 2. The time is behind by about 30 minutes. If I change it manually, within a minute or so it reverts back. I DO NOT have "Use a network time server" checked. (Attempting to use a time server always fails anyway.)Where is the system getting this time from and why is it constantly changing back?
Okay.I've done this before but so save my life, can't remember or find where it was that I did it. I want to change the (classic?) log on screen to the XP screen using the little icons with users names. Like I said, I've done this before but cannot remember where to change it.
We have a user that went to grant someone access to a folder on the network. They did this from there desktop, not the server, and now no one can access the folder. Not even an administrator login. I'm assuming they got the warning about changing permissions remotley, but he swears he didn't see anything like that. Now we have a couple of users that have icons that don't work because they're coming from that folder.Any way to change those permissions back? I know the permissions default to something.
Does anyone know how to changing that default choice? I want an administrator account and a public account. In the public account I don't want any right-clicking, changing desktop icons, things like this. I also want all of the things left on the desktop (downloads, shortcuts, etc.) to be gone when they log out. I did look at group policy editor but I don't like it. So I put System Policy Editor on it from a Windows Server 2000 CD.I have a .POL file made already and can't get it to work. Any websites on this would also be great.
I have to keep reseting my computer time every so often. It's worse when I turn on the computer. It's always ahead by about thirty minutes, I have to keep setting it back. It never stays put. (CMOS battery?) Anything I can do to fix it? Windows 2000
I've had XP 64 installed for a about 10 days now and everything is working fine. I didn't have any issues with drivers or applications. The default install and updates seem to use two versions of IE (64 and 32). I've swapped all my icons to choose the 32 bit version since there is no flash support for 64 bit browsers at this time. My problem is that I get a lot of links inside emails and when I click on those it always uses the 64 bit version. I've tried to change the default browser option through control panel but it only offers the option of IE and won't let me select which IE. I also have IE 32 set to check to make sure it's the default browser. I've done some Google searches but I must not be asking the right question because I can's find much on IE 64.
