Running XP Pro SP 2. The time is behind by about 30 minutes. If I change it manually, within a minute or so it reverts back. I DO NOT have "Use a network time server" checked. (Attempting to use a time server always fails anyway.)Where is the system getting this time from and why is it constantly changing back?

I've been using the same old grey colour since Win95 and would like a different colour. What's the best way of going about it? I've just installed the XP Zune theme from Microsoft from here: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078 and it looks pretty good but does it use up more memory or CPU time than the classic theme?

I have a broadband internet connection and some times i get this error and some other times it takes very long to load a site. Also, my IIS settings keep changing almost every time i start/restart my PC and that its a pain because I work on it very much.I am very concerned about it. I read in this forum that you advised some other member to run the program (Hijackthis) and to post the results in this forum.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy computer started acting up, and I couldn't play any games.WoW mainly -(Yes I play it) and Cod4, So finally I managed to fix it myself and this is what I did. Went into device manager, disabled then enabled my GFX card, Then I have to go into display properties and change 3D acceleration to 0 then back to full, Also when I do this it corrects my resolution.
However, EVERY time I power down my computer, I have to do this which get's very annoying
Why does the time and date keep changing. I have done (I think) everything right manually and thro internet time to correct this. changes to proper time then next time I log on my computer everything is wrong again.

View 7 Replies View RelatedEach time I turn on my computer and as it is boots up it will delay for a time with a line that reads something like Automatic IDE Configuration and then a message that my date and time are incorrect. The date goes back to Nov. 2003. Once I correct the date, time and year things seem to perform ok.

Specifically, DST will start three weeks earlier (2:00 A.M. on the second Sunday in March) and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November). Thus, Microsoft is releasing an update to address changes that have or will take place in several countries. The update will be delivered automatically to Windows XP SP2 users starting December 12th (or can be downloaded now by clicking here) and will be included in Windows Vista.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi do scans quite a bit and delete alot of things everytime. there is the msn spyware thing that keeps coming back after i delete that, as well as many other things i dont even know about. some of my devices just shut them selves down from time to time (mouse, scanner/printer, and otherthings i cant remember but the key board is fine) and after a few seconds turn back on. and the whole thing just crashes sometimes. i did that scan thing but im not sure if i did it right.

My mouse/pointer is STILL freezing after about 5 minutes of being logged on. I am using the touchpad mouse that is on my laptop. I have ran an updated version of Adaware6, Spybot, CWShredder & AVG Anti-Virus. I also have Spyware Blaster Protection enabled. When I click on the time on the bottom right hand corner, and under the Internet Time tab, I can't syncronize the time using both time.windows.com and nist.gov servers. When I use the Windows server, it gives this error message: "An error occured while Windows was syncronizing with time.windows.com. The time sample was rejected because: The peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum."

I would think, from what I understand of preemptive multitaking, that worse case, Windows should just slow down, but now freeze like I see it do. It is like it gets taken over by one program or stuck on one task? I am not jsut referring to this computer, I have seen this on about every Windows XP machine I have used in the past few years.

However, my roommate has been tinkering with my laptop every now and again because his is terrible. i don't have a problem with this, but he changes settings on my account. I made him a new one, but I would also like to change all the access to programs so that what I do on my account is only visible there, and vice versa with his.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a user that went to grant someone access to a folder on the network. They did this from there desktop, not the server, and now no one can access the folder. Not even an administrator login. I'm assuming they got the warning about changing permissions remotley, but he swears he didn't see anything like that. Now we have a couple of users that have icons that don't work because they're coming from that folder.Any way to change those permissions back? I know the permissions default to something.

In the public account I don't want any right-clicking, changing desktop icons, things like this. I also want all of the things left on the desktop (downloads, shortcuts, etc.) to be gone when they log out. I did look at group policy editor but I don't like it. So I put System Policy Editor on it from a Windows Server 2000 CD.I have a .POL file made already and can't get it to work. Any websites on this would also be great.
I was changing my administrators password through CMD.but when i confirm what i want it to be i get a access denied message.
is there a way to bypass that or another way to change it in the CMD?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had XP 64 installed for a about 10 days now and everything is working fine. I didn't have any issues with drivers or applications. The default install and updates seem to use two versions of IE (64 and 32). I've swapped all my icons to choose the 32 bit version since there is no flash support for 64 bit browsers at this time. My problem is that I get a lot of links inside emails and when I click on those it always uses the 64 bit version. I've tried to change the default browser option through control panel but it only offers the option of IE and won't let me select which IE. I also have IE 32 set to check to make sure it's the default browser. I've done some Google searches but I must not be asking the right question because I can's find much on IE 64.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe other day, I moved some files+folders outside of a folder just to organize things. I tried to put them back inside and I kept getting the "Cannot move file, it's being used.." error. I was pretty sure I wasn't using any of the files so I checked the permissions to find that under the security tab, inside the "Group or user name" was completely empty without any user names. I fixed it by adding my user name. This has happened before. A few months ago, I couldn't access any folders and files in this one particular folder without getting the "Acess denied" message. I found out that all my files and folders within that folder had no user names under the security tab which was a pain because I have over 100s of files in there and the only sure way to change the permission is to do them almost one by one.
I was wondering if there were any particular reason why it's doing this. I'm pretty sure that this computer is virus free and I almost never turn off the "Use simple file sharing" under the folder tool section. I've only played around with the permissions once over 5 months ago and I haven't touched it since. Also, is there a way to change every permission within one folder so that I won't have to do them manually one by one?
I just upgraded to a 300GB hard drive from a 250, which I will use as a backup drive. However, when I set it up, the primary boot partition got set up as D:. I have 5 partitions on this drive. The others were also mislabeled, but I could change them with the Computer Management tool. There is no C drive on this system. I want to make what is now D become C.The original also had 5 partitions. All I wanted to do is duplicate the old drive to the new one. Somehow, the boot partition became D and I can't change it from within Windows. Is there a way to do that? I have created the UBD for Windows using Bart's PE, so I can boot the machine independently of using the hard drive. If I can use that, is there a tool there or a command line program I can use to change it?

However after installation, it still shows the old drive as the boot drive and the new drive as the slave.I have set the jumpers to "master" on the new drive and slave on the old drive. Is there any way to change this? I dont know what else to do siince the jumpers are set correctly. running winXP home with Dell Pentium 4.
